Zev Taublieb, the College Soccer Guy, advises recruits not to give up after hearing a school recruited your position. Injuries and redshirting create openings. Interpret "keep us updated" as a no. Follow up politely 4 to 5 times, then move on and pursue other offers.

Should I continue to pursue a school when I know they've already recruited other players in my position? I'm the College Soccer Guy. I help you play college soccer. And the short answer is yes. You don't know if that coach recruited those other players and one of them is suffering from an injury and they're not going to be playing, they're going to be redshirting. If that player's being me, you think they're a center back, but the coach sees them as a striker. So the truth is, even if you hear in the grapevine that they've already recruited somebody, or they recruited somebody who you think you're better than, you still have to go through the process until they properly tell you no. You Now, how they tell you no can vary. So if they say to you, hey, we're really interested in you, but you're not our top choice, keep us updated, that means it's dead. I've never seen it be flipped ever before. That's their polite way of saying, hey, look, we like you, but not enough, and we're moving on. Now, if it's your dream school and you wanna reach out to them 3 months later and go, hey, you asked me to stay updated, has anything changed? By all means, you can go for it. But if you stick around and go, well, they did say stay in touch and they did say I'm part of their top 3, you know, if I was you, I would move on, say thank you so much for your honesty, look forward to keep you updated, and then move on and start talking contacting other schools. The truth is too, you're not gonna be able to get that school's interest back again until you go get offers from somebody else anyways. So you have to move on at that point. But if you know they've recruited your position, you should still continue to talk to them. You should still send them your information until they tell you no. And you need to follow up 4 times is when I finally say that's enough. But after 4 to 5 times, you wanna make sure you're very polite in every follow-up you do. If you want more help, give me a call, link's in the bio. Bye.
