A coach advises student-athletes to skip most recruiting questionnaires and instead email 60 to 80 schools directly about camps. Questionnaires mainly get you on email lists, not recruited. Only fill one out for your top school if you want to show interest.

Should you be filling out the recruiting questionnaires for college coaches? The answer is it varies per person, so if you call me, I can tell you exactly what you should do. However, there is a broad rule, and the broad rule is no, do not fill out the questionnaires. Only time you should fill it out is if it's a top school of yours. So if you have a list of top 10 schools, definitely fill out the questionnaire for all of those schools. The coaches basically will know if you filled it out, which in and of itself is not going to get you recruited, but it tells them you're interested, right? You went out of your way to fill out their questionnaire. All the questionnaire traditionally is— and it does vary per school— like Washington in. And if you fill out theirs, it's a really big deal and you should do that. For other schools, it's just an email subscription, and basically all you're doing is subscribing to when they have a camp, which could be a great idea to find out which and when their camps are. My model is a little bit different. We send out a mass email, not to every school, but to a top list of about 60 to 80 schools. And by emailing them, they just email us back with when their camps are, which is the better way in my opinion than going through filling out every questionnaire knowing that they're not really going to recruit you because you filled it out. But filling it out can be really helpful for your top school because it shows the school you have interest. It's even something genuine you can say when you email them. You can say, I filled out your questionnaire. It shows the coaches, okay, this person really cares and now they're on our email system. But it's very rare that you fill it out and then they go through it and then email you and recruit you. I have not ever seen that happen. As a matter of fact, I'm not saying it doesn't, but I have not seen that happen. If you would like more help, call me. Links in the bio, and I'll talk soon.
