The College Soccer Guy compares recruiting to dating. Email lots of schools to stand out, respond to coaches immediately and professionally, and show genuine interest in their program. Coaches talk to each other constantly, so a good impression now pays off later.

Here are 3 ways college soccer recruiting is exactly like dating. I'm The College Soccer Guy and I help you play college soccer in under 60 seconds. Everybody wants what they can't have. So if coaches are getting interested in you and they're not able to get a hold of you or they hear about other coaches wanting you and then they can't get in touch with you because you're so busy, then of course they want you. Now of course if nobody's talking to you, that doesn't count. But if they hear about you, then everybody wants the cool girl or the cool kid in the room. So you really want to email many schools because word gets out. It's like a high school, this college soccer It's a small world. There's not really that many people coaching. It may seem like there's a lot of teams, but really in the grand scheme of things, they all know each other, they all played with each other. Half of my teammates are college coaches, half of their teammates are college coaches, so it's a really small world. So you want people to like you. This is partially why sending that mass email is so important, because it starts to get people to know who you are, and then when you say, "Hey, Ithaca likes me," even though it's a school maybe you don't want to go to, all of a sudden they're like, "I know Ithaca, the assistant coach and I went to our UAFA B license together. They like you. Oh, I'm going to ask this coach about you." on and on and on. Number 2, if you don't text right, you're screwed. They will not like you. They will not think you're cool. You will not be able to flirt with them, and then they'll think you're a nice guy and put you in the friend zone, or they'll say, "Hey, you're just not cool enough. I'm not attracted to you." Does it sound like I've been dating? I've never did. No, I would never. Anyways, the point is that in this world, unlike the dating world, to be fair, I am an expert. So when and how you talk to these coaches and when you respond and how quickly you respond and what you say is really important. Unlike dating, you don't really play a game where you wait to text them. You send a message right away, really professional, emotionally, and you say, "Hey, I am here and I want to show that I'm here for you and I care about you and your school." Number 3 is show them you care. No matter what happens in your dating life one day, showing somebody that you care about them is the first way to get their attention. So even if they end up rejecting you and saying, "I don't want to marry you," aka getting recruited, they still may say, "You know, you're a great person. I have a friend who likes you. Why don't you come hang out with our friend group one day?" And then all of a sudden you're dating somebody else. It's the exact same thing in the college recruiting world. If you want more help and you want to know exactly what to say to these coaches as if you had a dating coach, I'm the Call Soccer Guy, and that's what I do now. So comment, call, and I will help you as best I can.
