High school soccer players should build a YouTube highlight reel and email coaches with links to their clips. Instagram and Twitter help, but YouTube is essential. Follow coaches' personal accounts, tag them politely, and send direct messages when you can.
Is social media even important if you want to play college soccer? I think it's a bunch of bogus, according to some Facebook pages. So the short answer is about 30% of the students I work with get DMs and follows and likes on Instagram. So there is no doubt, it is a fact that Instagram and Twitter are really important. Now, if you said to me, is it the most important? The answer is no. YouTube is really important if you count that as social media, because your videos do need to be on YouTube. But when people say social media, they're talking about Instagram and Twitter typically. And the coaches are more and more becoming my age, and my age are coaches that use social media. So they want you to follow them, they want you to tag them. You can absolutely follow their personal pages. You can even DM their personal pages. If they're private, you're not gonna be able to message them. That's on purpose. If they're public, you have every right to message them. Now you wanna do so politely. You also wanna follow them, and you wanna tell them via email that you have followed them. You also want to send them via email your Instagram links to your videos because it's typically, if you do it correctly, a different angle of you. Do not send them your highlight video in the correct— incorrect horizontal format. Make sure it's vertical and zoomed in because that is what Instagram is for and the coaches can't see you otherwise and they don't want to watch your video. But you should totally be following schools and be sending emails or messages via Instagram. Now you've heard me use the word emails very often. If you want to know the most important thing The answer is emails is the most important, along with a good video, which is on YouTube. If you would like tips on how to make your best video, comment the word highlight. If you would like a list of colleges in your state, comment the word— the initials of your state, as well as the word colleges, and I will send you a list of every school in your state. If you would like more help from me personally, comment call, and we can schedule a call with you and your parents. You can only do one of those per video, by the way. Thanks so much, bye.
