Alt Talk Guy, how do I know what schools to pick? I just don't even know what to pick. Can you help me? Absolutely, we can help you pick your list of schools. Well, obviously the first one is what do you want to major in? Let's pretend you're not sure yet, just given your age, but you know you probably don't want to study math and science, so you're more into the communications business type of field. Is that fair?
Yeah, that's fair. That's definitely me. I definitely don't like math or science, like, so that's not going to happen.
So we know statistically if you don't love math or science, you're not going to all of a sudden love math and science later in life. So now we know we're going to the more the liberal arts, Communication, sports, and business. Now, good news is there's a lot of soccer teams that have those majors, so that really allows for many more options to play college soccer.
Okay, that's amazing, but like, you know, academics is really important to me and my family. Like, I don't want to sacrifice that for soccer.
Good. We don't want you to sacrifice that either. If at any point you are sacrificing your academics for soccer, don't talk to me because I don't want to help you. Academics will always come first, but there's a problem. When academics come first, there are often less schools available to you because those same top academic schools are very competitive. Every single kid wants to go to a top academic school. Who doesn't want to go to a top academic school? Yeah, that's true. They're like, yeah, I want to go to like the top school. So like that makes it pretty difficult, doesn't it? It does make it very difficult. And one of the ways we can get around it and make sure you still get the interest you need is we need to make more video. You need to be playing for a high-level club team. And we got to talk about what you're going to say to those coaches because they are not just interviewing you as players, especially those schools. They want to know about you as a person.
Okay, so like, what's the biggest difference I should do in order to play at one of my top academic D3 schools?
Biggest thing you can do is go to their ID camp. You have to go as early as possible. If you want to go to NYU, Chicago, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and, uh, I already said NYU, uh, Hamilton, you've got to go to their camps. Haverford, you got to go to their camps. And their camps are happening— the best times to go are 8th, 9th, 10th grade in the spring and in the fall. You can go in the summer as well, but they're really crowded, so you want to go then. Wow, that was really helpful. Like, who are you? I'm the College Talk Guy. If you want more help, comment "call" and we can
