A high school soccer player needs a highlight video with a 10-12 second intro and one simple slide showing name, GPA, club level, and graduation year. Coaches need to see you in person 4-6 times, especially for defensive positions. Attend camps at your dream schools early, even as a freshman or sophomore, to get on their radar before junior year lists lock in.

These are the best 3 strategies to get recruited to play college soccer, and the last one is really important in regards to ID camps. Number 1 is when you're making your highlight video, add a self-interview of you speaking for about 10 to 12 seconds while you put in the intro page something very simple— just your name, your GPA, your club level, and your grad year. Don't put any accolades, don't put a resume, don't put anything else. Remember, the Every email you have should have that information. This is to grab the coach's attention, and sometimes when you put a bunch of information there, the most important information or the stuff that stands out for you gets missed. Number 2, the myth that you will get recruited if you're really good, you need to get that out of your brain. Now it is true, if you are so good and you go to an ID camp and perform so well, why would a coach not want somebody that's really, really good? Of course they would want them, but odds are you're really, really good, but maybe you're not gonna dribble past every player 15 times over. Maybe you're not Messi and you're a defensive center mid, or you're a right back, or you're a center back. You're not going to just stand out at the camp 10 times better than everybody else. Maybe you're 1 time better, maybe you're 2 times better, but you must know, you must go to them, and you have to be seen 4 to 6 times in person if you want to play Division 1 soccer. And number 3, as I said, saving this best one kind of for last, is when it comes to camps, I want you to prioritize genuine invitations. But if you don't get any genuine invitations and you're a freshman or a sophomore, go to your dream school. Go They'll find out what the coach is like. You think it's your dream school, maybe the coach is a prick. Maybe the coach will love you even though you're not playing at a high enough club level. But if they find out about you young, then you have a chance. If you have to get found out by junior year, then the coaches will say, you're number 25 on our radar. Maybe you'll move up, maybe you won't, but they already have their top list. And you don't want to be told it's too late.
