The College Soccer Guy breaks down two essential videos for soccer recruits: a main highlight reel with interviews and references, and an "every touch" video from 2-5 games showing how you perform against top opponents. Coaches use these to evaluate talent when they can't see you play live.

This is the best highlight video I have ever seen. I'm the College Soccer Guy. I help you play college soccer. And I wonder why it's so great. Oh, did I help him make it? Maybe. But let me tell you why it's just so amazing. So this particular student has a traditional highlight video, what we would call their main highlight video, which has their self-interview, coach's interview, their references at the end, and has their best moments leading up to that point. That's called your main highlight video. And you have to have one of those first. If you don't have one of those, chances of you getting recruited drops down to like basically 0%. Now, in saying that, the next level video is what we call an every touch video. So you're going to take your best game, ideally 2 to 5 of them, and you're going to cut every single time you've touched the ball throughout the game. I will show you an example. So this particular student is a right back being recruited by Division III schools at top academic levels. So right now what's so amazing is this player, per my advice, wants to play at the highest level of college soccer at a top academic school. They have really good grades, so they're looking at the NESCAC S schools. Now this player in one of the games played against a Division I commit. Now the coaches are not going to know this just from watching this player. In fact, if you were to ask a bunch of colleges, they're not going to go, oh yeah, yeah, I know that UCLA kid. Like Virginia and UCLA are recruiting some of the same kids because it's such a high level, but also not some of the same kids because there's so many students. So by watching this guy run, the Division III NESCAC schools are not going to know it's a UCLA commit, especially if it hasn't been announced yet. So I told this player, circle yourself and circle the UCLA commit so we could watch you play against them. Now when college coaches are recruiting, the biggest issue that comes is seeing you in a competitive environment. So if you go to an ID camp, they get to see you up close and personal, see your personality, your technique, but you might be playing against somebody that sucks. And so they're not really able to recruit you alone on an ID camp at a big Division I school. Division II and Division III, sometimes. Then the next dilemma is they go, okay, we saw that ID camp, we wanna see you again. You wanted your showcase. Either you're not playing MLS Next or ECNL, so there you don't— they don't go to your showcases, or Boys Elite Academy, Girls Elite Academy, or they miss your game because they're busy and they're not going to the same event you are, and things happen. But then if you have video against the college player, which is why if you are D2 on trial for a D2 team or an NAI team, that video is also really helpful, then they go, well, I just watched this kid play against the UCLA commit, let's watch them together. And you guys will know, okay, good touch by the kid, let's watch them 1v1 defend, freaking wins it, right? And that particular kid is aiming for Division D3-level schools. So the coaches go, well, gosh darn, he's almost equally as athletic, he looks just as big as him, look at them run together, he's defending him 1v1, this kid's a Division 1 UCLA player. And remember, this kid doesn't want to necessarily play at UCLA, they just want to play at a very good top academic D3 school. So then you see the moments of them defending, and then it goes into the rest of his every touches because he's not playing only against the UCLA player, obviously. But against— while you're watching him, you're going, well, that was Not just against some stranger, it was against a UCLA commit. This is what makes this video one of the best. If you can do this in your videos, A+ to you. If you want more help playing college soccer, give me a ring. Links in the bio. Talk to you soon.
