A college recruiting advisor breaks down a real recruiting email from a Division III coach at Bard College. The coach explains his timeline: video submissions in December, showcase invites, campus visits, and formal offers typically in summer, though sometimes earlier in spring.
When will your school make a decision on when you're going to get recruited? We're gonna go through an email today from one of my students of them receiving an email in April, but then getting an offer in April of their junior year. So this is how it reads. Dear name, thank you for the update and sending along your latest touches. You have some exciting opportunities ahead of you. I wanna preface this with, we sent an amazing highlight video where he circled not only himself, but other players he played against that also got committed to top Division I schools, including one case in UCLA. Are you thinking of coming east and attending South Kent for senior year? This was referring to a high school academy that this college coach also wanted him to be a part of. But he said, as the coach of Bard, in terms of our 2024 timeline, we generally begin making offers in the summer once a prospect does visit campus. After speaking with you and seeing you play, I would definitely be comfortable offering you a roster spot in our 2024 class. This email was received on April 28th, of 2023 as a junior going into a senior year. So had this student said, yep, I'm ready to commit, that's when the offers were coming in, which means the discussion for this coach— and I'm going to take you through our past emails with them, you can see here, here are follow-ups. We started talking to them in May on how to respond to them, and we were discussing if it's the right school for this student. In saying that, what's really important is this conversation with this school started back in December with lots of video, lots of showcase invites to lead to this offer. And this is a top academic Division III school. So when you guys are asking me, when are they going to make an offer, it can come as soon as the spring. If you want more help, give me a call.
