Division I soccer coaches recruit through three channels: ID camps where they watch you train, high-level showcases where showing up 2-3 times matters, and references that account for roughly 90% of the decision. Coaches call your references to verify character and ability.

Division I college soccer coaches recruit you in the following 3 ways. Number 1 is camps. Number 2 are showcases. Number 3 are references. When it comes to camps, you want to get genuine invitations and then go to their camps. Mass ID camps can be good. Individual ID camps tend to be better. But camps are a big part of the process. Coaches need to see you in person, not only in a tournament environment, but also up close so they can see your training habits. Showcases are probably the best way to get recruited. If you go perform at a high-level showcase and the coach gets to see you perform at the high-level showcase 2 to 3 times, an offer is very likely, assuming they like the way you play. References is probably 90% of this process. It may not be 90% of the way you get recruited, but it's 90% of the process, meaning 90% of the time coaches are going to call a reference and see if they like you and have good things to say about you in order to recruit you.
