Parents of soccer recruits make three costly mistakes: contacting coaches pretending to be their kid, overestimating ID camp performance, and failing to send video footage. Coaches spot fake emails immediately and compare players across all camps. What matters now is continuous game and training video on your phone, sent directly to coaches.
Chapters
Parents, stop doing these 3 things if you want your son or daughter to have the chance of playing college soccer. Never ever reach out on behalf of your kids. Not even if you're writing emails from their own account. Unless you're going to really write like a child, they will know the difference and they will be pissed off. Stop thinking that your kid was better than everyone else at the ID camp. That is irrelevant. The college coaches are not comparing your child to other kids at the camp. They're comparing your child to other kids they are also recruiting. Some of them are at that camp, some of them will be at the camp tomorrow, and some of them will never go to the camp because they're playing at a showcase the next day. So if you think, well, my kid did so great at the camp, how come they're not being picked? That is irrelevant and frankly very naive as an adult. What you need to understand is they're recruiting so many people. So when you go to these camps, especially the Division I schools, and you say my kid was the best one there, just know that doesn't really matter. Your life of watching your son or daughter for fun is over. Everything now is about recording. Record, record, record. Everything you get to see is now through your iPhone. If you comment the word phone, I can send you a list of questions that your son or daughter is going to get now that you understand the process as a parent.
