A coach explains how to spot college scouts at the Surf Cup tournament and approach them respectfully. Bring a pamphlet with a QR code to your highlight video, hand it over during their breaks between fields, and never interrupt warm-ups. Parents should track which coaches show up and only talk to scouts when they're alone.

How do you know where the college scouts are at Surf Cup? Figure out who the college scouts are. The first thing is you want to see if they've got really small chairs, cuz they tend to often have to carry their chairs, so they pick small chairs. They end up at the corner of the field so they don't get too bothered by parents, and they almost always wear their gear. They really, really didn't want to be seen— of course their pictures are online— they could wear a mask. So my point is, mom and dads, we don't really want you going up to them cuz they're working. But at the same time, if they're walking to the bathroom or they're going to grab lunch, you can say hi. And this is why I want all college potential players to have a pamphlet. I want you to carry the pamphlet. And if you say to a coach, hey, I know you're really busy, I just want to hand this to you, not during your warm-up, of course, but if you're going to the bathroom, when you're walking from field to field, or you're going to your car and you run into a coach, you should be able to go, hey coach, here's my pamphlet. It has a QR code with your highlight video. I hope you have a great day, and send them a note. If you see anyone walking with a clipboard, coach, See those guys over there sitting down? Those two, red and in black? Coaches. For mom and dad, what you do is you kind of wait and see where they walk to and where they go, and then maybe you can say hi to them when they're on their own and they're not to be bothered. The kids, you guys can do the same thing, and everyone should take notes of who is coming to your games. If you want more help, comment, call, and we can schedule a call with you and your parents. Tune in for part 2.5 so we can actually watch some players play some soccer.
