The College Soccer Guy explains how to know if a coach is genuinely interested before attending an ID camp. Starting recruitment late cuts your chances at top programs, he warns, pointing to a real D1 coach email that only recruits juniors and a few seniors. Begin early for the best shot.

How do you know if you should go to a college soccer ID camp? I'm the College Soccer Guy. I help you play college soccer. I know it's hard to know which one to go to, and so what we focus on is what we call genuine interest. But then you get that genuine interest, and how do you know if you should really take up on it? So let me show you how it's done. This was a couple years ago, but I want to give you the example. The coach says the following: a big Division 1 school, we are primarily looking at 2024s, which would have been juniors at the time of this email. We're still recruiting 2 spots for the 2023, aka seniors, including a midfielder if we find the right fit. We hope to see you at our camp. On the 26th. So this coach is saying, look, you're late, but if you're a baller and we see something we've never seen before, come. So then this student basically has to go, is it worth it for me to go to this camp knowing they're pretty much done with my class? And this is not a place you want to be. This student started quite late with me, and this is a situation we were in. Now, this student, in large part because of all the work he did with my help, did go on to play college soccer at a school he wanted. But the point is, you know, he doesn't want this answer. And this is what happens when you start late, is this. This is where you get to, and you have come to the means of that. And the school he's going to, he quite likes, but it's not as good of a soccer school as this one because he started the recruiting process on the later side. So because of that, you need to be very mindful of starting on the earlier side so that way you— this will still happen even if you start early because that's just how soccer goes, but you want to give yourself the best chance. That's all we can do for you. If you want more help, give me a call, links in the bio. We never directly connect you to any coaches. It's against the NCAA. I'm not going to call a coach even if I think you're the best player ever and go, you gotta take this guy. I'm going to teach you how to get recruited, and therefore give you the best chance of getting the most eyeballs on you to give the best chance to get recruited by the school you really want to go to. So if you want more help, give me a call, link's in bio. Talk soon.
