A coach breaks down what college recruiters actually look for in goalkeepers, using one player's footage to show how hand work, footwork, and opponent quality matter. High school soccer alone isn't enough; you need ID camps, showcases, and highlight videos that let recruiters see what you can do.
Is high school soccer good enough in order to play college soccer? The answer is playing high school soccer definitely can lead to college soccer. They need to still go to an ID camp. They still need to go to a showcase. They still have to make highlight videos. Now, if you're playing high school soccer, there's a good chance that you can make a lot of good video. Now, like, when I'm watching this goalkeeper, for example, I'm saying to myself, do I think he's the level to play college soccer? Right hand, right kick. And it's a looping ball, my immediate instinct is, you know, if you want to play called soccer, you have to use your left hand to kick with your right at the highest level. But athletically, this guy is really good. So, you know, I need to learn more about him. It's not enough. Also, the team he's playing against— he might be involved again here. Let's watch this guy. Good feet. Good clearance. But the opponents he's playing against, I've been watching the game. I go, yes, he might have some good highlights, but his opponents aren't as high level. So as a coach, I don't say he's not good enough. I say, I and you see more of you. Here's a shot, strike, what a save! What an amazing save! And so right there, you know, I made a harsh judgment saying, look, the punt wasn't college level, but then he made that save and that was an amazing save. So this is why as goalkeepers you need to have training video, highlight video. We need to see you so many times to make a decision about you.
