College soccer recruiting isn't just about talent. The speaker says you need connections: ask your current coach to be a reference, reach out through private coaches or friends who know college coaches, or contact him directly for help.

Are you a go-getter? Do you think you have to do it all on your own? Do you say to yourself, "I can do it on my own. I don't need anybody's help." Well, I want to change your mind. I think it's so important to use any connections that you might have. Playing college soccer is no different than getting a job. It's all about who you know and being in the right place at the right time. How do we increase your chances of being in the right place at the right time? Knowing the right people. If your coach knows somebody, that may know the coach of the team you want to go to, please use your coach as reference. And when I say use your coach as reference, I'm not saying tell your coach to call them. Your coach is busy. He's got 25 other players to deal with. Encourage the college coach to call your coach, and you can say that in an email. Sometimes you might have a private coach, or maybe you have a friend of a friend that knows the coach. Use that connection as well. Anything that makes you stand out amongst your peers. I want to help you play college soccer. Please reach out if I can help you.
