In this instructional monologue, the speaker (College Soccer Guy) advises prospective college soccer players on how to optimize their communication with college coaches during a showcase. The guidance covers three main areas: (1) crafting a showcase email that includes a fully typed schedule (opponents, field, time) instead of just a link, and adding jersey colors to aid coach identification; (2) creating a personal showcase pamphlet that features a QR code to highlight videos, contact info, and preferred school types, which the player should hand directly to coaches; and (3) etiquette for in‑person coach interactions, such as politely introducing oneself, requesting a handshake, and asking for a brief meeting. The speaker emphasizes making coaches' lives easier to increase the likelihood they attend the game and review the player's material. The tone is conversational yet instructional, with an enthusiastic, supportive sentiment encouraging players to go the extra mile.

I'm sending out my college showcase email and I just put in the link of my schedule and I also made sure that I told all the coaches that I'm gonna be there and I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do because it's the college showcase. I'm following up with everybody. Future college soccer player, did you say you sent the link of your schedule? Yeah, I sent the link, you know, so that way they could find my field and know which one I am. Like, duh, aren't you supposed to be an expert? That is great, but you know, there is some better way to make it easier for the college coaches to get through your emails and then more likely to come to your game and even more likely to read your email. What do you mean? I'm doing perfect. I'm doing Exactly what you probably told me to do, which is email them beforehand. Yes, but I want you to go a little bit deeper this time because I really want them to come to your game. Okay, what else do I put in the college showcase before email template? Before a college showcase, yes, putting your link in seems like the best thing, but the reality is coaches then have to click on it, then they have to make a note, or they have to then print it, and sometimes it can just be easier if you lay it out for them. So instead, I want you to put exactly what your link has, your opponents, your field, your time, everything, but just type it out in the email so that way they can quickly either take a picture of it with their phone, print it out, or make a note of it right there, as opposed to having to click another link and then it's kind of bobbled and then they have to look for your team name and then they're not really sure which one is yours and now you've just made their life more difficult. We want to make these coaches' lives as easy as possible because we really ultimately just want them to watch soccer. We don't want communication to get in the way of them not recruiting. Okay, I did that. Like, I put even my number. Like, do I— should I put my jersey color? Like, is that weird? I actually recommend everybody to put in their 2 jersey or 3 jersey colors that they might wear because often the parents will come and hand us a pamphlet and say, hey, here is our team today, and it doesn't say what color they're in. And then I don't really know which team is theirs. And then if I came at halftime, then I don't know if they switched sides. So it's really helpful actually if you give us your possible team colors, because if you're blue and yellow, then I know that if I'm looking at the game and the other team is in red, then you're in yellow, then I know your team is yellow or white or blue or black. So I do recommend adding in your jersey color. There's also one other thing that I want you to do, and it's a little bit more work, and I really think you should do it. More work? Oh my gosh, I'm shooting future college soccer player, stay focused. Okay, now I also want you to make what's called a college showcase pamphlet. So in this pamphlet, yes, the mom and dads and the managers hand out something on behalf of the entire team, but I also want you to make your own personal one. On your own personal one, I want you to put the QR code of your highlight video, your contact information, as well as a little bit more information about what types of schools you're interested in. I then want you to politely hand this to the coaches. Do not have mom and dad do it. It has to come from you. And if you see them at the field, you want to politely say to coach, hi coach, here's a college— here's my schedule for this weekend. I'm really looking forward to seeing you. We exchange emails. Have a good day. Better yet, in that showcase template that you email them out, I want you to ask them, may I have permission to shake your hand? Because then you might be able to organize a meeting at the showcase, which would be amazing. Thank you, College Soccer Guy. Wow, helping future college soccer players day by day.
