A prospective soccer player sent 20 generic emails to college coaches and got nothing back. The problem: no personalization, no coach's name, no specific question. Coaches respond when you ask about their needs, like whether they're recruiting your position.
Hey, Coach, I just sent out like 20 emails and no one's responded. Let me guess. Are you using only generic sentences in every single one? And are you not even saying, Dear Coach, and not even putting their name in the email? No, Coach, I would, I would never do something like that. I know you always talk about to write something genuine and to make sure you say to your coach that my grammar is really good. I'm obviously doing those things. I really genuinely, I really did do those things, but I'm still not getting any responses. Okay, let me, let me read this email you have right here. Excuse me one second. Okay, I see the problem. You're not putting a question, especially in the very first email you're sending. Whenever you send an email at the beginning of a relationship, this is like the first initial email, you have to ask a question. Are they looking for your position? What's their timeline for the class of X? If you ask for feedback on your video, they're really not going to respond to you, so it has to be regarding the recruiting process. Oh, that's an interesting thought. I never thought about that. Thanks, coach. How do I learn more about this? Oh, I don't know, book a call with the Cold Talker, right? and I can talk to you and your parents, comment, call, and we can help you guys hopefully play college soccer if you are the level. Talk soon.
