A parent's aggressive emails and rude confrontations with a coach cost their kid a Division I scholarship opportunity. The same questions asked politely by the player directly might have worked. Respect and letting the athlete lead matters in recruiting.

This is the worst parent story I have to tell you that ruined this player's opportunity to play Division 1. So the mom was sending all the emails for the kid. The mom went up to the coach at a showcase in a really rude way explaining what he thought should be different in their playing style. And at first it kind of is endearing, right, because they're really monitoring that coach's team, but then it becomes really obnoxious. However, if almost the player had said all the same things it wouldn't have been that bad at all. Like, had the player gone up to the parent, or rather the coach, and said, I'd be really curious if you guys played a 3-5-2 against this team, if it would have worked, the coach would be like, whoa, you watched my game and you know that much? I'm a little concerned that you're questioning me. Probably not the brightest move ever, but I actually kind of like that you thought about it. Versus from a parent, that's a terrible idea.
