A benchwarmer who became a Division I soccer recruit shares what worked: posting eight highlight videos yearly starting in eighth grade, climbing to elite club teams by junior year, and messaging coaches at least four times each before moving on.

From benchwarmer on JV to a full Division I scholarship, here are the 3 things that changed everything. Number 1 was video. I had about 8 different videos per year starting in 8th grade. Number 2, the club level. Every single year I tried out for the better level club team starting in 8th grade, and I didn't make it until I was a junior to the highest level. Number 3 was I followed up, and I followed up a lot. I did not stop the follow-up process until email number 4, in which case I either decided I no longer wanted that school or I could no longer spend time on that school and I was going to look elsewhere. But I followed up a minimum of 4 times. If you comment the word ECNL or MLS Next, I will send you a list of events that you need to go to if you want to play Division I soccer.
