A college coach is more likely to respond if you ask whether they're recruiting a specific position for your class, rather than asking them to confirm they watched your video. Coaches often skip video review unless you commit to attending their camp.

What are the best questions to ask college coaches to get them to respond to your email, whether it's a follow-up or it's the first one? There's a lot of different ones, but one of the ones I want to show you today is what happens when you send an email and then the coach responds with, "Hey, I'd like you to come to our camp." Initially, what we'd like to say to them is, "Look, did you actually watch my video? And if you did watch my video, are you actually interested?" That's what we all want to say because then we can actually get a gauge if they're actually interested in us. The problem is a lot of the time coaches just won't respond to that message, even though they really should. Like, it would be very reasonable, it's a very reasonable question, and you know, it would be reasonable for the coach to go, "Yes, I did watch your video, and because I saw your video, I'm inviting you to camp." The problem is these coaches get so many emails so often. So because of that, often when you ask that question, they just won't respond. Except this school actually responded when we asked that question. So initially we sent out the mass email and they responded with a generic email saying, you know, would you like, come to our camp, blah blah blah. So we responded with, can you please confirm with me you have seen my video and genuinely are interested? If you are, I will happily attend the camp. Now this question often does not work. The reason we did it for this situation with this student is this is a coach that we know is a lovely human being because of I know them And I thought, look, this coach will respond if they're very interested in you. And the coach did this: that is such a valid question and totally fair to ask. I have watched your film and I think you have great size, your distribution looks really solid essentially, and think you break things up defensively. I love your ability to assist and create goal-scoring opportunities. Definitely something we look for. If it is tougher to judge— it was tougher to judge the talent, uh, you're going up against and overall speed, but I think that's where we would like to evaluate in person. So obviously this is incredibly genuine and you should totally go to their camp assuming this is the school that she wants, which she does in this case. And this is amazing and the coach would respond like this, but most coaches will not do this. Most coaches just won't respond. So a better question to ask is usually this: are you looking for a blank, enter position, for the class of blank? And then they're much more likely to respond with yes, we are looking for that position. And if they do respond, it's hard to know if they watched your video, but at least you know they're looking for your position. And the truth is, a lot of times the coach is like, look, I'm not going to watch your video because if you're not willing to come to camp, then I'm not going to recruit you regardless. Because if I can't see you in person at my camp, I'm not going to recruit you. So why am I going to look at your video? I've seen your bio, I saw your subject line. You play Easton, you play MLS Next, you play Easton RL. You know, maybe you are the level, so come to camp. Or maybe you're not the level, but if I tell you you're not the level, then you won't come to camp and you won't have any chance of being seen. But it varies, so you have to do this strategically with each school. So what we do is for certain schools, we change that template depending on your situation. That way we can get the best response. So sometimes I'll use the question that she got a great response to, and sometimes I'll use a different question. And those are our weapons, and those weapons are really important. And then of course, every touch feels okay. If you want more help, give me a call. Link in bio. Talk to you soon. Bye.
