A recruiting roadmap for a high-school soccer player: film a self-interview and highlight video, email coaches before a game against the Wolves, attend IMG Showcase and Elite Soccer ID Camp, and accept D1 rejections as proof you're reaching the right level.
Chapters
they are going to these camps, the Michigan State, Michigan. So you need to follow the pre-ID camp email and make sure we send that out. We do need to film a self-interview and fix his main video. So that's the obvious stuff. Then he has a, there's an interesting one. He has a game he's playing in, in Michigan against another MLS team called Wolves where a lot of coaches are coming to watch. Treat this like a showcase. So what this means is send a mass email to every school we think is coming and every school on his list. And the email would read something like this, which is a little different. Dear Coach, genuine, if you have something, but then you'd say, I believe you may know about our game against da da da, told you may be in attendance. Would it be possible to briefly say hello after the game? Now here's the thing, you're gonna send this email to the D1s and the D3s. The D1s will respond with, we can't talk to you. Let that happen and tell the family like, it's okay, it's okay that the D1s say no. Now that means they know who we are, they had to respond, and they watched your— like, they know your content. So it's okay to, to, to act that way now. But you're still gonna email them, and you're gonna also email this, email this to schools we know are not coming. Too complicated to say, hey, you're all the way in California, would you want to fly to this game? Because they're not gonna do that. So I believe you may know about our game against so-and-so, which we said we may, we don't know, and "and I was told you may be in attendance." Maybe, I don't know if they will be. "Would it be possible," and let the coach in California say, "I'm not gonna be at the game, but please let us know more," because there's gonna be a lot of coaches there, and that's why we phrase it like this. So that's a weird one. So that's the email, and then you'll do the normal stuff. Then game, that's the game I was talking about. Then he's going to an IMG showcase. Then you'll do the showcase email. So in terms of the mass email for this family, treat this game like the mass email. So send this to all of his top schools, as opposed to just the mass email, "I'm wondering if I can come to your camp." Now the other question they were asking is what camp should they go to? So these are the camps you're gonna send them to. The Elite Soccer ID Camp is coming to Indiana, but right now it's only in SoCal. This is a good camp, but it's gonna be in Indiana. So just say, just tell 'em it's not announced yet, but keep an eye on it. The next one is Masters for sure. 60 for sure. In the Midwest, there's the Dartmouth. For them, they could do the Harvard Clinic, which is usually in August. I would say like these are the best ones, but they could do that one. And then otherwise it's dream D1 schools, go. And if we get genuine interest, which we're gonna work on.
