Is social media even important if you wanna play college soccer? I think it's a bunch of bogus according to some Facebook pages. So the short answer is about 30% of the students I work with get DMs and follows and likes on Instagram. So there is no doubt, it is a fact that Instagram and Twitter are really important. Now, if you said to me, is it the most important? The answer is no. YouTube is really important if you count that as social media 'cause your videos do need to be on YouTube. But when people say social media, they're talking about Instagram and Twitter typically. And the coaches are more and more becoming my age, and my age are coaches that use social media. So they want you to follow them, they want you to tag them. You can absolutely follow their personal pages, you can even DM their personal pages. If they're private, you're not gonna be able to message them. That's on purpose. If they're public, you have every right to message them. Now you wanna do so politely. You also wanna follow them, and you wanna tell them via email that you have followed them. You also want to send them via email your Instagram links to your videos, because it's typically, if you do it correctly, a different angle of you. Do not send them your highlight video in the correct— incorrect horizontal format. Make sure it's vertical and zoomed in, because that is what Instagram is for, and the coaches can't see you otherwise, and they don't want to watch your video. But you should totally be following schools and be sending emails or messages via Instagram. Now, you've heard me use the word emails very often.
