Zev Taublieb breaks down four coach phrases that mean they're not actually interested: "We'll have a spot waiting," invitations to ID camps, refusing to introduce you to current players, and generic requests for highlight videos. These signal they're waiting for better talent or using you as a walk-on.

If a college coach says any of these 4 things, then run. We'll have a spot waiting for you. Just keep waiting. Translation: they're waiting on better players. Come as a walk-on. We'll talk about scholarship later. That's a huge red flag. There's not even really any walk-ons anymore. That ship has sailed. Thanks for email. Do you mind if you come to our ID camp? There's a red flag. There's no genuine interest. It means they don't actually want you. The coach won't introduce you to any current players. That means the environment is toxic and it is a bad place to go to. "Keep us updated with your highlight video and send us your schedule." This is probably the most common email of all the emails I just went over. The translation basically means, we know nothing about you, keep emailing us, keep updating us. If you get this email, you need to go to their ID camp or you need to send more video until they get to a point where they compliment what they see in the video, then it becomes a real genuine great email. Comment the word genuine if you wanna see what genuine emails look like.
