Start contacting college coaches in junior year, when most top recruits commit. Learning the process early gives you an edge even if you're not yet elite, but agencies pushing younger players are usually just trying to make money.

When should I be starting the recruiting process? You know, I always hear these different things. When should I start? So you should probably start your junior year. Junior year is a good time to start, typically. Junior year, okay, like, but when do most of the top players— if I want to go to Stanford or UCLA, when do most of those kids commit? Yeah, well, most of those kids commit their junior year. Some of them, you're their senior year as well. So, you know, you can start your year around then. But I see all these other kids, they're starting earlier than me. Should I be worried about them? No, all those people are starting too soon. You know, you don't want to start too soon. You're not that good. You know, wait till you're really good, and then once you're really good, that's when you send your video out and send your camps out, etc. Okay, so you're saying I should wait till my junior year in order to start the recruiting process? Don't make me repeat myself. I do these meetings with you guys once every 2 years, and you know, this is what I'm telling you. You don't have to worry about it, but until then— this is what I often hear when I hear about your guys' club college nights and you have your club college recruiter. You don't have to start till junior. That's why these college soccer recruiting agencies drive me nuts. You want to start the process as soon as you can. Now, for every school it's different. Some coaches are done earlier, some coaches are not done till senior year. Would you rather show up to the Apple Store on time and be in the back of the line and not— and out on an iPhone, or would you rather show up a little bit early when the doors are locked and you're a little bit early? It doesn't cost you any more money, it doesn't hurt you in any way. All you've done is you've gotten the process started. From my personal perspective, as somebody who wants to educate you, I personally, with the model that I have pricing-wise, don't make— it doesn't make a difference to me when you start financially. What makes a difference is learning the process as soon as you can, because the sooner you learn it, the more often you can apply it. So if you want more help, give me a call. Links above.
