A coach walks student-athletes through ranking colleges by campus vibe, academics, facilities, coach personality, and location. One Division III soccer player with two ACL tears went from interested in Randolph-Macon to getting official visit offers from Knox and Dickinson by sending a "top-choice" email that showed genuine interest and reduced coach uncertainty about fit.

I want to show you the best way to organize your schools so you can pick the right school for you. I also want to say that we just had a student who's got an official visit and they're going to Knox and they're very excited and I'm excited for them. Maybe you've not heard of Knox. It's not one of those big name schools, but it's a Division III school that's very good. This student had 2 ACL tears, had absolutely nothing, started working with me, and now they actually have like multiple visit opportunities to visit schools where the coaches are asking them to. In Division III, it's not technically an official visit, but it's— we're just going to call it that for simplicity. So they have multiple official visit offers, and this is one of them, and they're very excited. And this is how we organized his list of schools because he had so many schools interested in him. But first of all, we put it like this: we rank the campus, the academics, the athletic facilities, the program competitiveness, meaning how have they done in the past few years, coach's personality, which is usually found out through the phone call, coach's interest in you, so like how interested are they, the location, how many people go to the school, and then I wanted to add for you guys that this student is also about to add is the camp ID, camp date, and oopsie, date, and the application deadline because obviously we want to make sure that you guys apply on time. So I cannot spell. So, he has a bunch of schools here, and then he ranked them. So this is number 9, he should've put them in order, he will later. There's number 10, and there's number 2, and so on and so forth. So all these schools have had phone calls with him, and/or want him to come visit, and/or maybe wanna see him at an ID camp, and he's ranked at number 1, et cetera. And this is what I want you guys to do with yours once you have a big list. These are some other schools we're gonna reach out to for him. And yes, we have ranked one I put there, Dickinson, top choice. The reason is this. Right now, this student's number 1 choice when we first started the process was Randolph-Macon. And Randolph-Macon, as we've gone through the process, dropped down now to like number 6. In saying that, we have so much interest with this student because we've been very particular. Like, this student is a Division III soccer player. We're not trying to play at UCLA, which has allowed us to really use our time wisely because we haven't wasted any of it. We've been direct, and we actually have emailed some Division I schools asking directly for feedback on the video, not even to be recruited, and they've given us really good feedback, which we've then been able to leverage to our DIII schools, which are realistic. So to say that Dickinson is his top choice. In order to gain the attention of Dickinson, who have not been able to so far, now what we're gonna say is, I have X amount of official visits, I even have an offer, I have X amount of phone calls, I haven't been able to reach you, but you are my top school. Now that school is more likely to then respond going, oh, sorry, we didn't get back to you. You have a lot of interest, you like us, and schools want to know you like them. Because when they know you like them, They don't have to figure out if you're going to like them, which often is half of the recruiting process for these coaches to see if you'd even like the school. By you saying you're my top choice, which you cannot do for every school, you have to be genuine about like what your top choice is. So when you know your top choice, you can use the language. You're my top school. I have other offers here, but I'm applying to your school like no matter what. I want to play soccer at your school. Here's my information. Then they're much more likely to look at it. If you want help playing college soccer, give me a call. Links in the bio, and I'll talk to you soon.
