ID camps help soccer recruits get exposure, but strategic ones work better. Target camps where coaches already know you or where you've earned an invite through social media outreach and showcases. Elite schools like MIT run invitation-only camps for their top academic-athletic prospects.
Is going to an ID camp cold turkey with no genuine interest a good idea? The short answer is yes, it is a good idea, because if you don't go, the coaches are not gonna see you. On the flip side, there's a better way to go about it than just going cold. If you have the unlimited plethora of money, the more camps you go to ultimately is the more chances you have to get recruited. But since we don't have unlimited money, and also you could go to as many camps as you want, and if they don't know you before you go, you may not get recruited at all, You want to go to where you have genuine interest. Now to get that genuine interest, it takes social media, it takes emails, it takes follow-up, it takes showcases to get what we call a genuine invite. You also have to keep in mind some schools like MIT have private ID camps only where they have to suggest to a certain group of kids that they'd really like them to come to their invitation-only ID camp. Those are limited ID camps, meaning they're not gonna just have everybody come, they're just gonna pick the kids they think are the best so that way they can theoretically recruit the best from that camp and go on to recruit them as they wish. MIT is one school that sometimes has this. They don't always, and other schools have this as well. Most do not have this concept, but some do, and it's specifically for the top academic schools.
