A high school soccer player preparing for college recruiting calls should research the school and coach first, then ask three types of questions: academic, campus, and soccer-specific. So the first thing I want you to do is you need to go research the school. Watch them play, look at the tour, look how many people go to the school, make sure they have your major. Then I need you to look up the coaches. Look up information about them. You should know about them. It's like getting ready for a job interview. You don't want to go in not knowing anything about them, especially if you can create a connection and say, hey, I know somebody you know. That's really important. You probably would have already done that in the email prior to the phone call, but it's an important point. In regards to asking questions about the coach, it should go into categories. You should have academic, preparations, you should have campus preparations, and then you should have soccer preparation questions. Then the next piece is you need to have 3 questions ready to ask the coach about their life. How did they get to the school? What position did they play growing up? When you ask personal questions, it goes a really long way with these coaches. These coaches are not just looking at you as soccer players. In fact, if you're getting on a phone call, it means they already quite like you, and that's not their concern anymore. Their concern is, do I like you as a human? Could you fit in my culture? And one of the best ways to show you're a good human being is to just ask personal questions about them and their lives. Do you have kids, family? You know, what made you coach here? Why do you like coaching here? What makes this school different to other schools? They'll be— they'll think you're an adult, and that makes you like a captain. And captain-level people are what they want. If you want more help playing college soccer, give me a call. Link's in the bio. Talk soon.
