High school soccer players should attend 6 to 7 ID camps, not just Division I schools, and contact coaches before arriving. Email first, then text if you have their number. Stay after sessions to talk to staff and follow up immediately after the camp ends.
Chapters
The dos and don'ts of college ID camps. Do not go only to the Division I schools. Try not to go to an ID camp unless you've had some genuine interest from that school prior to. You can skip that one, but it is a good one if you can get genuine interest beforehand. Do not forget to follow up after the ID camp. We had a student recently, they went to the Holy Cross camp. They're like, I don't really know if they like me or not. Never heard anything for a week or two. I said, did you follow up? They were like, I forgot. I said, let's follow up. They followed up and then they were like, we actually quite liked you. We were busy. Thanks for reaching out again. And then they took the next step, which was going to be a pre-read and etc., etc. Now for the dos of an ID camp. Do try and stay after the ID camp until you can talk to them. That is great. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't, but at least try. Do follow up with them after ID camp, obviously. Do email them before the ID camp. Yes, you should. I get a lot of questions out of my DMs. Please email them before the ID camp. If you see their phone number in the email that they sent you, please do text them. If you're not sure what to say to these coaches, that varies per person, and I can't give you that answer unless I know who you are. So in that case, give me a call and then I can help you. Okay, those are the do's and don'ts of college ID camps. I will also talk to you soon. Just kidding, I want to also add that you should decipher between a big ID camp and a small ID camp. It's not as quite as simple as don't go to these and do go to these. Because it varies based off the genuine interest you receive. However, I can almost always say if you only go to like a UCLA ID camp and you only go to that one, chances that UCLA are going to recruit you is unlikely. So don't only go to theirs. I'm not saying you don't go to theirs because it's a great camp. There's other coaches there as well and they can teach you a lot of things. I'm actually on UCLA's campus right now. But if you only go to one ID camp, the chance of you playing at that one school is unlikely. So please go to multiple ID camps. If you're a junior right now this year, you're gonna have to go to 6 to maybe even 7 ID camps to get the best chance of playing college soccer, which is an enormous amount. So it's better if you can contact them beforehand before the ID camps because then you'll know which ones to prioritize. Okay, that's for real now. I'm done. Call me if you need help.
