Where should you be in your recruiting process if you're a senior? This gentleman right here is telling me that he's got some very good news for me. He just came up to me randomly. Let's see what he's got to say. All right, man, tell me your name.
My name is Kayvon.
Kayvon. And Kayvon, right now, where are you playing club soccer?
Right now I'm playing in ECRL.
ECRL. And how long you been following The College Soccer Guy for?
Following you?
Yeah.
Like a cool, like, 7 months. I know I may be like a rookie, but like, you know, my bad.
And I've heard you're going to tell me some some good news. Before you do, yeah, could you tell me if the stuff I've put out has been helpful to you?
Yeah, so basically, um, it first started— I think like the one of the first videos I saw on my For You page, uh, with you was like, you know, like one way to get offers and whatnot interest is, you know, emailing the school themselves, right? So, um, I've been like shooting out emails and stuff. Um, I think I shot like 50, 60 in Division 3, and then like I know— I kind of know myself, like I know Division 1 probably isn't the place for me, and Division 2 I wasn't really interested in. So I thought I think I'd say like 50 a day for like 4 or 5 days. So like we're talking, I don't know, 200, 250 emails. So, um, I, I got a few responses, few interests, um, went out to visit some, went out and, you know, some had some major interest in me. And then I ended up getting— do you want to get to that part yet?
Let's get to in a second. I want to hear one more thing. What's your GPA?
3.98.
Awesome. And what, you go to high school at Buckley? Yeah, Buckley. You know Eddie Manella? Eddie Manella? Yeah, that's my boy. You know Eddie? Eddie and I—
shout out Eddie. Shout out Eddie.
Eddie and I grew up playing together many moons ago.
Hey Eddie, I love you, but you're shorter than me.
And what position do you play? You said right back? Okay, now tell me the good news.
All right, so we got an offer from, uh, Kenyon College, great academic school, Colorado College, uh, Division III, and then, um, there's one who I'm not gonna say the name of because like the coach ended up not really liking me. Something happened. So those two are like, um, my narrowing down options, but I've pretty much shown a lot of my interest towards Kenyon.
So, and Kenyon's a great academic school. So you did it. If you were to give advice to other kids who want to get offers besides following me, what do you think they should do? What was the big game changer for you?
First, follow you.
Second, shoot your shot.
You know, like, there's always an opportunity. Always, always, always.
And You were telling us shoot your shot. What else?
Shoot your shot. Um, you know, I guess keep your head up because like you never really know what these colleges are going to say in the end. So you might think, oh, they're not interested at first. Turns out, you know, they're the ones who are going to be following you afterwards. Like the game switches like this. That's kind of what I figured out. But hey, I wouldn't know any of that, any about this without you. So like, thank you.
Thank you very much for saying that. Means a lot to me. I make all those videos. Always come up to me. I'm really excited. I'll be able to watch you then.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah.
