A soccer coach who attended 30 ID camps explains why showing up in person beats sending highlight videos. Juniors should hit three camps: one Division III, one Division I, one Massachusetts regional. Seniors need real invitations first, not cold applications.

you should go to the camp because the chance of them seeing you to showcase, the chance of them watching all your videos that you send, and you do have to send 4 to 6 videos a year, you know, it's unlikely. But getting seen at the camp, if they think you're good and they know your backstory, then you have a much more chance of getting recruited. In my own case, I went to 30 ID camps. 30. Okay, that's freaking insane, probably a record. And the reason I went to so many was because I didn't know what the heck I was doing. I didn't know the process. But going to those 30 camps, I got a ton of interest because I was good And I was playing JV soccer as a junior in high school, and they would ask me, you know, what club team do you play for? And I was not playing for the highest level club teams at the time. And they'd be like, yeah, but we've seen you at the camp 3 times. We think you're good. Don't care about your club coach. That's why camps are so important. Which is then to say, the option really is, as a junior, you need genuine invitations. So in 8th to 10th grade, I would get genuine invitations to D3 schools, and you should go to 1 D3, 1 D1, and 1 Mass camp. So there's your 3 camps for the juniors. And seniors, you got to go to genuine invites only or dream schools only. And if you go into Division 1 camps cold, you pretty much— you've missed the boat already. You cannot be going to those cold. Even if you're almost next to UCLA, you have to go with genuine interest beforehand, which comes through emailing and video. If you want more help, give me a call. Links in the bio. Talk soon.
