College Soccer Guy tells freshman players to email Division III schools early before Division I and II programs get involved, make a one-minute highlight reel plus every-touch videos showing movement and decisions, and send outreach to 60 to 100 schools to get noticed.

If you are a freshman and you want to play college soccer, here are 3 things you need to do, saving the best one for last, and doing it all under 60 seconds because I'm the College Soccer Guy and I help you play college soccer. Number 1, you need to start emailing Division III schools in a really aggressive way. I'm assuming you're a good soccer player. If you're a really good soccer player, the Division III schools want to talk to you because it's the only time of year, at least for the next year and a half or so, where they don't have to deal with the Division II and Division I schools. Number 2, you need a 1-minute highlight video, and then you need to start making every-touch videos, especially if you're a midfielder. If you're a striker or a winger, you can kind of get away with highlight videos for a little bit longer, but if you're a defender or or a center midfielder or a defensive midfielder, you're going to need every-touch videos, 'cause there's no way you're gonna be able to show how great you are by just highlights, 'cause highlights are just kicking the ball in the goal or great passes. You need to show yourself dictating the game or show us your movement when you don't have the ball. Number 3, send an email to about 60 to 100 schools. I know that's a lot of schools, but you gotta send quite a few emails at the beginning of this process, 'cause it kinda gets you jump-started. And the analogy I give my students is right now you're a boat, you're really fast, you're really strong, which means you're capable of many things, but you're stuck on the beach and nobody freaking knows about you. So if you want more help, comment, call, and I can get your boat into the bloody ocean if I think you're good to level.
