Zev Taublieb explains how to tell if a college soccer coach is genuinely interested: they write you a personal message, not an automated one. Build real interest by sending video updates over months and attending showcases. By senior year, you can ask directly about recruitment, though coaches rarely give clear answers right away.
Zev, what does a genuine invite even look like? I mean, a genuine invite to camp, you keep talking about it, what does it mean?
Oh, you want to know what it means?
Let me tell you. So if you get a genuine response of any kind, whether it's about camp or not about camp, about a past showcase, about any emails you've sent, if it's genuine, meaning the coach actually wrote it themselves, not a robot, that is genuine. Now you're not really going to get out of them how badly they want you, and that's just not realistic because they don't know that answer. But getting a genuine invitation That is possible.
For one of my students here, Coach Pascal was saying to him, I really enjoyed watching your highlights. I'm looking forward to watching your game next week. Please continue to keep me posted with your summer plans so we can track your development.
Now, this was not in response to coming to their ID camp. It was about showcases, and this is a genuine response. So when a coach like this says, I'm looking forward to tracking your development, or I saw you at a showcase. Those are the types of schools you want to go to their ID camps because the coaches need to know you as a person and as a player. And you know that ID camps can be a hit or miss, which is why this genuine invitation is so important. And you do not have to just get the genuine invitation before an ID camp. Every time you send them a message for a showcase, you're hoping to get a genuine feedback. Constant genuine feedback. And then the ultimate goal, by the time you're going into your senior year, You want to be able to have said to yourself, I've sent them and updated them for months with so much video. I'm finally going to ask them the question. Do you want to recruit me for blank class? Are you looking for my position? You cannot ask that question until you have had months of conversation with the coach. They've seen you play in person. They've seen lots of video of you. And that's when you can finally ask that million-dollar question. Until you've done all that, they're not going to have the answer for you. And the good news is, let's say you finally get to ask that, which is exactly what we all want. It's what I want I want you to ask, then you can get an answer. And the answer might be no, but great, then move on and let's find somebody else. The difficult part in this recruiting process is getting the answer. Getting the answer is such a pain in the buttocks. That's because these coaches are super busy, so this is why you have to follow up with showcase, follow up with ID camps, pick ID camps, email them again, more videos, send them an email. And that is what I help you with in order to understand the nuance of this process. And all of that can be done now because I've been doing this for a long time. I've created a program specifically for each step of this process. There's a free masterclass in the link in the bio that explains each step of this, so please go watch the free masterclass if you want to play college soccer.
