When a college soccer coach says they'll recommend you to other coaches, find out which ones and contact them directly, mentioning the recommender's name. Starting your recruiting push in 8th or 10th grade beats waiting for late recommendations that might never come through.
Chapters
If a college coach tells you they're going to recommend you to other people, what does that mean? Sorry about my voice, I lost it playing soccer the other day. One of our students just got this text, and this school is telling the student, we really like you, but we may not be able to see you at the showcase in time, and therefore we may not be able to recruit you, but we know you're a good player, so we actually recommended you to other coaches. Now you might be thinking, why would they help other schools? Well, first of all, the coaches at X school may want to go to another school one day and coach, so they know if they help other coaches, they'll be in line for a new job one day. Two, the coaches are often very good people, so they actually do want to help you and help you find the place that you could find as a home. Now the question is, what do you do with something like this? So the first thing we're going to have to do is figure out who else that he was recommended to. Then we're going to follow up with them and say, hey, I was recommended by X coach. Given the circumstance of my situation, I just want to politely follow up and see where I stand in the recruiting process, or a version of that. Now, saying we're coming from a recommendation of a coach is a huge thing. The chances that they respond to that goes up way more. Now this coach is saying to this player, it may be too late for us to recruit you. You do not want to be in that situation. The only way to stop that from happening is if you start in 8th, 9th, 10th grade. Now this player is very good and they're still going to find a place as a home. When you're this late on, you have to think about the strategies you're going to do in order to play college soccer. I promise you don't have to listen to this horrible voice. I'll have my voice back soon. But if you want more help, comment, call, and we can schedule a call with you and your parents.
