A coach tells a prospective soccer player his 10-minute highlight video is too long. Keep reels to 2-3 minutes max, split longer footage into separate videos, and cut those into 1-minute clips for social media. Consult an expert to pick your best moments.

Hey coach, I don't understand. Nobody's watching my highlight video. It's so good, just like, it's amazing. I'm such a good player. How come nobody's watching my highlight video in order to play college soccer? Let me guess, how long is your video? Oh, it's like 10 minutes long because I'm so good. Like, there's just so many good moments I couldn't pick out like which clips to take out because I'm just so good. Oh yeah, let me ask you something. Do you like reading books like from COVID to cover? Um, yeah, like if it's a really good book, I would read like the the whole thing from COVID to cover. What if the beginning of the book is like pretty boring? Would you want to watch like or read the whole book? Heck no, if the beginning of the book sucks, I am out of there. I don't want to watch, I don't want to read the rest of the book. Well, if your highlight video is 10 minutes long and the very beginning of the video isn't good, then there's really no chance they're going to watch the whole video. On top of the fact that a 10-minute video is like looking at a book like an encyclopedia. It's like, oh my gosh, I'm going to have to read a million books to get to the end of this encyclopedia. A 10-minute video is way too long, so you need to shorten the video to 1 to 3 minutes. 2 minutes 30 is kind of the money one for a highlight video specifically. Wait, but Coach, how do I know what, what to put in? I can't take out all my clips. I'm so— there's so many good moments. This is when you need to talk to an expert, maybe your coach, maybe somebody like the College Soccer Guy, and say, look, I really would like to know what clips I need. And guess what? You don't have to get rid of all your clips. If you collected 10 minutes of clips, that's amazing. Really good job. Instead, make it into 3 different books, 3 different videos because the coach will be much more likely to read a book that's not quite as ginormous as a 5,000-page book because it looks overwhelming to watch the whole thing. Instead, give it to them in little bite-sized pieces. They'll be much more likely to watch your video, just like you'd be more likely to read the whole book instead of seeing that it was a 500,000-page book. If you saw it was a 10-page book and a 12-page book, you'd be more likely to finish each book. On top of that is you want to make sure there's a lot of clips they're not going to see if you send a 10-minute video, and then you're going to be like, I don't have any more video to send because you you figured you sent the whole video, but they didn't even see any of those clips. So really what you should do is take that 10-minute video, split it into 3 clips that are about 2 minutes long, 2.5 minutes long, then take all those clips, split them into 1-minute clips, and put that on Instagram and Twitter. Oh my gosh, Coach, that's a lot of work. Like, I have school and I'm like busy. Do you know anybody that could like basically do that for me? Yes, I do. I'm the Cold Star Guy. I edit every single video for every single one of my students, the entire thing, no matter how many videos you send me, I edit it all. Now if you say to me, hey, I just want you for my editing services, we don't do that because It leads to a lot more questions because our students get questions answered and they get recruited once we fix their video. So you have to work with us in its entirety in order for me to help you with the video. If you want more help, comment, call, and we can schedule a call with you and your parents. Bye.
