A high school soccer player got an early college offer. Before committing, check if the school fits your goals, treat it as a backup while exploring better options, and know you typically have 2-3 weeks to decide. One player negotiated three extra months to pursue Division I.

Called Soccer Guy, I have an offer, I have an offer, I have an offer. What do I do now that I have an offer? Should I just take, say yes, or like, what, can I leverage it? Like, what can I do with my offer? Well, first of all, congratulations, you have an offer. The first question is, is this a school you would consider? Like, do you like this program? I would say, yeah, I really do like this program. I might consider it as like a backup. I'm kind of curious, like, what else is out there now that I've gotten one? Like, what else could I do with it? That's very exciting. Can I just confirm what grad year you are? I'm a junior, I'm a 2026 grad year, and yeah, I have an offer. Isn't that so cool? As of 2026 and you already have an offer, that's amazing. So the first thing is you're going to have to maybe buy time, right? Typically when coaches make an offer, they want you to tell them within 2 to 3 weeks. Now they may make an exception for you, and we've had that happen where one player got 2 offers from top academic D3 schools, but he really wanted to play D1. So he was transparent with them and said, hey, look, I love your guys' school, but I want to try and play D1. How much time can I have? And they were able to give him another 3 months to make a decision. So you are going to have to do something similar if you want to try and play at a higher level school than the one you're being offered to. But remember to be very polite to this school. Do not just write them off. Don't be like, "Thanks anyways, I don't want it." "How come I can't just write them off? Because I'm going to get other offers. I'm so good." Well, first of all, you don't know if you're going to get injured. Second of all, you always think the grass is greener on the other side, but it often isn't. If this coach likes you and loves you, that's really powerful. That means you might play minutes. "Oh yeah, I didn't think about like, I'm going to play like every minute. Like they pretty much, I mean, that's kind of what he implied." Well, then you should take that option really seriously. If you want more help, comment "call" and we can schedule a call with you and your parents if you already have an offer.
