A soccer coach surveys female players about their competitive leagues and explains how ECNL, GA, NPL, and other tiers affect college recruitment odds. Players outside the top tier can still get recruited to schools like CSUN if they're proactive: send videos, email coaches, attend individual camps. Jasmine helps players connect during the session.
Raise your hands just briefly if you're playing ECNL RL or ECNL. Will you raise your hand? Excellent. Raise your hand if you're playing ECNL. Raise your hand if you're playing ECNL RL. Raise your hand if you're playing GA. GA? Raise your hand if you're playing NPL or USU Soccer. Excellent. Raise your hand if you're playing— USU Soccer I did. EDP, E64. Any other levels I missed? Anybody? No? Okay, that's pretty much it for the girls. So to that end, does that matter, right? Doesn't matter what level you can play? The short answer is a little bit. So when I— you mentioned you're ECNL, is that correct? So I know she's ECNL. I'm curious, I want to know what that means. I want to watch her play because I know technically speaking on paper that's the highest level. I have quite a few girls here from GA. Are you guys friends with Jasmine? Yeah, Jasmine works with me. Um, so Jasmine, I encourage her to come here, and obviously you guys came here as well. So that's great, a whole group of a team. So you guys are cheating in a good way because you guys will pass to each other and you know each other and that's actually awesome. So GA there says to me, I'm really curious about them. If you're not playing, playing USU soccer or something else, you can totally still get recruited, but the odds that you're gonna go play for CSUN, who just won the Big West, frankly is unlikely. Now I say that 'cause I can tell you the truth. These coaches, not that they will or won't, but they sometimes won't because they do have incentives for you to come to their camp because they have to make a living. And/or they also don't know. You might be the diamond in the rough, so why are they going to say no to you? So it's important that if you want to go to CSUN and you're not playing ECNL, what can you do? More emails, more video, go to their individual camp to show that you are the diamond in the rough. Does that make sense? Excellent.
