A prospective college soccer player asks if they should switch positions at an ID camp to fill a gap. Don't do it. Coaches understand positional flexibility and want to see you play where you're best. Tell them you're willing to help anywhere, but ask for a chance at your preferred position.

College Soccer Guy, my parents said that the best thing to do at an ID camp is no matter which position you actually are, you see where the least positions are and you say that's your position. Is that what I should do?
I'm sorry to tell you, that is a red flag. I see what you're thinking. Hey, if you play where there's less people, but you have to remind yourself you're not competing with the players at the camp only. On top of that, let's say you do do that and now you're playing right back. Do you want to play right back in college? The point is for you to have fun. I don't want you to play in a position you don't like. Now, many of you do ask me, what if I only have game film in X position? Because in high school, maybe you're playing a different position than you are in club. The short answer is whatever you have video of, use it. The coaches who watch the video, the college coaches, are adept at understanding that they may play you in a different position. So just send them whatever footage you have, and then over the time, if you continue to play out of position, then you do need to talk to your club coach. And at the camp, tell the coaches in a polite way, "Coach, I'm willing to play at any position you'd like me to do today, but I'd like the opportunity to showcase myself at X position." Make sure you say that to them. Otherwise, you're going to go to the camp not playing your position, and it's going to suck. Comment the word "camp" if you want to know a list of camps you should go to during this recruiting process.
