Leandro Peña, a sophomore center-back with a 4.3 GPA, models his game after UCSB's Kale Mullerberg. He's targeting D1 programs like Northwestern and Western that value both academics and soccer talent, a balance the hosts stress matters for avoiding a miserable college experience.
If you want to have a horrible experience playing college soccer, then do this.
College soccer guy coach who played at University of Puget Sound. It was D3. I had a miserable experience. Don't make the mistake I made. We're currently at an ID camp right now. We're going to ask people what they're doing so that we can find out if they're on track for what they want. What is your name and are you sophomore, junior?
My name is Leandro Peña. I'm a sophomore.
Perfect. And GPA?
4.3.
Okay. Position? Center back. Okay. And what player would you say you play like?
Uh, Kale Mullerberg. Okay. What about a player that we could all know?
Virgil van Dijk. Okay, there we go. Okay, so I made fun of him, but he is a UCSB center back. And how do you know him?
Uh, he's the Defender of the Year for the Big West.
This is the quality we're looking for, guys. He gave me a UCSB center back over Virgil van Dijk. Okay, that is what we're looking for. If there was a coach here at this ID camp that Occidental put together, which is amazing, who would you want to talk to?
Uh, probably Northwestern.
Okay, and your GPA one more time?
4.3.
Okay, I know you already told me, but I just want you to say it again because it's great. Western is D1 and they obviously value academics, but they also really want good soccer players. And they're not one of these schools that are just going to say, hey, just because you have great academics and you're kind of good at soccer, we'll take you. They want both. Ask right now, what's the same exact answer? Okay, right. What player do you play like? Who do you look like?
He's the Defender of the Year for the Big West.
Legend. Honestly, this is too sick. If you're UCSB, please give this kid a look. I mean, that is so sick that he follows you guys like that. That's freaking awesome. This kid, if you see this video, go to their ID camp, tell them what you told us. That's so freaking cool. If you guys want more help on how to get recruited, comment the word email and I'll send you a list of emails you should be sending before ID camps.
