Is the recruiting process different for a GK?

A coach walks a motivated goalkeeper through recruiting steps: fix the punt technique, redo the self-interview video, rewrite recruitment emails with better subject lines, and attend goalkeeper camps. Target schools are Division II and III, though Division I remains possible.

Hey coach, you're gonna be working with one of the most amazing committed kids that I have come across when I've done this. He's already been very proactive. He's been cold calling. Now, one of the things we're gonna teach him is cold calling is great because it means he's committed, but it's not very effective. It's not mean we're not gonna do it, but we don't usually do it at the beginning. We do it a little bit later. So we're gonna teach him that. But I just wanna tell you, I'm gonna show you what he, his family here. Here's his family. I mean, the fact that he's already being this proactive, he's a perfect student for us because we have a lot of work to do and he's gonna do everything. So I'm excited to work with him. Here's what he needs to do first. He's gotta do a self-interview. He wants to go to a top academic school. He's got good grades, but his video's not formatted correctly. So we had his self-interview, we have to fix the video. Now he needs a lot more video, so he's gonna have to do a training video. We can teach him what he needs to do for that. The next thing is his email. He's already written emails. We need to see it and fix it. I don't know his subject line. I don't know what he's doing, so we need to fix those things. He will use the email system really well because he wants to, and he wants to do D2 and D3, and he's open to D1, but he knows that right now, realistically, D3 and D2. Now with the new JUCO rule, it's something we have to deal with, but just for now, don't worry about it because if we get an offer, that's the goal. If we don't, we can deal with the JUCO scenario later. He already has an offer from a junior college, so we don't really need to pursue that, which is great because then we could just focus on the D3s and D1s. He's definitely capable of playing D3 or D2. His video is— he's a good goalkeeper. He does need to work on left— sorry, right, uh, left hand to right foot, because right now he's using right hand to right when he's doing his punts, and he can't do a side volley like that. And so he needs to improve on that, otherwise coaches will write him off. And then we will then need to do an audit. He's already done a lot, so we need to pick camps. You're going to have him go to this camp, um, this is one of the camps he'll go to. And then the other one is going to be, um, I'll give you a list. I have to, I have to write it out for you. But individual camps are for him really big because of his goalkeeping. And then like I said, the family is lovely. So once we get this done, we'll have kind of the next steps. Okay, good job.
