Connor Beaton argues that ending self-abandonment means making yourself the priority. Only do things that get a genuine "hell yeah," say what you feel, and act despite fear. Discomfort is the price of stopping the pattern.

If I was prioritizing myself first, my needs, my wants, my desires, what would I do? What would I say? What would I choose? And what would I say no to? I want you to choose things that are a hell yeah. I want you to say the things that you are experiencing and feeling and would normally withhold. I want you to do the things that you genuinely inside you want to go do. You're like, I want to wake up in the morning and go for a hike or go to the gym. Expect Resistance. Expect the resistance. Expect the fear. Be afraid. Do it anyway. Have the resistance. Do it anyway. The only way out of self-abandonment is to start to self-prioritize. It will not change unless you start to prioritize yourself, and you cannot prioritize yourself without confronting the fear and the resistance.
