Welcome. My name is Danielle Gianni and I'm an anxiety OCD and relationship coach. Helping people overcome OCD more long term, just like I have.
Today's meditation is for those who struggle with contamination ocd.
This is a time for you to step away from fear and step into peace.
Learning how to create more peace in your life.
Right now, there is no danger. Despite what your brain might be telling you.
You are safe.
You are here in this moment where nothing is required of you.
Contamination OCD can make the world feel unsafe. Like you must be on guard, like you should be careful.
But here in this space, you are allowed to rest.
There is nothing to fix.
Nothing to avoid, and nothing that you need to control.
Just breathe.
And allow yourself to simply be.
Let's begin by taking a deep breath in.
And a slow, gentle breath out.
One more time. Inhale.
And exhale.
Allow your body to relax. As we begin.
Let'S bring our attention to your body one part at a time, releasing any tension.
Begin at the top of your head.
And let go of any tightness that you feel.
Maybe in your forehead.
Or your eyes.
Relax your jaw.
Unclench.
Drop your shoulders.
And feel them sink down.
Feeling those muscles relax.
Relaxing your arms.
And your hands.
Allowing your fingers to rest naturally wherever they lie.
You're going to soften your chest.
And let it rise and fall effortlessly with your breath.
Relax your belly.
There's no need to hold anything in.
Just let it be.
Now let your legs and feet become heavy.
Sinking into the surface beneath you.
Now we're going to let the entire body relax again.
Any of the parts that still feel tense.
Let it go.
Let your body be at ease.
If intrusive thoughts arise.
Anything about contamination.
Illness.
Something that you need to do to alleviate these discomforts, you're gently going to notice the thoughts.
Rather than resisting them or doing anything about them.
You're just going to allow them to be there.
I know it can feel very wrong to allow discomfort.
To not do anything about your fears.
But this technique will actually help you retrain your nervous system.
To process through them and let them go.
We can save a lot of time and energy.
When we reduce and let go of the things we're doing to try to stay safe.
You don't need to try so hard.
Running from it or trying to stay safe all the time is what is making you more anxious in the long run.
Imagine each thought as a leaf floating down a river.
You do not need to do anything with the leaf. You don't need to push it away.
Just let it float by fast or slow drifting further and further downstream.
Breathe in.
And breathe out.
You are simply the observer of these thoughts.
Learning not to give them any meaning or attention.
If sensations of discomfort, fear or urgency arise, remind yourself this is just a feeling.
Feelings are temporary.
They are not facts, and I don't need to act on them.
Now return to your breath.
Inhale, repeating calm.
Exhale, repeating release.
Now imagine yourself standing in a warm, gentle rain.
The raindrops are soft and cleansing, touching your skin lightly.
This rain does not harm you.
It does not carry danger.
It simply exists like you.
As it falls.
Imagine it washing away fear.
Doubt and uncertainty.
Feel the water move over your face.
Your arms and your hands.
It feels warm.
Smooth and hydrating.
There's no need to resist it or control it.
Just stand there, allowing it to be.
This is trust.
This is surrender.
And this is proof that you can let go.
And still be okay.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Despite how you feel.
Remind yourself that there is no urgency in this moment.
There's nothing that has to be addressed.
Your body is resilient. Your mind is becoming strong.
You can handle discomfort without needing to fix it.
Each time you feel the urge to run away or seek reassurance, come back to this place in this meditation, to your breath.
And to the calm that you can create inside of you.
You are at peace.
You are free of needing to control.
Take one final breath in.
And a long, slow breath out.
I want you to carry this stillness with you as you move forward.
Remembering that you don't have to act on thoughts and feelings.
Remembering that when you don't act, you actually create more peace. In the long run.
You are okay.
You always were.
And you always will be.
Come back to this meditation daily.
So that you can learn to practice.
Not giving into the thoughts or the feelings.
Learning to allow discomfort to be in your body.
As it naturally fades in time.
Contamination. OCD is not a life sentence.
When you learn how to respond.
To the uncomfortable thoughts.
Uncomfortable feelings in a brand new way.
And although it can feel hard at times.
On the other side of recovery is a lot of pride.
A lot of confidence.
And a lot more time to live the life you desire.
At my OCD coach, we are here for you. We understand you and we're cheering you on.
Now go have a wonderful day.
Sam.
