Why You Self-Sabotage I Anxiety I OCD

A short coaching video by Danielle Thornton explaining what self-sabotage is, why people do it (common limiting beliefs like "I'm not good enough"), and practical steps to reduce it. She advises identifying the specific negative beliefs holding you back, creating slightly more positive but believable replacement beliefs, writing or setting reminders (post-its, phone alerts), and practicing these shifts daily (10–15 minutes) while reconnecting with and trusting yourself.

Hey, everybody. Danielle Thornton here with let's Create coaching. And what I want to talk about today is self sabotage. Why we do it, what it is, and how to eliminate it from our lives. So self sabotage is something that we all do. No one's immune to it. But what we want to do is limit it as much as possible because it's really what is keeping us from getting things that we want in our lives and creating what we want in our lives. And so self sabotage is any behavior that we're doing that is keeping us from moving forward towards something that we want. It could be that we know we need to eat better, but we don't. Or whatever behavior that we're trying to get, we're performing the opposite. It could also be that good things are coming our way, yet we either don't recognize them or we push them away sometimes.
And so self sabotage shows up in a lot of ways. And the reason why we self sabotage a lot of times is because we have negative or limiting beliefs that are directing our behavior. So some of those very common beliefs are that I'm not good enough. I can't fill in the blank.
That nothing good ever happens to me.
You know, some people with weight loss, you know, who want to lose weight feel like that they're just genetically not supposed to be thin. People sometimes don't feel like they deserve a certain career or that they're always going to be this way, or that I'm lazy or whatever it might be. There's a thousand different things. So it's really important that if you have a certain goal in your life or a certain whatever that's not working for you, it's really important that you look at what are my beliefs around that particular thing.
If you want a career, maybe the belief is that I'm not smart enough. If you want to lose weight, the belief could be that I'm too lazy. Those are just some examples. But if you really dig in and look at what your beliefs are on a certain area that's not moving in the direction that you want it to, I guarantee you there's a belief there that is holding you back. So once you do determine what that negative belief is, and there may be more than one negative beliefs.
It'S really important that you now find a belief that is more positive. And you're not always going to go from A to Z. You're not going to go from maybe feeling like you're not good enough to feeling like you're amazing, which you are, by the way. But.
You can make it a new belief that's more positive, that's a little bit better. And then you continue to keep going. By the way, once you start doing this, you're going to feel a difference in how you feel inside yourself.
Which and then turns your thoughts more positive, your behavior is more positive, and then you're going to see things in your life more positive. So that's why this stuff is so important to kind of figure out. So as you start to determine what those negative beliefs are about, whether it's about yourself, it could be about the world, it could be about other people.
Once you really get those aha moments and be like, oh well, no wonder I'm behaving this way, or no wonder I see things this way, then you want to rewrite that belief, make it believable, make it something that you know your mind isn't going to go, well, I don't even believe that. So it's not going to work. But you want to make it something believable and something that feels a little bit better to you and then write that down, put it on a post it note, put it up on your mirror, put it up on your computer, wherever you need to see it every day. Sometimes I put reminders in my phone of things that I want to remind myself and I can remind myself once a day, three times a day.
And then really start to shift those beliefs. And I promise you, you're going to start to see your thinking shift, your behavior shift, you'll start seeing things differently. And again, none of this is overnight, but the more you do it and the more you work on this, you'll see that you'll start to move closer and closer towards your goals. And it's a really good feeling instead of feeling stuck. So. So again, a lot of this is just going back to the things that I teach, which is either A, reconnecting with yourself, learning to love and trust yourself and know who you are, what your thoughts are, or B really working with your mind and how your thoughts and beliefs are keeping you from the things that you want. And so this stuff takes a little bit of work.
But it's not a lot. It can take 10 or 15 minutes a day of just taking a look at this stuff and then moving on with your day can make really huge shifts. So keep moving forward. If you like this video, please hit like I'm going to be uploading a lot more videos on.
