Finally we've made this official podcast land.
You know, who knew? First of all, I appreciate everybody out there that's doing wonderful podcasts. I thought we could just jump onto a mic and have a good conversation and super excited to do it and we've had a nice little learning curve and there's a lot more to it than that. So kudos to everybody that's doing podcast.
Yeah, we had a little bit to figure out, especially with doing both of us at a distance. You and your place and me and my place was a lot more technical than we expected, but for a good reason.
Absolutely. And so with that being said, thank you for your patience. We are constantly working on improving things and any tips and advice is also welcome. We are. I'm totally open to constructive criticism as well.
Yeah, that's a good point. We want lots of good feedback from everybody. We'd like for this to be a very positive avenue for people to get questions answered and ideas, thought processes out. So we want to hear from our listeners for sure.
Well, I hope, I mean, I'm super passionate and super excited to talk about All Things Good for your and you might be wondering who we are, what this is, what is All Things Good for you so let's start with the who. And I think the why is going to reveal itself really quickly here. So, Amy, who are you?
Dun, dun, dun. Who am I? That's a question we should ask ourselves every day. Well, I am mother of two and I guess my new puppy, I could be kind of a mother of three because he's taking up as much time as a child, but started way back when in working in the gyms and personal training, moved on to rehab work and massage therapy, and then eventually went from there into physical therapy and then actually took a leap from physical therapy and went into sales and went into the corporate world for a couple of years and decided that that was not my cup of tea and that I missed working on people and doing things that felt much more personal and more effective for what my background was. And so I left there and joined you guys at Integrative Health about two years ago, came back to doing body work with you guys. And then in the last year I've been putting all of my interests together and started a health and wellness coaching business. So I launched that and has been picking up and really developing over the last year, but in the last three or four months and then just added in the element of corporate health and wellness coaching as well. So that is where we are.
First of all, I'm very thankful that you joined us at Integrative Health and that we have connected and I'm looking forward to this journey with you. So thank you.
Thanks. It's been a pleasure. I love being in a group of people where we're all very like minded but different. We all have different aspects, different styles of doing things that we're all very focused on doing what is best for the whole person in our group, whether it's what we can do for them individually or have another practitioner jump into. And that's one of the things that I was really attracted to with Integrative Health. And so why don't you, Brian, jump in and tell everybody about your fabulous background?
All right. Well, first of all, I just want to say that I'm human and therefore I have the same things that everybody has. We have the same emotions and fears and joys and worry and life experiences that we have and challenges. So I am somebody who is constantly striving and digging in to explore and improve experiences. And in my life journey with my three kids and my wife and my two dogs. And so I'm on this journey with everybody else figuring it out, but I am a health and wellness junkie and a little bit of a serial entrepreneur, especially in the health and wellness industry. I started fortunately at an early age doing massage therapy. So it's been like 21 years, 22 years somewhere in there. And that journey luckily got me really looking at a lot of this stuff that we're going to be talking about and also looking at myself and who I am. So I've been constantly evolving with that question and having fun with it too. Most importantly, after that I ended up going to acupuncture school and started in acupuncture. That's been 20 years, I guess, and founded Integrative Health in 2001.

We are still here and kicking strong and we have a variety of practitioners from chiropractic and massage, acupuncture and physical therapy and lasers and cryo chambers and shockwave therapy machines and bring it on an md and we have some other types of lasers for aesthetics and ob gyn. So we have a wide variety of practitioners at our office and it's a joy to be around everybody all the time and I get to play in my own playground constantly. So I'm excited to share some of my toys and stuff with everybody.
And you are great at bringing in anything that's new and interesting or has even just the potential to help somebody with a particular problem issue or bettering themselves. You're really good at bringing that in and trying it out and really thoroughly investigating how you can supply the best things for people. I'm always impressed with your openness and your your adventure with bringing in new tools, as you say, or toys as you say.
Well, I think as we'll discover and talk about a little later as well, that you know, there's not one perfect tool for everybody. Sometimes it is a combination of tools. Sometimes it's the right tool for the right tissue and their issues in their tissues. And sometimes everybody's body responds a little bit differently. So I'm su super excited to get to that part where we dive into some of that too. So there's so much to talk about.
With all that stuff, and it's not really an Integrative Health Inc. Promotional podcast, even though it'll overlap. You want to jump into the what kind of stuff we're going to talk about on our little podcast adventure.
Yes. So all things good for you is literally all things good for you. So we do not want to. I think, first of all, the big point of it is we don't want to put things in a box. Right? We've been in a box and a lot of us, unfortunately, are still in that box. So we want to discuss things that covers mindset, that covers our filters, the way we see things. We want to talk about what is integrative health and holistic medicine and how there's synergies between that and Western medicine. We want to talk about things from certain modalities and ideas and philosophies and treatment protocols, and there is no end. And if we're not talking about it yet and you have something you want to talk about or bring up, feel free, reach out to us. We want to explore. We are on this journey as well. We love talking about this stuff. And although we have a great experience in many different things, because we have them at our clinic and I, we both have dove into them a lot, there's plenty of things out there that still we have not got to play with. So this is supposed to be playful, it's supposed to be really empowering and everybody to take control of their health again. I think a long time ago, we fell into a situation where we lost some control a little bit and we can get into that a little bit more because that's a whole other kind of thought and philosophy, but there's a place for all of it. So we just really want people to be open minded. We want to share ideas, we want to share experiences, and we also want to encourage you to explore and take control of your health and explore and see how things can integrate together so you can live the best optimized self you can be, the most supercharged, you can be, the happiest you can be, and a lot more. So, Amy, do you have anything to throw onto that?
Yeah, I mean, I think when you and I started talking about the idea of doing a podcast and one of the things you and I are both in that mindset of keep learning, keep exploring, keep ourselves open to what's around the corner. I think both you and I believe in obviously, good health in the way we treat our body, but also we're both, both very positive and not in a neglectful or, you know, everything neglect reality kind of a way, but we're both very much goal oriented and believe in a positive mindset on things. And I think when we realize that those things were connecting, just getting into the conversation about how we believe that there are things we can do that may be a little different. Obviously integrative health, we're complementary medicines and complementary practitioners, but we appreciate Western technologies and Western medicine. We respect all the aspects of it. We just believe that there's more that we can be doing as individuals and as health practitioners and supporters for people's health. That it spurred on that conversation about how we spend so much money on disease processes that are preventable. And then we got into some conversations about what does living well look like, you know, longevity and happiness. And that just. I think those conversations and where we saw the overlaps just made us go, you know, a lot of people are benefiting from this, are starting to recognize that there's a lot more depth to living a healthy life than waiting until something is broken to go get it fixed. We can make decisions every day, throughout the day, from when you're a kid to when you're in your 90s, to improve how your body feels, how your mind works, how you perceive wellness and joy through your day. And I know that that's where we've kind of laid our baseline for this podcast, and that opened up a wellspring of information. Like, as we mentioned, this is our fifth time of trying to get our podcasts rolling and recorded properly. But every time we come up with more topics to talk about and more things to dive into. And I'm super excited, and I'm hoping everybody else is going to be excited for it because I think we're going to go on some really fun, not necessarily sidetracks, but we're going to hunt some things down and I think we're going to have a little bit of a fun time with things.
Thank you. Well said. Well said. Yeah, I mean, I think we have a lot to unpack and again, that exploring with you guys is going to be amazing. And to tie into something Amy said, you know, there's a saying that most people spend the first halves of their life using their health to chase their wealth, and the second half of their life using their wealth to chase their Health. And unfortunately, I do a lot of stuff with corporate talks as well as see individuals in my clinic and have been fortunate to see thousands of people that that statement holds true. And so we really want to change that whole theme. And so changing that theme comes with a lot. It comes with the education. It comes with, again, opening that mindset and really looking and trying to change and look at the way the filters that we see this stuff through, how we see health and wellness and how, you know, we've been trained at an epigenetic level. So epigenetics is just the way we've learned through the environment we grew up in, from our parents to our grandparents to the community we grew up and all that stuff. So there's a little bit of some challenges as far as reprogramming and kind of changing that lens and that filter that you see some of this stuff through. And I think that we really want to push that and really want to talk about that too. Because if we're spending the first halves of our lives using our health to chase our wealth and then that reverse of that later, it's a bad way to operate. We maintain our cars and our houses and all these materialistic things at such a detailed level, but at the end of our day, it's our bodies that got us to that place to earn that money to buy those things, right? So if we're looking at it, we should be putting that energy into ourselves and not feeling guilty about doing it. And the amount of people that come into the office and for their first time, right. The reason they haven't come in is because they felt a sense of guilt. They felt like they didn't deserve it. Right? Like their money needs to go to other places. And if you look at that like that's an unfortunate way to think and everybody listening right now, you deserve it. Put that money and invest in yourself. Right? Put your money into your health. The reward is going to come in so many ways later. Hey guys, it's Brian. I just wanted to take a pause for a moment in the middle of this podcast to thank our sponsors, Ouch, who's helping to make this podcast possible today. Ouch believes everyone should enjoy what life has to offer without enduring pain. They are a pain relief company. Listen, guys, I use their products a lot. They're proprietary herbal formulas built on top of a 2000 year old formula. Giving it time, tested, effective results. And I'm going to listen to that any day of the week. The combination of that with the founder having over 22 years of actual hands on experience treating patients for musculoskeletal pain makes Ouch a very special company. Ouch is made with the highest quality of certified herbs and CBD from organic hemp oil. Their ingredients are extracted with the utmost integrity to ensure the healing properties remain pure and concentrated to promote natural muscle pain relief and other benefits. I gotta tell you, I appreciate that so much. As a consumer I want to know what I am getting is exactly what's being sold to me. So they take it a step further. They have a certificate of analysis for all their ingredients before it goes into production and after production to ensure that you're getting what you're paying for. Listen here guys. Don't settle for a lesser version of your best self today when you can feel your best today. Check out Ouch shop that's spelled O.
Uh.
For a full line of their products. They're an amazing company. I use their products on a daily basis so check them out.
Yeah, that's such a good point. You know and you wouldn't. You don't hear very many people feeling guilty about going getting a knee replacement or back surgery or having whatever more significant things going in to the doctor because they have diabetes. And that's where we turned around. You know we were talking about we spent $500 billion on the big diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and those are preventable.

They're preventable most of them. Not every single cancer I get it but most of where we're spending our money in America is unpreventable disease processes and I think it's because of what you just mentioned that people they don't. Well has a lot to do with our mindset and the things like you would say, like how we were raised in our culture, but we don't deal with things until it's a problem or we feel like treating ourselves, quote unquote, to a acupuncture chiropractor or massage or a healthy meal. You know, those are treats and they shouldn't be. It should be like the reference to the car. It should be looked at like getting. Putting gas in your car and oil change. It's the way you're going to keep your machine running healthy longer. And only 10% of our longevity, based off of our genes, 90% of it is our lifestyle. And we can take what that looks like on how we're applying our mindset and our choices and our belief systems, how we're living our lifestyle is our lifestyle really, truly doing our best to support not just living a long time, but living well for as long as possible. I don't know about you, but I don't care if I live to be 80 or 105. I want to be moving and independent and happy and thinking clearly until the day I die. And that's not happening very much in a lot of society now, but certainly not in the United States.
You know, there's a, in traditional Chinese medicine, there's kind of a metaphor I'll give you guys is think about two batteries, right? You have two batteries. One of the batteries. Yes. Yeah, it'll sting. One of the batteries is what you've been given constitutionally, right? And so it's never, you're never able to recharge that battery, okay? So therefore you never want to tap into that battery, right? You want to, like, as much as possible, reserve the energy in that battery. So and that's called your prenatal qi. So qi is energy, okay? So you have this battery. This battery number one is your prenatal qi, your prenatal energy. Think about it as genetics constitution. However you want to, like, get it in your brain to where you can viscerally feel that the second battery is your postnatal qi. So your energy that you get after birth. And that battery is rechargeable. And so it's rechargeable by good exercise, it's rechargeable by good mindset. So manage stress levels, right? And the way we think, positive thinking, so forth, it's through diet, manage against stress levels. So diet, exercise, sleep, so being able to recharge at night. So if we're doing all of these things, and I like to think about it, you don't want to have a crack in any of Those. So if you have a crack in sleep and you have insomnia, you have stuff like that, you're kind of leaking chi. Right. You're leaking energy. So we want to look at all those things. And if you're poor in one of those categories, whether it's the diet and exercise or sleep or stress levels and mindset, we want to put our focus on filling that crack so we can stop the leak. If we continue to leak, that battery's never gonna continue to get charged to the optimal level. So what happens is we have to tap in to that first battery. Right, Right. And so you see people that either have traumatic experiences and maybe go into a hospital and come out and they look like 10 years older or I don't care where you're at in the political scheme of things, every president that goes in there into office for sure, first four years, if not if they get a second term, by the time they come out like they look, you know, they all have gray hair. Right. They've all aged because you can only imagine, again, doesn't matter what side of the fence you're on, you can only imagine the amount of stress that they're under, the lack of consistent sleep and all those things. So most people have probably had an experience where they can kind of see that. So if you're living off that first battery, it's not going to be good for you. So where you're talking about living that quality of life, the benefit comes in ways we don't even know, Right?
Yeah. And we know as a society now, more and more people are understanding stress. Stress is a big factor in your health. But I think what gets lost is the minute of stress and how it's actually, it's pretty straightforward on a lot of the things we can do to make big impacts on the stress in our life. And I think we get caught up again, especially in the United States. In America, we like to like the pendulum likes to swing really far the other way, where people feel like they have to do really massive changes and really be supercharged, super hard working at something to make a big change. And what we're finding is that it can be small changes that can make a big difference. And something that came across my reading recently was we think in days or weeks, and we need to start thinking in lifetimes. I've mentioned to you when we were talking about the podcast ideas about the blue zones, and I'm not obsessive with the blue zones, but it was a big, good read for me and Dan. I always Say his name wrong. Butner, I think, or Buettner. He was hired by National Geographics to travel around the world and try to identify different cultures that had the longest living people. So people that were living over a hundred years. And he came across a few different places across the world. And so it wasn't one specific place or one specific culture. There was a place in Greece, Italy, Japan, and even a group of people in California. And, you know, from studying them, they developed an idea of nine basic factors that dictated how long and how well they lived. And none of it is extreme anything. It's just a combination of a few things. And we're going to get into talking about that on our next podcast, I think, or one of our coming up podcasts about what those are. And we just want to keep investigating. All right? We don't have to make massive changes. It doesn't have to be something that is so intimidating and overwhelming to people. We can take small steps and make that happen. And I like that you bring up the Chinese medicine and the traditional Chinese medicine, because for many years, chiropractic, acupuncture, Chinese medicine here in the United States or in America was called alternative medicine. I think now that's reverberated.
I think they used to call it quackery, too.
Quackery, yeah. Now it's complementary, at least. So I laugh at that because it's ironic because it's coming around now to where it's actually being more scientifically proven with our technologies advancing here. But those have been working for these cultures for 2000 years. So I appreciate you bringing that into it because it's fascinating and I love the science and I love how it's overlapping and coming back into really making big impacts for people's lives in just little small ways.
So one thing you said, again, going back to the cultural thing, that's an example of a cultural filter, right, that had a bias because of the lens that us as a culture adopted by the way we were educated. Right. By the people telling us that these things weren't right. And so, again, that's just a challenge. Like, fortunately, that filter's changed. Unfortunately, it's not necessarily for the right reasons. One of the reasons that that filter has changed is because billions of dollars are being spent out of people's pockets to go search out these other things, to spend money on acupuncturists, to buy different supplements, to do massage therapy, to do these other things that at one time the filter was basically saying, no, these are not acceptable things. This is Quackery. This isn't good. And again, look at how the filters changed. So if it's changed, if it's moved from that position to the position it is now, unfortunately, because of driven by money. But it's going to change one way or another, right? Hopefully. Think about how much more we can still change that filter. So we might feel like. Absolutely. Like, never say never. Right? Like, that's my thing. Never say never. Because someday you might be changing your mind. Someday you might be kind of challenged or pushed in an area where you have to do this other thing that you said never to one day and you're like, oh my God, thank God I did that. That was life changing. But yeah, so it's cool to see that that filters change. But I mean, some of it is because of the opioid epidemic, right? Like, you know, the VA now covers acupuncture benefits and other complementary alternative services now because unfortunately, the opioid epidemic is out of control. So they're like, we got to do something different. There's been restrictions put on doctors to how much drugs that they can pump out now. And so that was a driving force behind some of the research to get some of this other stuff out.
Right? And thank goodness for the people who really have fought for what they believe to be other options than traditional western medicine and medication, pharmaceuticals being the answer to everything, because they pushed through for all these years to that. We can now prove that there's evidence of these things really truly making health benefits and differences for people that may have been questioned and like you said, labeled as quackery before. And like a lot of things in our lives, we have to kind of get smacked in the head with something negative or a broken body part or, you know, something not functioning or disease process before we maybe wake up and look at some other options. So in a way, yeah, there's the negative in there, but it's going to turn out in a positive way. We're looking for other true results options for our health care. And I just think we're growing as society, we're growing as people. We are in a place where we have a lot more information at our fingertips and we don't have to rely on just what our doctor told us. I know that our grandparents, they called their doctor and did exactly what the doctor said because they didn't have the time or the ability to probably have access to other information and to do a lot of research on their own. And now we have that. So I think we're seeing a turn even Though I know there's a bit of a shadow on overall health care. I think we're seeing a turn of people's awareness of what true health and wellness is. And, you know, we're not just talking about health in just the physical way. We are going to talk about physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, financial, all of those processes. We want to look at the whole person. And that's kind of where you picked into Integrative Health being the name of the company for our clinic is that you want to address the whole person and the whole individual.
Yes, absolutely. So, you know, I think what I'd like to leave everybody with with this first episode here is what I'd like for everybody to do is move that spotlight onto you, right? We don't want a little flashlight pointing on us. We want a spotlight onto us and be open to a variety of experiences and just think about being able to neutralize that filter. And then more importantly, when that spotlight's onto you, I want you to start listening to your body. And I think we have been uncomfortable talking about specific little things in our society. And there's more louder voices and there's more resources and stuff like that that I think, again, like Amy was saying, there's more awareness about, which is awesome. But little details mean more than what we think. So in Chinese medicine, when I'm doing acupuncture with people, we talk about your bowel movements, we talk about the color, we talk about the texture, we look at your tongue, we talk about mental clarity. And if you feel like you have short term issues or long term, or feel fuzzy or foggy, so we dive deep. So every little thing that you have going on could mean something significant, right? And so if the more we pay attention, I don't want you. We're not talking about becoming a hypochondriac. There's a difference between paying attention to your body and thinking. Always think something's wrong. It's not a negative thing to pay attention to your body, right? Just like when you drive your car, you have all these sensors on your car that's going to tell you if your tire pressure is low. It doesn't mean your tires are going to fall off, right? There's all these things. If your car starts pulling to the right, it means your alignment's off and it's going to put wear and tear on your tires. So we want to obviously go get that fixed. So in a positive way to be able to pay attention to the little details, because those are telling us something, then we have to ask, what is that telling us? Right? And then that's where the journey can begin. And so we don't want to see what we see. Often in our clinic when people come in and they've had a pain and they thought it was going to go away in a week and now it's three months have gone by and the pain still hasn't gone away. Not only has it not gone away, it's gotten worse. Not only has it gotten worse, it's migrated to a different part of the body. And so now it's a much bigger challenge to treat. Right? Because there was a dysfunction. The dysfunction compounded into a compensation. And the only compound do we want, just like the money in your IRA is positive, awesome interest, compounding, Right. And so we want the compounding effects of health to build. We don't want the compounding dis. Ease. Right. To build or those dysfunctions because then we start to get all these compensations around them. So put the spotlight on yourself. Make yourself the priority. Just like they say on the airplane, put your mask on first. Right? If it's going down, put your mask on first. And do not feel guilty about caring for yourself. Your family will appreciate it. The people in your work environment appreciate it because it's going to benefit everybody.
Yep, absolutely. And so on that. What's our next podcast going to be on, Brian?
It's a surprise, Amy.
It's a surprise. Well, we're either going to talk about some really specific ways to create better longevity and some proof of how that's been working for people. I think we're going to delve into a little bit of neuroplasticity and what that is and what that looks like and how it affects our decisions and how it can affect our health and our wellness. I think that's our next podcast topic. But I'm excited. I'm excited to just jump on this little path and let's go for a nice long hike and see what we see.
Well, I hope that we've piqued everybody's interest here and that we got everybody craving a little bit more and starting to get your wheels turning and thinking about some of this stuff. And I look forward to joining us on our next episode of All Things Good for you. Cheers to your health.
