Good morning Brian.
Good morning and Happy New Year. I love how every time we start this we're like patiently, like who's going to say good morning first? I always have fun. I'm like, hold, hold, hold, hold.
We got this and we're so nice to each other. It's like, okay, who's to do Good morning last time. Like we want to give each other fair time of mic time.
It's all about, it's all about fairness and equality.
Just because we're sharing the love.
I know, I'm telling you. Well, happy 2022. Starting the year off right.
It is. And I'm only going to call this because a lot of people are making the joke and that how you're like when you realize it's 2022, like as an also like repeating 2020. And I said no, I'm just going to refer to it as tutu.
Like I like tutu.
Like wearing a tutu. Like I think we should just make this a fun and light hearted year.
Will you wear a tutu to work today, by the way? It's not like crossing any human resource boundaries for me to ask you to do that.
I agree. I can wear a tutu. It's great. I think we should all occasionally wear a tutus. It's fun. I actually put up the picture. What is it? It's Jim Carrey from like, what is it? The pet detective where he has the funny dance that he's wearing the tutu.
Uh huh.
That's pretty hilarious that on a regular basis. It's kind of my tutu emblem.
I love it. Is that your screensaver?
It should be.
God, I need to really up my. I really need to up my screensaver game. I just have like, you know, there. I need to like not let them know not to be offended when they look at my screen that I took them off and put somebody with a tutu on there.
I think, I think they'll be okay. They can probably handle it for a little while.
So have you looked up the number two to see what it signifies? Because that's a lot of twos.
It is, it is. And it has a good connotation, isn't it? Like blessings and abundance.
I don't know. I. I'm gonna look that up. I trust you on that. But that sounds good. And especially since there's reports coming out that the pandemic is coming to an end with this new variant. So I'm gonna take that, you know, take that and run with it. So.
Yeah, well, okay. Yeah, it means. Well, biblically, it means unified union. Powerful angel number. I'm just doing a quick little search here. Just always curious. Balance in numerology. Yeah. Represents union and balance.
Right. I like it.
I mean, I guess that would make sense. Number two, right? Bringing things together, signifying. Yeah, that's great. I'll take it. Union and balance. This is a good number.
Speaking of balance, I just make that. Take that as a segue into our podcast today, Detox and Cleanse. And so I wrote a little quote about this and I just kind of pulled together some stuff in my mind, especially coming from the aspect of traditional Chinese medicine. But I just wrote a little quote about detox and cleanse. So if the body's systems are compromised, its ability to transform and transport is impeded, thus leading to stagnation and imbalance. These compromises and imbalances will trigger or lead to dis ease if uncorrected. So again, balance is important. So we need to moving into 2022, kick off the year. If everybody else is joining us on this little detox and cleanse regiment, try to find a way to remove obstacles that's impeding our body or compromising our body and allow the body to restore balance and do what it's supposed to do naturally.
And you may have, you may have like cut out there for just a second because one of the important things you said in that quote was the compounding effect of these compromises and imbalances will trigger or lead to disease if corrected. And I want to just highlight the compounding effect because the things that we talk about in general like okay, detoxing can be a little bit controversial and sensitive. And we're not going to get into, you know, proponents or supporting any one type of thing. We're just going to talk about as always in our podcast that this is just an inquisitive what can we do to look for the all things good for you, Right? What kind of things can we do to investigate for your own personal health choices what might work better for you and to improve your health, improve your mindset and your life. And everything that we go into on our podcast is to just stimulate your curiosity to investigate what we're talking about. Always want to preface that we're not making any medical claims, we're not diagnosing or making any big suggestions or looking.

We want you to always check in with your medical provider and just be wise with what you're doing. Always look into the details of what you might be experimenting or trying with your body. But compounding effect, right? We don't have to do anything drastic. You don't necessarily have to. You don't most likely things that you're going to do that are detoxing your body. The toxics that you got into your body, toxins were accumulative, right? So they were compounding over time and we recommend that you reverse that process in the same way. Slowly and methodically. Well, that didn't make sense. Not methodically, but be methodic this time. Sometimes what we toxic by our body with. Wasn't methodic.
Yes. Yeah, yeah, well said. I like that. And again, when you're diving in and exploring, because it is, it's good to get curious and to, to jump into things and have fun and explore and play with different things. But whether it's a supplement or whether it is a specific treatment protocol, you know, a lot of things don't have research behind it. So just do your own research and you know, especially when it comes to supplementation, you know, be very cautious of, you know, where you're getting stuff. You know, if it's, if it's super cheap and, you know, it seems like a great deal, unfortunately it's probably cheap and hasn't gone through some of the rigorous tests and stuff like that that it should and could be doing the opposite of what you intend to do. So be cautious, but have fun and explore and ultimately listen to your body and how does it feel to you as well. If you feel good when you're, when you're doing that thing, then that's important information because you know your body more than anybody else.
So yeah, and, and just like, you know, ease into things, you don't have to jump in. You're not going to go from the couch to running a marathon in a couple of days or even a couple of weeks. Like, you've got to build up to it and ease your body into it. So go gently, damn it.
I thought that that's what this whole thing was going to do. You mean to tell me by February I'm not going to be a ultra marathoner?
I don't know, Brian, you're pretty superhuman. You could probably do it, but you might come out with a few hairline fractures in the meantime. Right? So just, you go easy into this process. You can just take baby steps and take time. Well, look what happens at the first of the year. Everybody jumps into the New Year's resolutions, which becoming a dirty word. But people with anything and changing their life or changing processes, if you tend to overdo it or try to make too big of a change too quickly, you tend to fail. That's too. It's too shocking for the system. I mean, we just have to work things into our, our life a little bit at a time or you tend to back out of it and quit. So take, take little steps, find small little ways. And even like we were just saying before, like when Brian and I do a podcast, a lot of times we just chat it through a little bit to begin with and we both bring in research and Share our notes and things to talk about it. And this topic was a little stressful for me because it can be really a big, heavy subject. We can get into some really deep things. We can get into a lot of controversies and debating whether or not this works or that works or like you said, research that supports it or doesn't support it. And I was kind of getting a little stressed about it. And you made a very good point, which was.
Well, control the things you can control. Unfortunately, there's certain environmental things that are out of our control, but we have to have fun and keep it simple and just worry about the things we can't control. But, yeah, keep it simple and, yeah, simple, simple. I tried to think about it in a couple different categories. So you can get crazy and start thinking about, like, your different organs. Like, I gotta detox my liver and I need to do my colon and I need to do this. So take a step back. I think about when I'm cleansing my body. I think about my muscles, I think about my organs, I think about my nervous system, I think about my mind, and I think about fluids and fluids, meaning movement of blood and lymphatic fluid specifically. And I know that that seems hopefully, like, not too much, but when I. I'll talk later about some of the things I'm doing and I kind of break it down into. I think about for muscle. So, like, anything you're doing, what can I do to. To kind of flush and get movement, and that movement, therefore, kind of detoxes and flushes that muscle out. What can I do to, you know, aid to my improvement of organ function, also stopping the impeding of it. We can get more detail, you know, with that as we go along. Again, nervous system, obviously, it's huge. So I wanted to break that out as a specific thing. What can we do to improve the tone between our parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system? Which go back and listen to that podcast if you haven't. Same thing with the mind. And part of the mind is interesting that I want to dig into a little bit later and then also again, you know, fluid. So when you're doing these things, how. What is it that you're doing and how does it impact, you know, that a specific muscle, organ, nervous system, mind or fluid?
Right. No, that's good. And for me, I always also throw in and think of more of what we're putting in and what we're circulating and what comes back out. So that can be everything if we don't. Keeping it simple. I mean, the first place to start with a detox and is what you're putting into your body and that's food, beverages and information. So if you look at you know where that starts with you know what are you thinking and exposing yourself to every day with TV and news and reading and people what do you looking.

Circulating around in your brain with your mindset and your thoughts and what you're focused on and what are you eating, what are you drinking? How does that, how is your gut processing it? And then of course I'm always focused a little bit on the liver because it's you know, the major detoxing process organ in your body. So you gotta, gotta take care of your liver. And Brian, you're, you're doing something that a lot of people consider important this time of year that everybody takes in. I'd pick February because it's the shortest month, but you.
Yeah, I'm doing the dry January and I'm going to be 100% vulnerable with myself here in the audience. But I'm not gonna lie, I don't think I've gone a month without putting an alcoholic beverage in my body since my early 20s. And I'm 47. I am a huge lover of the beer. I have two kegs on tap. I love microbrews, I love everything beer. As a matter of fact, my father in law for my Christmas present is sending me a craft brew pack every month for the next three months. So that's so good timing. But you know what, this is a big one because it is something that like I, you know, I know for my health, it's not good. And going back to what we were talking about, about habits with this specific thing, you know, when you're trying to change something, especially whether it's, you know, you're cutting out sugar or you're, you're doing dry January and just trying to change your behavior with your alcohol intake, you have to really, what is your why? And for me, the why has to be big. I need clarity around why am I doing this? Not just because somebody told me I need to, but for me, I need a hundred, I need, I need big buy in, right? Because the more I have that clarity and that buy in and the why, it saturates itself in my subconscious brain. And so, so far it's been really easy because my why is big and my why, just so you, you know, just for 100% transparency is right now I know my family needs all of my energy and clarity and I need to be on my A game for, for my family. So that's, that's a big why. Now other why's our curiosity. Like, I wonder how I'll feel after a month. Am I going to be smarter? Am I going to have more energy? Am I going to, you know, you know, have a lot more clarity? Like what's going to happen? You know, so there's the curiosity component. There's also, hey, I got this little, I got this little. My baby bumps building down there. So, you know, I know there's some abs underneath there. I want to see what they look like. So some of it can be vanity, some of it can be deeper. But come up with as many reasons why before you just jump into something. Because I think you can set yourself up for failure if you don't have clarity and really want to do something and again, make it fun. So I had a friend of mine drop over some fun, unique, different type of healthy beverages. Like one was a hop tea. So it was like chamomile, seltzer, water and hops. So it can be fun. So, you know, kind of like the curiosity of it is and the fun is like, hey, what can I do? What's some other things that are satisfying to my taste buds that I can mix it up? So I made a joke about I'm turning wine into water instead of water into wine. I'm turning my beer into water, my wine into water.
Do you know about the charity wine to water. Water to wine? No, wine to water. Yeah, it's one of my favorites and it's actually on my to do list is to go and help put in a filter system and you can fly and take a part of doing that or you can host from here, but There's a great company started by Doc Henley, I believe his name is. Really interesting story, but yeah, it's a whole thing about providing clean water to devastated areas and third world countries. That's all about around wine, which you know, fell right into my, my world. I love my wine. And you know, hitting back like what you were saying on the reasons why. I think anything that you are doing on a regular basis, you have to take a step back or it's. I feel important to take a step back and look at your why. And I don't care if it's drinking alcohol or consuming whatever, what type of food you eat, what you're watching and listening to or the people that you're around or even exercise. There are people who exercise and there is a point where it's too much and looking at why you're doing the things that you're doing and how is that affecting your life and are there ways you can tweak it or change it or modify it? How is it really serving you? Is it helping you grow and become, you know, the type of person and is it conducive to the type of life that you want to see yourself in? And alcohol, it's so prevalent in everything we do. And I think it's a good thing to step back and not necessarily not have alcohol in your life if you don't want it. If you're not drinking alcohol, hey, don't start. Good job. But just having that ability to have.
Control.
Over your body, right. And your choices and like you said, getting clarity of. I'm curious to know what I'm going to feel like if you can't go without a substance or a food or an activity. Maybe that's a signal that there's a deeper something within yourself mentally, emotionally or spiritually that you need to dig into and look at. And we're not just going to. I know our topic today was kind of to talk about detoxing, but we always look maybe when somebody says detoxing, they're thinking food wise or cleansing your system, body wise. But mentally, emotionally and habits. What can you detox from? To see how you feel or think about something. Maybe you're avoiding something that you need to address emotionally. And we are a lot of times using food and alcohol, social and connections and activities to avoid looking at something in a deeper, deeper way. So if you take away something, what are you going to get?
Yep, I love it. Two things. I got to go back. Two different things you said at two different times. One was about things that you're bringing into your body. Can you hear me okay?
Yeah. I said.
I didn't know what the ding was for. I'm sorry I'm not 100 awake today. But going back to what you're putting into your body or what you're putting in your mind, kind of that input versus, you know, is one and the one I had written around, like foods, because foods are such a big thing. So I kept it like, I kind of put a fun little thing to it. Is it friend, is it faux, or is it fun? Because I do believe you stuff, you know, there's that 80, 20 rule I kind of think about in my mind is 80%, you know, try to, you know, do the best you can and live healthy, but give yourself a little, a little downtime to, you know, eat that burger fries if that's what's fun to you. But I think it's. Let's take friend, foe, or fun to every level. So going back to what you were saying about the people in your life, and it doesn't matter if it's food or thoughts, but is it friend, is it foe, or is it fun? And kind of have those categories or buckets. And another thought was around, is it energy draining or is it energy building? So anything that is energy draining, even if you think it's kind of fun, look at it and you know, because it can be fun. But if it's repetitive, is it energy draining or is it energy building? So like the idea of even a, you know, regular alcohol consumption, technically, you know, from every aspect that would be more of an energy draining. So how much, you know, more time can you have, how much more energy level can you have? So, you know, just something to think about with everything you're doing in that kind of input, whether it's food, whether it's behaviors, whether it's people in your life, is it friend, is it foe, is it fun, is it energy draining or energy consuming or building?
So, and that takes daily observation, right? Like it's. You really do have to just get to a process where you can stop and reflect on going deeper and looking at things honestly.
You have to be very conscious of that and real with yourself because your, your, your ego mind, right, can really convince you otherwise. So really, you know, listen to that.
Deeper self and ego being just this deeper personification, this deeper self, not necessarily ego in the arrogance way, right?
No, ego is in more of the conditioned mind from epigenetics that's supported by, you know, our actions and behaviors in life. And so you know, going back to something we said a long time ago is there's egotion and intuition. Intuition is coming more from that subconscious place. Ego issues coming from more of the again, conditioned mind, this perceived person of who we are on the external kind of component of the mind. So intuition is that deeper. You just know it. Right. And so is it energy draining or is the energy building? There's a deeper like immediate knowing. Ego mind tends to have more of a convincing or a lot of mental dialogue. So if you catch yourself like having this mental dialogue, usually you are operating from that ego mind. So just be careful on what decisions you do. If it's just like an aha, I know I need to do this. There's no question, there's no mental dialogue around it. That's, that's a good place to make decisions from.
Unless you're operating out of a robotic response.
Yeah. In general, in general, if you've set.
Up a trigger for yourself, at the end of the day is time to drink, then you're not thinking about it and it's intuition to just go and grab a, grab a beverage at the end of your day. That one's maybe one you need to check what or food like you said. Great, you want to have that burger and fries or the pizza or whatever as a fun thing, but let don't have a fun thing at the end of every day.
Yeah, exactly. The 8020 rule.
It's not 8020 within your day, it's 8020 within maybe, maybe a month.
Yeah, yeah, the year, you know, again it compounds, right? So you know, if you're on vacation or whatever, but again, you know, listen to your body so. Hey guys, it's Brian. I think he came up with it. I don't know he said it at least. But he likes to tell people to take your meds every day. And so meds stands for meditation, exercise, diet and sleep. I also like to think about the M as far as mindset because I think that mindset is extremely important. So take your meds every day. Mindset or meditation, exercise, diet and sleep.
Very good. That's nice. I like that.
I like it too. I like it too.
Brendan's pretty sharp, that guy. Like him?
Yeah, he's pretty witty and definitely brings some fun energy. And speaking of input, like going back to two things. I'm sorry, I'm all over the place today.
All right.
But one is when you were talking about kind of the mind and maybe there's something deeper. I think it's good. And he actually Brendan was talking about this in one of his podcasts. That I was listening to through Growth day, but about 2022 is, you know, move on, let go. If you're holding on to stuff from your past, if you're holding on to experiences, you know, from your past that don't serve you well, you know, there's a time when you have to move on from those. So kind of like I've. I'm geeked out on gutting my garage and just purging, right? And it feels so good. I could have a whole podcast about how awesome my garage is right now and how good it made me feel.
It does. It feels so good.
It feels so good.
Yeah.
Huh. But. But in your mind, it's time to do that too, right? You can. You can declutter and get rid of stuff. So, you know, he brings up the point of if you're harboring stuff that you did stupid in high school, you know, it's time to let that go, right? Like, you know, you've. You've got value and learned lessons from it. So it's time to move on. Time to let that stuff go. So what can you. Mentally, you know, in a safe way, you know, what can you let go of and what can you move on from? What can you put behind you? So you're kind of think about that as kind of cleansing your mind and detoxing so you can move forward, you know, without that anchor tied to you.
Tell me, in the Chinese medicine, isn't the letting go I know tied to, like your large intestines?
It's metal element, which is lung and large intestine, long and large intestine. So if you think about breathing air in, you breathe in the value of the oxygen and you know, what the body needs and what is essential. And then you let go of the unwanted gases, if you will. And then same thing with the intestine. It has the last absorption of minerals and all that good stuff and receives the rest of the stuff of value. And then it's about eliminating and letting go. Go of. Of the waste. So it's a good metaphor for, you know, you. You've received things in your mind that are essential and serving you well and everything that's not serving you well. It's time to eliminate from the body, from the mind.
That's awesome. I think.
Thanks for bringing that up.
Yeah. And so, you know, keep your. Keep your. Keep your colon and your intestine happy.
It's important. It's very important. So moving into a couple things, if you don't mind, Amy, and then we can just Kind of bounce back and forth because so I'm doing dry January and then foods, I feel like I eat pretty healthy, but I am just taking that friend foe or fun approach. So when I'm putting something in my mouth, you know, like, let's talk about right now. And again, if it's excess especially, I'm gonna allow myself to have my wife mix an amazing fettuccine Alfredo. You know, if that happens once a month, great, I'll eat it. But if it's, you know, if there's starchy carbs every night, then I'm just gonna look at it. Is it friend foe right now? And if it's a foe for me right now, I'm just gonna put that aside, you know, not put that on my plate. But how can you, you know, that affects obviously functions from, you know, liver, gallbladder, stomach, intestines, colon, all so forth. So when you're looking at the foods in your life, you have to determine what your goals are. I recommend that you also kind of start looking at what do you feel like your weakest organ function is. So when you get into eating some foods, how does it affect that? So now, I mean, obviously I'm not talking about like lungs and stuff, but that ties into the supplementation. But just think about, you know, if your liver or if you have like acid reflux and belching and all that stuff, maybe it's liver gallbladder. So how does the foods you eat affect that and kind of build on that a little bit?
Absolutely. And I mean liver, your liver is so significant to every other well functioning process in your body. I feel like paying attention to your gut and paying attention to your liver is one of the best ways to overall detox yourself if you're going to look at your internal processes. Fatty liver disease used to be very much about alcohol abuse, but we are now so bombarded by chemicals and toxins in our food, in our water, in our air, in our furniture and our carpet. I mean, it's everywhere. Not to scare everybody, but it is.
I'm going to put myself in that bubble.
Oh yeah. But now, like we're having fatty liver, non alcoholic fatty liver disease in children. And scary numbers. The percentage. I don't remember what it is, but I know that Overall, like the US population or over 20, 25% of the population is dealing with fatty liver disease. And that's the ones we know about, right? We can look at what that looks like in your daily life. Like if you're not eliminating, speaking of large intestine if you're not eliminating at least twice a day. I mean, there are some people who don't eliminate their bowels even once a day. It's a very common thing. If you're not. If you're. If you're feeling heavy, obviously weight gain and just fatty tissue on our bodies, if you're not thinking clearly, if you're dealing with upset stomach, those are all. These are all just various signs of. You might have something going on with your intestine, with your liver, and maybe looking at some ways to change that. And again, I know it can be overwhelming, but you can get this from. We know about lead. Right. But we kind of think that it's eliminated from our environment, but it's not. It's. The lead still shows up in a lot of different ways. Our toys and our paints and in our. What the. What do you. I don't even use it. I can't even think of what it's called anymore. The pans. The nonstick pans. It's huge. It's still. It's that people are still using that every day. And that comes off in your food and gets into your system. Pharmaceuticals and, you know, things from our air pollutants and what we drink. So, again, I get a little like, oh, my gosh, how do we protect ourselves? But it just take small steps to protect yourself. What can you, you know, eliminate and be aware of what you're putting on your body? You know, what kind of lotions, makeup, and shampoos are you using? Deodorant is a big one that you can just kind of take a step back and maybe make a little shift and pick something a little healthier. Or just bring up your awareness as to what's in the products that you're putting in your body.
Is it friend or foe?
The friend or foe. Absolutely. And just make little steps. Okay. You don't have to. Now, one of the things I do help people do is go through and, you know, remove all the things from their house that might be in their pantry that might be hurting them. You don't have to. To make a positive change, you can start with just a few things. But, yeah, you can make a big change really quickly if you're able to. To do that. But most people, that's too much. So just starting with a couple of things, make a couple of food changes. Just start bringing up your awareness as to what you're putting in and on your body.
Yep. Keep it. Keep it simple. And when you're looking at those ingredient lists, too if the ingredient list isn't simple, then it's usually not good for you. So. So if you look at it and it only takes you 2 seconds to read it, and you don't need a magnifying glass because the print is so small, that's usually a good sign. If it looks at a paragraph and you need a magnifying glass to look at it because there's so much. And usually there's some problems with that too.
And look at the first couple of ingredients and look at the last couple of ingredients because things like spices. Speaking of reading labels, spices is a general term that they can stick anything into your food without having to tell you exactly what that is. Just a side note.
So, yeah, remove anything that you feel like is compromising your system and then. And allow your body to do what it's supposed to do. But we've got to stop putting things in our system are, you know, causing our body to work harder, causing stagnation, causing stress on our system so it can do its job. And then that's movement, too. Oh, sorry, go ahead.
Yeah, no, just like you're saying, like, obviously, you know, again, we're. We. Everybody needs to take this into consideration as to your personal situation. If you have any medical conditions or things like that, you need to be careful with what you're doing, but you were just about to move into it. Like muscles and movement. But things that help sweat your body, making your body sweat, whether that's exercise or saunas or infrared, spicy food, Sweating is good. You know, breath work is good. Moving your body and your muscles is good. I think that's where you are about to move into, is moving your body every day.
Yep. So, yeah, so one of the other components that I do every day anyway, but I'm making sure I definitely do it, you know, during my detox, is movement every day. And so again, I kind of broke some of the things out that I'm doing as far as affecting muscles, organs, nervous system, system, mind, or fluid. So movement, for me, I put for muscles and fluid. So it's flushing my muscles out. Right. And it's getting my blood and my lymphatic fluid to flow. Now it does a lot more, but just as a broad category, you know, so that. That is key. And when you said like the sweat and infrared sauna, so I put sweat and infrared sauna, slash, cardio really helps again, to move stagnant fluid and blood and get stuff moving out. So movement, cardio, infrared sauna, things that make you sweat are super important. And Those are nice active things to do. You can do some passive things for the fluid as well. So I'm doing some lymphatic drainage and that's a style you know that you can do through massage, but you can also do it through cupping.

So that's another more of a passive way to get some of that fluid moving. But you can't replace the active. I definitely always believe in the marriage of passive and active therapies.
I like that marriage union number two.
A union. A two. Two is union.
Right?
Balance. I'm also doing some acupuncture and massage, so I'm going to be getting that regularly. So the massage is good for fluid, muscle, nervous system, mind and organ. Acupuncture is also good for fluid muscle, nervous system, mind and organ. And then I'm doing meditation and mindfulness for my nervous system and mind and breath work is for my nervous system, organ and fluid. And then I have an other category and the other category is my fun category. Not that all those aren't fun, but those are easy to, you know, easy to do. I feel like a lot of it, you know, if you already have some of this incorporated, but the other one gets into what all things good for you is about is that exploration and just what the heck, try it. So like I just did a gong bath not too long ago and that was very cleansing from an energetic perspective. But I'm going to throw some other crazy things in there. So I'm going to get some cranial sacral work. I might do some Reiki or something like that, some other energy work and then go and hit my. Well, we were talking about doing the. We'll hold off on the beer spa.
Yeah, I know we would just get that in before the, of the year. Now we have to wait.
I know. Well, we'll go out and maybe that's a December thing before dry January. But have another category where you just throw some random stuff in there, right? Like even if there's no sign, I mean, if it's safe, but like, you know, some people like to do the foot baths and, and that's. There's another category where there's not a lot of research about it. But, you know, why not try it? It seems cool. How do you feel when you do it? So have your other category.
Well, and I think you have to be again, like, okay, yes, we love research proving things, but it's just like how long did. Has Chinese medicine been using meridian lines and acupuncture? And because there wasn't enough Western research, it was kind of fufu for a while. And now our technology is catching up to where we're proving that that's a real thing. So I think again, be careful and cautious. Not, you know, be aware of what you're doing. It's nice to have research to back it up and be. But look at how it works and look what's doing things with other people that are making progress. So, you know, things like salt baths and detox baths and, you know, detoxing and doing juice cleanses and all these things. That's fine. Watching what you're purchasing and supplements, what, what's out there. Obviously be smart about that and really investigate what's in your supplements, what you're taking and what, what it does. But you feel like doing a juice cleanse for a few days, you're probably not going to hurt yourself unless you have a medical condition that, you know, if you have hepatitis and your liver is already stressed and damaged, then you probably don't want to do, you know, significant fasting and cleanses because that's going to overstress your liver even more. But if you're a general healthy person or you just need to, you're not a general healthy person, you don't have any disease processes, you're not going to hurt yourself. And again, I'm not a medical doctor, I'm not giving a medical advice, but likelihood of you hurting yourself for doing a juice cleanse for a few days is slim.
Well, by the way, research changes every three months. So even if there's research that says one thing today, I mean, looking at this, looking at some of this, you know, just to research what we're going to put on here, it's like, you know, it changes so much. And I think obviously we're in clear. We're in times where clearly we can see that with other things as well. But going to your juicing, though, the one thing I really recommend with nutrition in general and especially juicing is you do want to diversify. I don't think that anybody, again, whether it's a supplement or whether it's whatever, I think that something, you know, on a regular basis consistently has a compounding effect. And there are things that are naturally occurring and good things that too much of can become a bad thing. So I think diversifying your juices is a good thing versus like having spinach in it every day or you know what I mean?
So, yeah, and diversifying your, your diet and anything that you're doing. I mean, if you're doing the exact type of exercise every day, meo switching that up is probably a good idea. But with what we're trying to say is, you know, just be rational and go easy into things. But also, you know, let's not have a bunch of overreacting things. The body is pretty able to handle some experimentation and adapting to certain things. But I wanted to touch on something that. And I know we're going to wrap up here, but I just wanted to have a personal.
I've got 20 more things to say. I'm not going to wrap up anytime soon.
That's a long one. We obviously, you and I, are big proponents and supporters of massage and acupuncture. I have to say I was trained in not. I'm not a lymphatic specialist because there's a whole other route you have to go for that. But I was trained in lymphatic, you know, massage and taping and, and cupping. And I am still always just so impressed and amazed at the human body and how it responds to that. Like, I will still do a lymphatic focus drainage for somebody. And when I hear later that yes, it worked and it was so great, or if I tape somebody, even when I worked in the hospital, I did k taping and there's a specific way to do it for, for encouraging drainage for area, I was always amazed at just how well it works. And then you and I have a shared client that we see on a regular basis and she's an older client and she's really struggling with swelling in her legs and doesn't have the necessarily access and ability to do some other types of exercises and things. And she comes to see, between the two of us, I have to say the acupuncture results that she gets from lymphatic drainage and the edema swelling in her ankles. So fascinating. It works so well for her. So I just have to give a kudos out to Chinese medicine and acupuncturists for that. So appreciate that being such a helpful thing for people.
Yep, I know who you're talking about. And yeah, it's pretty amazing to see the difference with her, for sure. Yeah. Speaking of massage, real quick, and this is something I love that I'm going to be doing with my massage too, is I really love visceral. Get to receive visceral manipulation. It's not the most comfortable, but, you know, there's so much compact, you know, in your, you know, in Chinese medicine, we have upper jiao, lower jiao, middle jiao, upper jowl being above the diaphragm, middle jowl, diaphragm to belly button and lower jowl, belly button down to pubic bone. And so that brings me to something else I thought of. I do have 20 more things to say, but, you know, all the organs are surrounded by this connective tissue and everything that kind of gets gunked up. So to have somebody get into your abdomen and release your diaphragm and like work around your organ systems feels awesome. And breath work I have on there that I do that I've talked about earlier is important for the organs and fluid because when you are expanding those lungs, it's pushing down on the diaphragm and it's juicing and kind of squeezing and compressing the lower organ system. So the breath work really becomes important for, you know, obviously fluid exchange, oxygen exchange to the tissues, but also does kind of juice and compress. Compress those organs a bit too. So.
Yep, yep. And visceral massage, for anybody who didn't catch that yet, just the abdominal region massage, working through your intestinals and your stomach. And there is a process to it and it. It. The ending result is. Feels good usually. Yeah, it can feel a little uncomfortable. And if you're. You're struggling with things in your gut or intestinal tract, it can be a little uncomfortable during. But it's very beneficial and very helpful. Yeah.
You feel light and clear afterward. Yeah, actually I feel wonderful after a freaking pedicure. I swear, a pedicure makes. I feel like I just cleansed it some way. I don't know why. So that's in my other bucket. I think we should mention one obvious one before we get off here that we didn't bring up Is water like clearly drinking water? I know it's an obvious one, but there's different rules out there. I like to keep it simple and say half your body weight in ounces, but obviously that is relative to the amount of output or exercise that you're doing as well. So, you know, if you, if you increase your sweating and you're doing cardio and more exercise, clearly you're going to need more water than if you have a day of lower activity levels. So water is important to carry toxins out through throughout your body and flush it. So make sure you're drinking water. And then of course, we could get crazy and talk about all the water out there and all the misconceptions and the toxicities in water systems, but we're not going to do that.
So it just. Yeah, it is something to consider. It is a big, A big part of our daily life is our water. And having some awareness about what's in your water is a good idea. And each, each area where they get it from and how it's processed is different just from one area of the city to the others. So.
And then if you need alkaline water or electrolyte water or vitamin water or regular water or ph balance water or.
Yeah, exactly. Just try to drink clean, good water and, and you know, a lot of people just trying to get their fluids and you can have decaf teas and that kind of thing. You have to be, you know, somewhat careful with what you're doing. But if you hate water, but you need to put lemon juice into it or a splash of juice of some sort that's not a bunch of sugar. You know, that's all considered still your body absorbing the water. It's. You got to avoid the, the sugar and the caffeines and anything that's not a real natural, like your water is bubbly and brown. You might want to think about that's not normal or.
Yep. And just remember, is it friend, foe or fun?
