I'm sorry, could you say that I didn't hear you. I didn't catch that. Would you say hi Amy?
Hi, Amy.
Good morning, Brian.
It is a good morning. I just rolled out of bed and I'm having some coffee and preheating the infrared sauna that I'm gonna go lay in for half an hour after this.
You have all the fun stuff.
I love my toys.
You just got off your little trampoline. When people don't know this, I'm gonna tell them. Because when we warm up or start our starter podcast, Brian is on top of playing with his mic all the time. He's jumping up and down on a trampoline and massaging his face with a massage gun.
I don't know if any of that is an image anybody needs to think about.
You're. You are very proactive on improving your health and taking care of yourself. So I'm always impressed.
Well, I, I'm a person. I can't function until I take a hot shower. So today I did not jump into the hot shower, so I had to do some extra jumping on the trampoline.
I have to drink at least 20 ounces of usually lemon water and make my coffee and take my dog out. That's My typical routine. I didn't get to the dog going out this morning because it's pretty early.
So I think I hear Toby back there begging for you to take him out right now. Mommy.
Yep. He's usually pretty upset if we're not going outside to play first thing in the morning, but that's all right. He has to wait. He can learn. It's good. It's good. But I am pouring some very piping hot French pressed coffee. So my world.
Pour me a little more. Yeah, mine's half empty.
There you go. There's a little more.
Oh, thank you. Thank you. Wonderful, wonderful. Well, Toby's going to like it later. It's going to be 66 degrees. It's happy dog weather today.
So happy Colorado weather. It is fall. It is beautiful. I love the cold, crisp mornings and then the sunshiny days. It is wonderful. And I'm prepping for winter already. I'm getting my ski gear ready and switching out the camping gear to. With the winter gear.
It's awesome. I know. Ski season is here. I gotta go. I gotta get. I gotta get stuff for my kids. Oh, that's a whole nother thing. Okay. We're not gonna go there. We're not gonna go there. Well, sorry, you go ahead.
Yeah, I was just gonna kind of give a little insight into what we're gonna. We're gonna be chatting about today. Today.
What was it? What are we talking about again?
We're going to talk about coaching.
Oh. And personal development stuff.
Yes. How do we make ourselves even better?
Better.
Your power. Yeah.
Unleash your into self. Your into power. Personal development. I don't know. I would love to hear this from you, but I was fortunate when I was in my early 20s when I went to massage school. The school I went to was this beautiful place that this couple had built out on 60 acres of land and silk. Hope City, North Carolina. And they were very. So much of the program was about working on yourself. And so it was cool, like it was a bonus to go there. And you know, they felt like if you. The better you were with yourself and had clarity and kind of moved your own stuff. I don't want to say baggage out of the way, but moved through some of your stuff, then you are more available and present for the client stuff. So they did, they gave us a lot of tools and we did a lot of meditation and, and things like that. So I got to dip my foot into that world early. And then it started off just a path of discovery and, you know, couldn't stop reading materials and stuff. So I was fortunate to get into it early. And still today, 48 years old, almost at 58, still can't. Can't stop. And it's. It's just constant. But I'd be curious to hear how old you were when you got involved with some personal development.
Can't stop, won't stop.
Can't stop, won't stop.
That's. That is hard. I. That. What a wonderful experience. I went to a really fantastic massage school here in Boulder. But I don't. I mean, you know, I don't think they had that kind of focus. So that's wonderful. You know, I think I. I don't know. When I got into self, like, development things, I think I always was. I. I was a fairly anxious and insecure child. So I think I probably grew up constantly thinking about how I could be better and do better and inner thought and inner awareness. Probably too much so. And maybe, maybe in high school, like, I was in a couple of like, what they call it? Ex. Ex. I can't think of the word. I do this every time now, Brian. I'm losing my ability.
I'm going to try to help you. I just need one more. I need, like. Give me another, another. Another syllable, please.
You know, ex. It's. Oh, my gosh. It's basically where they g. They throw you a. It was a type of public speaking and you basically had to just pick a topic and start talking about it without any type of preparation or planning ahead. It's not called extent extemporary speaking. I can't remember what it was called.
I think you'd be amazing at it. Whatever it's called. I think you'd be great at it.
I was terrible. I, like, crashed and burned so bad on a high school competition. It was one of the worst moments of my life. I can think about it and I'd start sweating.
Talk about leaning. Leaning into something uncomfortable. Right. That's one way to grow.
And it was. And so I was very business oriented. I wanted to work in the corporate world. And I. So I think in high school I just had the fortune to. I worked half a day, so I went to school really early in the morning, and then at lunch hour, I drove and worked for a corporate company. And I think just being in that environment, I saw I worked with executives and worked in the business world at a young age and had mentors that kind of encouraged me to do certain things. And maybe that's kind of where mine started. And then I just always was Curious about how to whether it was, you know, be a better trainer because I was really into personal development or personal fitness. You know, I was a trainer and worked out all the time early on in my early 20s and all the way through school. So I think I was just always driven to kind of be like investigating how to continue to grow and learn and explore what I'm interested in and what I'm good at, what I could be better at. Yeah, all the way up until I had kids. But I guess I really got into the, you know, being more on the professional side of it about only just about five years ago. But I've always like I being in physical fitness and then going into physical therapy world. I was always focused on how to encourage other people to kind of dig deep and work out their insecurities or their fears through like physical fitness and that kind of thing. So I've always been in that realm of encouraging others but then also doing it for myself.
Looking to get out there and feel the in your hair Chevy E EVs have you covered like the Blazer EV with bold style that's sure to you away. And with Silverado EV towing is a breeze with the capability to hitch up and tow with ease and Equinox EV helps you keep moving along like with confidence. Chevrolet together, let's drive.
Yay. Yeah, it's a good time for people. I remember going back to, I mean I was in like the 90 early, early 90s or something. But back in the day we didn't have podcasts and you know, all these YouTube and as much lectures and stuff going on at least you know, was available to me and a lot of other people. So back then it was just reading a mass amount of books, right? Library and library, which was fantastic to explore and needless to say, you know, we have a crapload of those books laying around here. But you know, people that are listening to this podcast, it's amazing that this resource is available and there's so many good platforms for personal development and tools and you know, mindfulness and meditation didn't even used to like even though it's been around for thousands and thousands of years now, it's now it's like the buzzword even in companies, you know, for doing mindfulness this talks and stuff. So the awareness around it and the acceptance and the ability to be able to talk about it without sounding like, you know, you're too woo woo is really cool. So first of all, like, I know we want to talk about coaching a little bit because I'm super excited about that. But the personal development platform and community is so strong and there's so many people in, like, why not dig deeper to have discoveries and help yourself move forward energetically, emotionally and like, find that inner spark and that vibrancy and all that joy and yumminess. It's. It's awesome. And it's so cool to learn and, and discover all these tools. And, you know, I just got some new technologies that I'm looking forward to playing with as well for some. For stuff in this arena. So I'll have to. We'll have to share some of those later, but cool stuff.
I saw that you had something on the, on the counter at work yesterday.
Yeah.
Oh, this is a bride thing.
I. Those of you that are listening, that are patients, get ready. It's coming.
Exciting. It's exciting.
But I. Yeah. So I would love to have a podcast in the future on some technologies in the health and wellness arena that we can kind of play. We can actually, let's do our own, like, little playful consumer report on some. Some products that are, like, effective. That could be kind of fun.
Well, and so I mean, like, you're saying, like, personal development had kind of, it seems a little in the past. It had, you know, I think people avoided it. Like, people felt like it was too soft or, you know, it meant that you were weak. I think we're becoming much more aware that looking at your inner dialogue and up leveling yourself isn't a weakness, it's actually a strength. A lot of this has been, you know, male performance driven because of just the history of where business and executives and, you know, a lot of it was male dominant and, and men don't necessarily like to think about themselves in that way in the past, and now they're getting better about it. And I think that's women coming up in the industries of business and development and all of that too, is. Is influencing that area because we're a little. Maybe open to looking at that a bit more. You know, it's like, and I'm not trying to insult men, but come on, we know.
I feel so insulted right now.
You're still special, though.
But, you know, you're right. There's. There's also with the male component, a part of it is cultural. Right. As far as our lack of desire to look at our emotions around certain things.
Right.
Or fear, you know, subconscious fear, you know, and patterns. And then also, like when we get into relationships and you know, the communication piece and stuff like that, like I said, like a Lot like, like, yeah, like, yeah, but, but so you can tell, maybe I'm nervous already just talking about relationships because of the like, you know, that's my tell. But to get around that those pieces have that tabooness around it or, you know, yeah, just like, you know, a lot of people don't want to go to therapy. It's like, it's not necessarily therapy, but it's okay to ask questions or like, how can I be a better communicator? How can I be more uplifting and connect with people? How can I, how can I better, you know, take a pause and understand what emotion I'm experiencing right now? And what is that emotion about? Like to stop and ask those questions are just good. It's good. It's good for you.
Sure. Well, and it's like people, I mean, mental health is being much more respected. And today you used to be ashamed to say you were seeing a therapist. Now it's kind of like you get a bonus point in the dating world. I can tell you that like men are always talking like, I have a therapist. I know it's very more accepted than ever before. So I think this is. And I didn't realize like even when I kind of got into some of the coaching world or I did not realize how long coaching has been around and how executive. The executive suites in the corporate world has been using coaching for just that reason. Uncovering like their, their self saboteurs, but also, you know, how do they organize their time, how do they become better leaders? How do they become more effective communicators and leading their team, not just driving, you know, the old manager style of yelling at people or scaring them into doing things or delegating and belittling your people was not very effective. It's still not very effective. If that's the way you're running your company, it's not going to work out well. But you know, learning to lead by example and by encouragement and mentoring your own team. A lot of those executives had executive coaches to teach them how to do that. I did not realize that was such a common thing. And most people think about coaching and they're looking at, you know, sports which you hire a coach if you're in, or you have a coach in the sports world to increase your performance. Right. To be better at your skill, to do better, to be a better teammate, all these things. Right. So we're just learning now that I think we can have that in our daily lives. More people are being able to take advantage of the access to Hey, I would just want to do better in my personal life. I just want to do better in my relationships, my marriage or my friendships or I want to be better with my health and fitness. All of those areas you can hire specific coaches for.
So if I. Yeah, to create a bridge for that. The word. Like to talk about a coach and to talk about personal development and, and all those things. You know, the personal development piece, there's again whether you're working on mindfulness and meditation, you know, components of that and you know, nutritional stuff and exercise, there's all these components and tools and techniques and stuff that one can do on their own. And then in the coaching it's like it's kind of stepping up to where you are help their help guided to help you have other deeper discoveries and discovering roadblocks and again some of the self saboteur behaviors and things like that. So it's like the next level. And I, if you don't mind, I would like to just share that a little bit because I've done a lot of personal development stuff but I just had my first coach during COVID and, and it was very powerful and I didn't even know that I would get as much out of it as I did. Especially for having had an awareness and doing a lot of personal development stuff over the years.
Yeah, yeah, no, and that's fantastic. I. Thanks for building that little bridge. I think we should have little building construction sounds for those moments but.
Oh, I can find one. Do we have a reaction in here? I don't know.
I know we need little sound effects going. Where was. Let's back up to that bridge that I just destroyed.
Yeah, you broke down my bridge.
I didn't burn it. I just put down the drawbridge.
No worries. It's a drawbridge. I like it.
So yeah, again, back referencing personal training or working on your sport, you can improve yourself as a runner or a basketball player. You can go in and, and work on your, your drills and all these things. But you're going to do even more advancing if you have a outside critic or helper. So it's just like obviously if you're working you're going to have a basketball player, he's going to, he's going to go in and do his own work and get better. But if he has a coach that's helping drive it and getting into the. And they don't just say hey, you need to change your technique or you need to run faster here or you need to be aware of this. They obviously work on the inner dialogue and mental strengths for their players. Right. So as you were saying like we're just going to get better. You can do your own self development but if you want to go up, level up, if you want to really kind of dive in deeper, then that's the maybe indicated time to hire a coach. And you can hire in all different levels now. Right. Like you don't, you know, you don't have to just have it be a massive life change. You can. There are coaching industry has exploded in the last few years and I think that it's, it's even estimated to like grow another 20% in the next couple of years.
Looking to get out there and feel the in your hair Chevy evs have you covered like the blazer EV with bold style that's sure to you away. And with Silverado EV towing is a breeze with the capability to hitch up and tow with ease and Equinox EV helps you keep moving along like with confidence. Chevrolet together. Let's drive.
Yeah, I like the coaching. When I started it during COVID I was like, you know, this is a great opportunity to work on myself and how can I come out of this even, you know, a stronger, better, happier, like just, you know, all the, all those keywords. But the one thing that was really, really helpful to me that I loved was the observation piece, the objective observation from, from the coach and some of the insights that gave me like oh shoot, I didn't even know. That's a good point. I didn't realize I was doing this over and over, over and over, saying things like this or you know, whatever. So some of those just big ahas. But then also the accountability.
Yeah.
Of, of we had timelines, right. And, and deadlines for certain things because I got homework and the homework had questions and perspectives that I would never ask myself. You know what I mean? It's like I would never write that sentence. So to be able to have somebody deliver something from a higher level that challenges my thinking or me to push me to that a different place that I would never do myself because like in personal development, like if you're working on yourself and if you're journaling or whatever, you're writing something from the way you already think. Right. Is coming from you. But to have somebody give you a sentence that you have to answer or to give you a homework that you, you know that you haven't done challenges you at a whole different place. And I just like it's very simplistic if you know, like if you work out and you are awesome at working out and you can go to the gym and pick up weights and you know what to do. That's awesome. But as soon as you have a personal trainer, you know, at the gym, all of a sudden you're like, oh my God, I haven't been this sore in three years or I felt this muscle before. It's because they're challenging your body outside of a pattern that you typically, you know, do yourself and, and are holding you accountable to those extra two or three reps that maybe you would have put that weight down because you were exhausted. Right.
Right.
So, yeah. Hey guys, it's Brian. I just wanted to take a pause for a moment in the middle of this podcast to thank our sponsors, Ouch, who's helping to make this podcast possible today. Ouch believes everyone should enjoy what life has to offer without enduring pain. They are a pain relief company. Listen guys, I use their products a lot. They're an amazing company. I use their products on a daily basis basis. Check them out.
Yeah, I. It's perfect. The personal trainer world is an excellent example that's easy for people to understand. Like if you've ever worked with a personal trainer, you know that it makes a significant difference to your performance and your ability to, you know, work out more specifically. But do you know where I'm, I'm going to walk back up that bridge. Do you Know where coaching kind of started?
Well, I'm sure those English had something to do with it.
Of course they did. I was like, you know, I think it started back like the Oxford. And they considered them. There were tutors, they were mentors for. For kids, for students. Not kids, but students to have tutors to work through the testing experience. And so that's where kind of the. They call them mentors and tutors. But then they progressed over time to become. At some point they called them counselors. But that, you know, has shifted and we'll talk about that. But they don't. Coaching and therapy don't overlap that way. But they did for a little while call it counseling way back in the 1800s. And then, then it eventually came back to a coach which strangely enough, or not, not even strangely, but the original word of coach was, you know, a carrier of people. It was like the cab thing that you horse and coach, they carried people.
I'd so much rather be called a carrier of people than a tutor. I don't know why tutor sounds offensive to me. Don't call me a tutor. I am the carrier of people.
I'm a carrier of people. I like it. I like that too. Yeah. So. And then it really took off like the 1970s. The guy, what's this? Timothy Galloway, he wrote the book the Inner Game of Tennis, the Classical guide to the mental side of peak performance. And he wrote it for. In a. In a. With intention to help athletes. But what they found was that he started getting all these requests to come and do presentations and talk to high level executives about their mental side of peak performance. And that is kind of when the whole world opened up a little bit more to executive coaches learning about performance like you would an athlete. So. And then it's just continued to grow.
I think it's cool because there's so many little subcategories of it too. So you have, of course, you know, the life coaching one that's been thrown around for a long time. And then you have more health and wellness coaching and you have high performance coaching and you have. So they have these little subcategories that maybe put emphasis in certain areas a little stronger than some other ones. And of course there's many layers to each of them to explore. So just like all the things we always talk about, you know, as far as encouraging people to explore and stuff, even in this category and even in this arena, there's so many little nooks and crannies to explore. But the. I feel like the coach that you connect with. I feel like there's a, like you're led to that place. But you guys, it's a team, right? And so you develop this relationship and you have to have some vulnerability and feel comfortable enough with that coach to be vulnerable and to kind of lay it out there in many ways to really maximize it. So even when you're in that style, like discovering is this the best fit or best style, and then also the person you're having a conversation with, how, what is your level of comfortable, do you feel that connection? Do you feel, you know, these things to, to be able to, you know, open up in that way and really take pause and have them challenge you to a degree that you can, you know, have those ahas. So it's. So, it's, it's so much cool. So cool and so much room to play and explore.
And, and you. Do you kind of like, if you're going to hire a coach, like, what is your area? Like? You were saying there's so many different. Whether it's literally, you know, life coaching, business coaching, performance coaching. I mean, there's a long list of, you know, areas of coaching and there's different types of models you have to look at. Like, okay, not only are you wanting to achieve, but what is the formula? What is the approach that your coach is going to take with you? You know, there you've got. Most coaches are trained to, if they go through training, it's kind of unregulated a little bit. But what's their formula? So if are they using just the smart goals, are they using grow, Are they using more of a structured formula to get you into your results? Right. And then you got to look at that overlapping area of coaching and therapy. Right. So you can have a coach and a therapist. You don't have to have either or you don't have to have both. You're going to have to look at how you operate, how you can move forward to whatever goal it is that you're looking to go for. And that kind of determines what area of coaching you're going to go for.
I remember I did this thing a long time ago. I'm just going to backpedal here because it was a, it was a cool program that I went to and it. So it wasn't working with a one on one coach, but it was called Lifebook. And so I went and I did this program with a buddy of mine in Chicago. And the founder of Lifebook is actually one of the family members that you. Do you remember the Hallmark Store how they have those, like, they look like wooden carved figurines, but they're not real wood. Do you know what I'm talking about? Like, it'll be like a couple holding hands, you know, so. Yeah, yeah, those. So anyway, that I think it was her son that founded this company. And the concept is there are great, great human beings, but really cool. Where the idea is they give you this template. It's almost, it's a book, right? Like, so you have chapters and so there's different chapters that you create. So the chapter could be relationships, the chapter could be finances, the chapter could be career, the chapter could be whatever. And so they kind of start some of these paragraphs off and these different categories you then fill in with your vision of that. And then, you know, there's a library of photos that you could then insert into this chapter. And so it really is like a digital book that you're flipping through. And so it was really cool because it makes you just like stop. And it's almost like vision board meets journaling meets, you know, whatever into this chapter. And so I would do this every year.
Looking to get out there and feel the in your hair. Chevy EVs have you covered like the Blazer EV with bold style that's sure to you away. And with Silverado EV towing is a breeze with the capability to hitch up and tow with ease. And Equinox EV helps you keep moving along like with confidence. Chevrolet together. Let's drive.
At New Year's Eve that day I would go ahead and I would go through my lifebook and kind of look at where my vision was last year, how it is now and kind of change that stuff out. So very powerful tool. But I got to tell you, going through having a one on one coach through this pandemic and really having somebody look at some of those things with me and help me ask questions and, and find out what it would take to make things happen. Because sometimes it's like, okay, I would like this to happen. This is what I see it, this is the vision. But then we don't stop and go, okay, well what is stopping me from getting there? What are things that is taking energy away from me, moving forward in that direction? What are some of the tools I need to develop to become that person? What are, who are some people I need to have in my world to help do this? Who are. You know what I mean? So, yes, I never, I never wrote that stuff down. I never, you know what I mean? I'm just like, okay, here's My vision, here's what I want. Here's what I want. Oh, it's like, well, how are you gonna get there? What's stopping you from getting there? What are some blockages from getting you there? What is it? You know, so it, again, that's just an example of the difference ones like this personal development tool and the other one is the coaching tool. And so you can kind of see the dynamics between the two and how you're really challenging. And it's like, oh, by the way, here's your homework and you need to have this done by next Tuesday. Right. And so I think we all know if you don't have deadlines and accountability, you know, sometimes, sometimes it just doesn't happen. And all of a sudden like five years have gone by and you're like, shoot. What? Really, I really wish I would have done this. I really wish I could have, you know, been this. Right? You know, so.
Sure. Yeah. I mean that's, I think that's one of the key things to look for when you're, you are working, whether it's your own self development or if you're going to work with a coach is like, are, is there an accountability? Is there structure? Is there, you know, your homework, essentially you've got to have somebody that's pushing you to keep you accountable and reach your goals. You want results. It's not just, you know, you're not just whiteboarding planning, you're not just doing an action board or a vision board. You're, you want to make progress and work through something. So you've got to have some actionable goals and accountability deadlines. And that's, you know, if you're not getting that from a coach, then you might be at the wrong, the wrong person.
Wouldn't it be amazing if when you're 18, you finish high school, you're at 17, 18, you're assigned a coach. Like, you're like, it's not even an option. Like, here's your coach. That would be awesome. Like, can you imagine how much growth you would have had?
Yeah.
And I know some people are going to. I also understand that you have to grow by experience too. Sometimes you have to fail. Sometimes you have to like, you know, bump into things that are uncomfortable and have really, you know, so, you know, I know those are important too, but can you think about like, where you would have been if you, the difference of, if you would have had a coach at an earlier age to help bring this next level of awareness and help guide you through certain things and help you know, push you and challenge you in other ways that you wouldn't have been. It would, I mean, I think it's awesome.
Yeah, I think and then having the like periods of time where you go back to coaching, like, you know, obviously what somebody coaching you at 18 and then you come back when you're in your 30s or your late 20s, like every level, like you're saying just keep growing and keep pushing yourself because you grow, you have experiences, you, you develop a different mindset about things. So I think that would be awesome. I think there's so much coming out of high school that, that kids need that they don't have anymore. Like, I don't think that children, high school kids come out with a lot of the things we did when we were in school. Of course we missed a lot of stuff too. But you know, we don't have, have a mentor. You have a tutor, you know, have somebody to help guide you and encourage you. I think again that's why I think sports is so important in high school. Like so many kids learn so much about their interpersonal development through a sporting event. Yeah. You know, being a part of a team, being a part of something and that's, they've got that, that aspect of coaching and somebody pushing them and them having to really dig down and find them their own self in those experiences.
So I think it's cool too that the people, like people just tapping into athletes, for instance, like ironman athlete, like clearly if you can do an ironman, you are a high achiever. You are somebody who is at a very high level of fitness. Right. But even at that level, all of them still have bike cycling coaches, swim coaches. Like they, you know, even though they're awesome, they're pushing themselves to that next level by still hiring some of the best coaches they can. And it's interesting to me to also this, you know, as you were talking most, and this is, I'm going to be cautious here, but most of the people or a high percentage of the people utilizing coaches are already people who are successful like at high levels. So you know, like Oprah does one on one coaching. You know, people like that are already high, high level of achievers. And so it begs the question of like are they high level of achievers? Because they still seek that growth and they, they're, they are open to and desire that objectivity of somebody else challenging their beliefs, their ideas, their, you know, all of this stuff. And so just just a little side note.
Yeah, no, I think, I think it, does it attribute to the successful. Like, I found out when Hugh Jackman's had, like, a life coach before, I think even we knew life coaching existed. So, you know, he was.
He wasn't going to be. He wasn't going to be Wolverine. And because of his life coaching, he decided to be Wolverine. And look what that did.
I think his life coach is Ryan Reynolds now, but I'm not sure about that.
Okay. I got to tell you, I would love to have Ryan Reynolds as a guy. I would love to, like, sit down and have Ryan Reynolds coach me.
Yes, I would.
Like, I don't have too many bromances, but I got a little bromance with Ryan Reynolds.
Yeah. Ryan Reynolds could coach me to make peanut butter and jelly, and it would be a fantastic experience.
Okay, now, I think you're coming at it from a different perspective. I don't want to have a. I want to have a beer with him. You want to make out with them. I'm just saying. I'm just kidding.
All right, maybe, but.
But you really. You really just want the peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Okay. Yeah.
Anything that Ryan Reynolds or even Hugh Jackman does would be entertaining and life changing. Life changing. I'm sure he's hilarious. They're both hilarious. But Ryan Reynolds just cracks me up.
You know, I can really. I can really hear you more if you just had your shirt off. You know, maybe that would. That would help me focus.
Listen, I think. I think there's some. Some stuff coming out. That bromance is coming out. All right.
You're spinning it now, boy. No, I, you know, just as a coach, I'm just making some observations that. No, I'm just kidding. Okay, let's maybe wrap it back in.
Come on.
Yeah, wrap it back in. So let's. So I know we. Okay, so bridging everything together. We started off just talking about the importance of personal development. Many tools, many yummy things out there. You know, explore those, play with those. But then next level, you know, one on one coaching, like finding a coach that can really challenge and. And be observant and hold, you know, push some accountability and all that good stuff. But just talking about a little bit about the difference between a therapist and counseling and psychotherapy and, you know, psychology and all that stuff. We just want to be extra clear that there is a threshold to where you. If certain things are going on, you should be seeing a therapist. And I think it's great to have both have a therapist and have a coach because they do different things and they do have licensure. To do different things and professional boundaries and moral ethics to do certain things. So you know, just to be clear when you're challenging beliefs or perspectives and stuff like that, that it's not a, you know, if you're having some higher level mental health stuff that should be a counselor, A therapist that's licensed in that arena should be, you should be having conversations with.
Yeah. And the, the, the, the, the therapy world is becoming really supportive of working in co. You know, kind of co working with people with a coach. And a good coach will recognize when this is a therapy thing. Right. So in general though, if you're looking at coaching and you want to kind of be aware of the differences like a therapist does more like the deeper subconscious mental health issues. So they work more on like focusing on the past. They work more on diagnosing an actual problem. They're much more problem oriented. So they're going to look into your deeper set of thinking and your mental health. Right. And a coach is going to be a little bit more solutions driven. You're going to be working on more of like improving your performance. So they're going to kind of take where you are and where you want to be and work with you on getting results in that space forward. Not necessarily spending time and diagnosing or uncovering your emotional content. Now emotional content can come up.
Looking.
To get out there and feel the in your hair Chevy EVs have you covered like the Blazer EV with bold style that's sure to you away. And with Silverado EV towing is a breeze with the capability to hitch up and tow with ease. And Equinox EV helps you keep moving along like with confidence Chevrolet together let's.
Drive in coaching sessions. But you're not necessarily going to work on why you're upset or why you're fearful of that as much as you would be okay, what is this? You're experiencing something, what is that? And then why? Where is that applicable to what's keeping you stuck from achieving this goal or you know where a therapist is going to go more into the psychological part of why you might be angry where that's stemming from internally. So just being aware of that there is a little a careful over overlap. But it's just like anything else. Like with me in working with somebody as a personal trainer or working with somebody as a massage therapist or even when I was working, you know, physical therapy as a pta, I knew a level of okay, this is a problem you might need to go see, you know, a physical therapist or you might need to go and work with, talk to a surgeon about this or go see a medical doctor to get this treatment. You have to kind of know your boundaries. But it didn't mean that what I was able to do with those people weren't, you know, very effective. You just have to know when it's time to refer out, basically. And a good coach will do that for you.
Yep. It's definitely. I, I think going back to a couple words that you said, the coaching is more forward looking.
Right.
Versus past looking, some more forward looking stuff. And, and of course dipping into other categories of that is just, you know, some questions you might ask is how can I find more clarity? Like how can I be more clear? How can I have clarity? Right. How can I be more influential in lives? Right. Things like that. How can I have more, how can I be more courageous? How can I have, you know, so questions like that are kind of more coaching territory, but forward thinking, you know, kind of aspects and conversations in general. So.
Yeah. Yep. So those are, yeah, good things to be aware of. Yeah. And Tony Robbins is like one of the biggest known, modern day kind of leader in that develop self development, personal development, physically.
Physically as well. One of the biggest.
No kidding. Yeah. Yeah. And you know, whether, you know, some people are rubbed the wrong way by him, but he's done a lot to really open up those doors. You and I both really like Brendan Bouchard. He's one of our favorites. And I tend to identify, and not that I don't like Tony Robbins, because I certainly do and I listen to a lot of his podcasts and his courses and things like that, but I tend to identify more personal personally with Brendan Bouchard as I think you have as well. And there's like, I think those are like some of the bigger ones. Honestly, I can't even tell you that how many great life coaches there are out there now because there, there are some really movers and shakers out there that I'm not aware of, you know, so you can, I'm surprised all the time that people don't know who like Tony Robbins is or even Brendan Bouchard. I'm shocked that people don't know who they are. So you can kind of get into that, that world and do some research and find out a lot. There's a lot of stuff out there. You can just do your own educating and find a style of coaching that you like.
Yeah. And I, I know you are too, am open to being available for any sort of consultations and conversations for free. To help either, you know, both you and I certified coaches. And so I'd love to talk. I love to help people. I'm available. I know you would be available to help with guidance, whether it's coaching with you or coaching with me or helping find the tools or resources available. So, you know, feel free to reach out to either of us. Amy, what's your website?
It's really hard. It's Amy Christianson.com do you need to.
Is you want to spell the way you spell Amy for them. You want to spell it out here.
It is so simple. It's a M Y.
All right.
Yeah. Christensen is. Is C H R I S T E N S O N. It's all right. The T E N S O N is what those people. But that's me. But yeah, I wanted. And. And then people can find you on. You have your own little fabulous website too.
Yep. It's Better Human Inc.com Better Human Inc.com an awesome name.
I love it so much. And you have like the coolest little graphics on there. Animated things. I was like, I just want to go play with like open your website just to watch the little animations.
I love. I love the animations. That. That's the best part. And I, I. There's, there's a link on both of them that you can schedule any sort of free consultation and. But no matter what you do again, all this podcast, all things good for you is about just exploring that world and challenging yourself, challenging your perspective. Exploring and having fun. Right. And being able to dial in and be able to listen to more things about what's going on inside of your body and asking those questions. How can I improve in this area? How can I improve here? And just evolving. Right? We're here to have fun and evolve and explore and take personal agency and control of our health and wellness and. And then you. Your only job then is to make sure you share this with as many people as you know to help improve their lives. Yep.
Yep. Share it. Hey, you cut out just a little bit when you were talking about the coaching stuff and you were so can you tell people like what is your coaching focus?
So the, the focus you know so well. If you go to betterhumaninc.com that platform, I love doing corporate talks and group stuff as well. So on that platform it's available for a one on one coaching and the. Any sort of corporate stuff that I love to do as well. But the focus. And this is the program I went through the first section of it. There's of course, one on one staff, but it's of kind called the core. And so the nice thing is is it really does break down like what we call focal points and clarity and living with purpose and courageousness. And so there's all these different categories. So it's a science based system where they've done a lot of research and so each category leads to the next category. So it's very much building, you know, on this foundation up. There's lots of amazing homework that you get after each session. Definitely tons of yummy accountability. And the biggest thing is helping, you know, find those ahas. I, I just worked with actually a good friend of mine who's younger and super enlightened if you will, and way more aware and self aware than what I was at an early age. And you know, he's an entrepreneur and has his own business and all that good stuff. But guess what, there's still things there to uncover and we had some great discoveries with him. So it doesn't matter if you're what level you're at, there's always another level to move up to and there's always some discoveries to, to be had.
So, you know, and you're, so you kind of are following it more along the like performance overall life goals and, and career goals.
Yeah. So it's called high performance, high performance coaching.
Yep.
Now with my background with the health and wellness stuff as being an acupuncturist and herbalist and although all that credential, like I cannot get out of that lane either. So you know, I do do that and then also, you know, I have, just because of the tools that I've been giving people, you know, working on them, I cannot again get out of that lane. So you definitely. There's times where we're like, okay, we, we sidestep and it's like, okay, here's this platform we're working through, through. But I want you to, I need you to do these X, Y and these, these things because you know, it's still about how can you have more energy, how can you have more clarity, how can you be more vibrant, vibrant in life, how can you live with more aliveness? Right. So that's the things and we have to dig into different aspects to really, to really, you know, understand and stuff. And again, it will get into, you know, the people in our lives and relationships. But it's not a relationship counseling thing. It's, you know, it's, it's, it's a life thing.
Yeah. So, so you kind of look at all the aspects of it. And, and obviously you're not going to be a high performer if your, your health in general is poor. And then for, you know, it's like how I'm. I'm more narrowed into the health and fitness side of it, so I do more the nutrition and overall health goals for my coaching. And it overlaps with some, obviously a relationship and emotional content and understanding where you want to go with your life and all of those things too. And then it spills over into, like, my retreats and things. It is more of just kind of your overall health and wellness and your state of mind and kind of combining all of that. But I, I'm much more of honed in on the health and wellness part of it, and you're more like overall performance level. So there's a couple of different kinds of coaching options that we have. So.
Yeah. So reach out if you have questions about any sort of coaching. Again, even if it's just dipping your toe into it and curious on what direction you're going to go or if you need guidance with tools and techniques and stuff like that are. I think both of our missions are just to help people, you know, live better lives and be better humans. Right. So. And it's all good for you. Come on. It's all good for you. So we are on a mission right now to, to really push this out, this content out to more people. We just made these cute little cards that we're handing out at our office and, and kind of ready for our next level. So we do want to hear from people if they're interested in certain topics. We have some fun ones coming up, but definitely share and really give us some reviews.
