Hello. Happy Sunday.
Happy Sunday. Nice. Gorgeous. Fall Sunday, officially fall. Oh, I know.
And it feels so nice. I would. I. Yeah, I like the crisp mornings and then we have sunny afternoons.
It is a perfect balance actually, like right now if we could just hit the pause button, let this go for about six months. So I just want to say thanks for jumping on. I know we both have lots of fun things and activities we're doing today, but we've taken a little hiatus again, which is good because we need it. My kids were just getting back into school and getting into the swing of things and I got the oldest off to college and just working on a lot of other stuff around coaching businesses and we went on, been on a big retreat, all kinds of fun stuff. So I'm excited to get back into our groove and get our mojo on getting our Wu way.
I am too. I'm very happy to be back here and I think, you know, we can recognize that we've just, we've been growing in so many different ways. You juggle. How many businesses do you have? I don't know how you do all the things you do. And then I've got a couple, just a couple things going on too.
That's right. Because we have vision ahead, vision forward, visions.
And with that we've both been developing. I think we've mentioned before to our folks out there that we have both, you know, really grown at coaching. You've got your coaching approach, I've got my coaching approach. And we've been really building that over the last couple of years since specifically over the last year, you and I at the same time went to a coaching summit. Right. And unbeknownst to the other, had been looking at going to this and then ended up being at the same event that really sparked a big push forward for our development in our own pathway and then. But also bringing together some stuff that we're going to be building and offering. We have been building and getting ready to offer. So a lot of our focus has really gone into the world of coaching and personal professional development. And we just got back from another coaching summit.
Yep. Such a good community.
Yeah. Yeah. And it's fun because we can go. And for those, obviously I, I highly doubt that we have a whole bunch of coaches listening to us, but this is like a big, huge event. I think there were close to 2,000 people there and they're coaches of every different kind, every different kind of focus and level. Beginning long term corporate health, personal development, performance coaching, voice coaching. There's every type of coaching possible. And, and you're in this three and a half, four day event which is basically like a eight, ten hour long, what is it, nine hour long concerts. Yes.
Seven. Seven. Yeah. Seven to nine. Of just high energy and people supporting each other in a safe space. And really we got coached and getting coached from different perspectives and got to team up in groups of five and get coached. Thank you, buddy. Yeah. So it's magical. And this is another reminder, like I've been coached a lot. Just another reminder of how important it is to have a team and, and sometimes that team. Of course it's important that you have friends and you have family, but to have somebody totally objective, that's totally active listening at a higher level that can help unlock barriers within yourself. Right. And hold that space. But push and, and really challenge you is really amazing. And it's just one of those things. You just don't get that many in other ways. Right. Because your friends are awesome, but they don't have certain skills and don't understand the whole process necessarily. There's being a friend and they'll support you no matter what. And sometimes there's not that push. And then family sometimes can be a good cheerleader for you or not. So it's, it's just another validation of why it's so important. Just being in that space for a while is just like every. I need more of this, I need more, I want to give more, I want to receive more.
And I think we're entering more and more into and into the realm of not being ashamed or afraid to just ask for help. A lot of people are okay now. More and more people are comfortable going to counseling and therapy, which are fabulous. And I highly recommend that process. It's just not the only process. And a lot of people who go to therapy will find they do even more progress following up with coaching. And you know, it's different than going to a lecture and being taught a subject. Coaching really is coming into its own place of development and a process that really pushes people forward to the next level. And it's grown significantly. It's a valid field. I know when I first heard about it, I didn't understand what this looked like. And growing up in the more of the personal training and athletic realm, that's what I thought coaching was. And then found out, gosh, executive people for years, presidents, rulers of countries, actors.
High end, even Oprah.
Yeah, yeah. And Hugh Jackman. When I found out Hugh Jackman has had a life coach for years, I was like, heck, if it's good enough for Hugh Jackman. I just, I didn't really have a. I couldn't conceptualize what that looked like. And this only really came to my attention in about, in 2006, 16, 17, something like that. This was a whole realm of growing field of helping services. And so I really started jumping into it and learning about it and just seeing what was there. And then did a ton of my own work and coaching and going to retreats and getting help on my own stuff. And then just every time I went to an intensive or a coaching or got coach, every time I came away with that, I thought this stuff is so good. I just, I want to help somebody else feel like I'm feel. I want to. I know there are other people who feel frustrated or stuck or they feel like this undercurrent of resistance that shouldn't be or a resistance to this next level of what I wanted my life to be. And whether it was professional or personal relationships or belief patterns, I was like, I just always felt like there was something that was keeping stuff down a little bit. And I just was like, I know other people feel that way. I've heard them, my friends, my other people at work. And I want to facilitate that process for other people. So that's when I launched into this and I think you and I connected on that. And then when we both connected through Brendan Bouchard realizing that you might have a slightly different approach to or your coaching process, but the connection there to just say how do we fuel each other and really build this? Because we see the results that it's getting for people's lives and how fulfilling it is on both sides for it.
So yeah, it's amazing. I do think that there is still a lot of taboo. Unfortunately, I still think there's a lot of resistance to it. Even when I came back, I bought six journals that have like growth prompting questions in them. And so I gave them to. I got one for each of my family members. I haven't sent one to my daughter, but even my own family I gave one to my middle daughter who's like very delicate, like she's very strategic and all these things. And I gave one to my wife too. And I'm not saying this is throwing under the bus. I'm just saying this to bring the reality to it is is both of them threw up resistance about doing it and declined to accept the the journals because it' I still don't understand all the underlying barriers and other people I've talked to. There's just something about this thing about working on yourself. And again, maybe people don't want to admit that they have some vulnerabilities. Maybe people aren't ready to lean into that uncomfortableness and find where they're right, where they're wrong, some of their perspectives being able to change because change is hard the mindset. But I still feel like there is an underlying current of willing to lean into that and face it. And the great thing is it's a forward moving process. Right. So this isn't a process of looking back at like all the things you did as a that in your childhood traumas and stuff like that's much that is meant for a therapist. So the things that we're looking at is moving forward, how do you feel more aliveness? You know, I started getting coached during COVID I took the opportunity to, you know, want to challenge myself. I want to grow, want to work on myself. And I'm a personal development geek anyway since my early 20s. So I love just like putting that input and conditioning myself in that way versus having input in from other sources that conditioned me in ways that don't bring me joy. So I took the time to to get 24 coaching sessions done during that time. And my whole goal was to find my blind spots to to see where I had barriers that maybe I didn't know I had to discover like how can I move up to my next level even though I have things that are going great in my business, how can that move to the next level? And am I a part of what is holding it back? How can I be a better father even though I'm a good father? Is there another level that I can lean into, another depth of joy, another depth of deeper connections within my relationships, within my family and friends. And so it's not like you have to be broken to go into to receive coaching. It's really understanding and developing more self awareness. It's finding, helping somebody guide you and help give you some help guide you on the journey to finding some of your ahas. Because really a coach can guide you, but the journey is yours to take. Right. And, and that's, that's huge. But it doesn't again, you don't have to be broken. It doesn't have to be a taboo. You could just be somebody who wants to squeeze more juice out of somebody who wants to feel like how can I feel joy in everything I do? How can I in career and relationships and life in general? Yeah. So it's just interesting because I still feel like there is more taboo out there around it than what I wish there was. So we have again just that being said, we have plenty of room for all of us to grow and if the world steps up as a whole and we all do our individual part, I think it's going to be a much better place to live.
And I think that yeah, all of that very well said. And I as far as like the resistance and the taboo, I think it just requires more education. But it's also that space of okay, we're going to educate you on that. This isn't going to go and dwell on.

Any dark trauma. I do think that stuff comes up. One of the approaches of my coaching is working with people on understanding this underlying question that we're seeking to have answered throughout our life. And that's my foundational kind of launch pad to any type of coaching. Whether I'm helping somebody lose weight or helping them just develop better self worth or how am I showing up in my relationship. But that seeking of it's not a shame space, it's not a you're not good enough space, it's not a you're in trouble because you didn't do your homework space. I think people fear looking at themselves because it's easier to find out what's wrong outside of you rather than finding quote, unquote, you think is wrong within you. When it's not even about what's wrong within you. It's going what's not. Really letting me have the things and the reactions and the relationships and the interactions that I desire. I went, I. You say, like you said, you're always been a self development geek or nerd. And I don't even know if you use geek or nerd. I just threw that in there for you.
I am both a geek and a nerd.
Me too. And I don't know that I looked at myself like that. But I do have this pivotal moment in my early childhood that I tell a story about. We don't, I don't want to go into it here, but it was this moment and I was young, between that, I think I was like maybe seven. And it literally was this realization, this outside moment that didn't. I. I don't believe it was from within me. It was, it was in my own head that basically rationalized out a scenario I was in, involved. I was in a scenario where I was not happy, was throwing a little tantrum, pity party. And the thoughts that came through my head were, here's the thing, Amy, you could go and do this. And I thought about it and I was like, yeah, I don't do that. Or you could do this, or you can get up and go after and do the thing that you want and maybe it's not going to happen the way you want it, but you can still do it and pick yourself up and dust it off and get up and go. And that was like 7 years old. And I think that just stayed with me now. There was still a lot of limitations and a lot of things in my life that kind of kept me from still living A little bit small, but I always looked at scenarios like they can do it, why can't I? Or I don't like how this feels, I think I will change it. Or I really like how that person does something I want. How did they get that? How did they do that? What's possible for me to do it? And maybe not everybody has that or maybe they've learned to shut those feelings down and off and just live in an avoidance type behavior of what they really desire and what they really want in life or really learned processes of blame and victimization. I have to think that everybody wants to, if not necessarily quote unquote, get better, have more appreciation and enjoyment for whatever they're living. And we've, I think we're just taught that there are blocks to that. I think we naturally have these protection mechanisms that are uncomfortable to look at. And coaching helps give a safe kind of non judgmental space for somebody to open that door up and get real. It is all about the person. It's not about the blame or the reason that something was done or how it's not looking back, it's not even looking at somebody else. It's you. It's all, how are you going to work with this, how are you going to internalize this? What are you going to do about what you can control? And I think, yeah, it's why it's become such an empowering process for people.
I think it's great. First of all, kudos to you for at a young age having a situation and experiences where you knew there's a part of you that knew you could change your narrative because we all have stuff. Everybody has stuff. It's very rare. Even if you say you don't have stuff, I'm sure you have some stuff because we all have had some states of conditioning through our environment, through friends, through. I'm sure somebody has said something mean to you that has stuck with you or somebody's done something or something that helped you develop a certain belief about yourself that necessarily isn't true that has stuck in there. And I had situations for sure where I had shame and guilt and I screwed up. And it took me a long time to realize like I created a narrative of I'm not done yet because I wanted to keep succeeding to prove that I was good enough, right? And so unfortunately that narrative has to had to change for myself because I'm not done yet. I'm not done yet. I wasn't like living in the moment with each of those successes and finding them out of Joy and stuff like that in the things that I was doing on a day to day basis. And we all have those, that input and input and input from all these sources. And sometimes you don't even realize how it sticks and how it shifts your behavior, your thoughts and your actions. And I'm working with a, a young gentleman right now who always needs external validation because even the sport he played right at a high level, it's constantly trophies and championships and things of this nature. And, and it was, oh, there's always an external source, something that's telling you you're awesome, something that's D D And so it's, there's an internal witness of you that needs to hear that, know it, you need to communicate with, with that part. And I think that we, there is a lot of external stuff that you know, influences and shapes us. And so we need to recognize what's real, what's not and what's real inside and who's listening. And that internal witness, if you will, how can we lift that part of us up and again, unlock and break some of those barriers and of some of those beliefs that just really aren't true. Like we tell ourselves some of these things, but okay, show me the evidence that that's true. Show me the evidence. Like when was the last time somebody said something mean to you? When was the last time something that reinforced this belief about yourself? And so it's past 10 years. Nobody, it's okay, how long do we want this to continue? Right, so what does that look like five years from now? Ten years? Does that person's. What would that person tell you they're going to be telling you? That's crazy. I'm going off the, off on a tangent here, but my point is to, to what you were saying. We developed these stories and narratives and stuff like that from experience, which some are horrif. Again, there's a point where there is serious trauma and serious abuse that definitely should be. You should have some professional help with a therapist to really deal with some of that. So I'm not talking about these heavier, intense traumas, but I'm talking about some of the stories that's still impactful, especially as a young child and adult that can carry us forward and then sometimes they develop throughout life later when a series of chain of events can happen.
Yeah, it's like little T's and big T's and the little T's.
Looking to.

Over time you get enough little teas that aren't really processed and dealt with internally that they become a big tea. And my mentor, my coach, Mike Foster, he's really great and he just says trauma is not something to be compared. You can't, it's not a, it's not a competition to your trauma is not really necessarily worse and it's not really a place to do that. Like trauma and what happened to somebody that disrupted their understanding of safety and meaning and reliability and worth. It's just that it is. And going back to talking about the internal external, we're so conditioned to rely. I mean from the moment we're born, we are looking for an external validation of safety and support and security and nurture. Right? And as we grow and develop, we don't, we're not really taught to go internally. And when we go to the internal development and we learn to get all the things we need internally, then it's an expression of our external. Where we live such a society that it's all external defining the internal and it's. We're living in a kid logic again, you use some, some terminology from my foster is that we're living in kid logic all the time. It's that 6 year old, 5 year old, 10 year old kid that's making a decision on how we react to something our spouse says. It's a 10 year old kid that responds to what your boss said. You're still living in this, these thought processes that are your little kid reactions. And when you go through and ask those questions like you're saying, is this really true? Okay, yes, my boss really did say those things. But does my boss saying that mean a hundred percent that they think that? And if they think that, is it a hundred percent real? Somebody telling you something about yourself, does that make it 100% true and no. And then how do you respond to that? What do you do? And this is around the Byron Katie's teaching of okay, then what do you do with that? Because you're only responsible for what you do and how you respond to a situation and what you decide is true. And then to take all of that and go man, if you're in an unhappy situation, you take self responsibility, self leadership and then turn that around and say what would you be, who would you show up as and what would your life be like if you flipped that if you said no that's not who I'm going to be or no that's not true, this is how I'm going to show up. Without that thought, what becomes your reality? And that's the premise of coaching is to take people away from the kid logic to separate the understanding of this is my reaction of how I want to control my external place and this and, and I'm letting an external environment predict my internal space and flip that around and take that self leadership and act as a mature adult who's in their power and control and compassion of this is how I'm actually going to show up and I will come from the internal space and dictate my reaction and interaction with the external space.
Yeah, I think yeah. 100 and the foundation of a lot of that is we have to know we can have personal agency over all of that. So to accept that we can be the captain of our own ship and that we can rewrite our life and that we can rewire our brain and that we can create our own narrative is a critical part to the process. And that's why I personally love working with people who already have one foot in and want to grow and have accepted that versus I love to work with everybody. But if somebody is already in that space then it's amazing how robust and how much growth you can see in the process. So the mindset is huge. And to your point, I love the little T, big T first of all that's for love. Never thought of it that way so I'm going to borrow that. But you do have these, these different layers and the coaching style that I'm doing, it's cool because it's not specific necessarily always to a specific topic. We have these kind of broader categories like clarity, right. Courage, purpose, all of these different levels of, of conversation but within each of those it naturally gets teased out right on where it is by some of the guiding questions. And so it's really cool because never know exactly where it's going to go. But then you start seeing those common threads and you start pulling on those threads a little bit and it just starts to unravel. And again, does some of that go back to childhood stuff and behavior? Absolutely, it could, but it's not specific to looking back and understanding where it came from. Again, there's a difference between therapy and coaching. It's good to understand, it's good to see because if you have a target, if you can have clarity around it, then you can hit it, then you can see it, then it's. It's not hiding in the shadows anymore. So I think it is amazing to be able to gain clarity specifically around where some of those behaviors or ideas or beliefs or whatever have come from. But to be able to come up with solutions and see and pull on those threads and help unravel that for somebody is. Is amazing. But to go into it with again, a mindset of already some ownership of I've got this and some people aren't even close to that. And that's okay. That's okay to feel like life has just dealt you a crappy card and you're just like have your head barely above water and you're dog paddling through the currents of pardon my language, because that's where a lot of people are. So to see to. I love to see people grow. I love to see people try. I love to see people try. I can't even tell you how much I'd love to see people try and to see them grow. So if somebody can get their shoulders above water, that's growth, right? If somebody can get out of it and walk on land, that's huge growth. No matter where you're at and no matter what layer you're at, there is an opportunity. There is an opportunity to have a little bit more. There's an opportunity to feel a little bit more. There's an opportunity to live a little bit more. A little brighter, a little happier, a little more joyful, a little lighter, a little yummier. We all want that.
Yeah. And just. And no shame around that. And I was going to say another key factor of coaching is that okay, I. And I love the kudos because I'm big on words of affirmation that. But there was nothing uniquely. Yes, we're all unique people, but I am not some magical creature that at 7 years old I had this revelation. I was 7. And this is the way we're made. And I think a big aspect that I appreciate about coaching is that I and you And I, we all as coaches believe 100% that every person has that innate ability in them. They are all uniquely empowered and strong. And there is a light and a strength and a wisdom in every single person. No matter where you are in the world, no matter what has been done to you or what success level you have or don't have, whether your ethnicity, not all of that, that those are all just external things, there is a space inside you that is a light and a wisdom. And that is, as coach, what we draw out. It's not that we're telling you something. It's not that we're standing on a stage getting a light on us. It's the light on you and handing that back. And that's why I think you love it when you see people try, is that it's them showing themselves, their own strength and their own power. Yeah, that man, that just lights me up.
Yeah, I hear it. Hear it in your voice, Amy, as Brendan would say, can I get an amen on a Sunday?
Can I get an amen on a Sunday? An extra one outside of church? I love it.
I will say that when you're coaching somebody, though, I always tee it off by really making sure that you're empowered, that you know it's your space and that we can. My job is to push. And anytime I'm pushing past a barrier, where you're uncomfortable, where you feel like you're not ready to go, or where you feel like it's at a different level, always giving permission to do that, but it is a vulnerable space. So you have to be present. And if the more vulnerable you can be in that space, the more clarity and the, and the more kind of unfolds, it allows you to hear things at a deeper level and, and have deeper insights. And there, there's some key components to setting up a coaching session that I think make it can make it more successful for sure.
Well, and I think a good coach will have a foundation and a process and plan, but it's fluid. Whether it's your 12 step program or your 12 areas, I both have a foundation of where we launch from and we both have this big basket of tools that we can listen and pay attention to what's really going on and not just what's being said, but body mechanics, certain keywords and phrases that keep coming up, eye movement, all of these things that are giving us cues of what's really going on and maybe what's being said and not in the unsaid that we can go, let's try this little process over here and oh, they. I'm hearing this a lot and I feel like they're really struggling in this area. So we're going to work on this development space for this person and that fluidity, adaptability of somebody who's truly rooting for another person and being fully present and aware and that makes a really powerful coach for somebody.
I'm going to add to that coaching list if that's okay. Because since we're saying what makes a good coach, I feel like. Feel like there's. Those are all amazing ones. And again, we could talk about this list forever. But I want to add to it where I feel like it should be inspiring and have energy to it. So if you ever feel like you just went through a coaching session and just got beat up and you feel less than excited and inspired, I would just question that. But it should be. You should feel pushed in that space, too. And it should be. A good coach really does see and help see the vision beyond and help guide you to that. To where you're starting to see forward moving and you're starting to see what things can look like or what you want things to look like, why they're doing while that's happening. They're holding a space for you. Right. They're being able to, you know, guide you, you know, down this jerk, guide you through the journey. Even though it's your journey. They should be a really good guide. And again, it should feel safe, but energetic, but a little push, a little tough. So there's all these different, like, little spices to it that I feel are important to. To have.
Yeah. And it is a lot like a coaching when we were kids, like first four, right. You. That you have these great coaches and then you have these maybe not so great coaches. And which one do you want to be? You want to be yelled at? And sometimes there. There is a good coach. The really good coach movies, they're the. They're yelling on the sideline, but they're yelling with encouragement. Right. They're pushing. They can see the development and the potential in this kid that if I just push them a little bit and give them enough of a push to where I see that they begin to believe in themselves. Right. And coaching is. It's a. It can be challenging. You can get into some hard stuff, you can get into some deep emotional stuff. But if the goal at the end of every session and the goal to develop another person is just igniting that self, ignite belief and hope of self reliance, self efficacy, you can have the confidence that you can do the things that you want to do and that you are a person that's worthy of this relationship or this level of health or this level of career productivity, of this next dream or just, hey, you're allowed to just live and be happy right where you are. It doesn't always have to be a push to be more. It's a. Okay. You're also just finding those moments of gratitude and joy and appreciation and just where you are right now. But if you're not happy in where you are right now, there's something going on there that has to be explored. And I think, I wonder sometimes that people avoid self development because they feel like they're being pushed to do one more thing. And that's not always the case.
Yeah, yeah. And it should be fun. Yep. You gotta have fun during that whole process.
Yeah, yeah.
And just to go into the push, I didn't mean like when I was saying push. It's not like you're being er. It's not this aggression push. It's just it pushed to think about. There's really good questions that make you really have to think and process about things you might not think and process about. And they're not always these big, huge, deep things. But. But again, they are really good guiding questions that just put you in a space that sometimes you're just not in on your own and that can break through. So again, it gives you an objectivity. Right. There's an accountability to. Doesn't matter if you're in it for personal fulfillment or career advancement or just work life balance. Sometimes it's clarity and perspective, sometimes it's overcoming challenges, sometimes it's confidence building, whatever it is, or just deeper self awareness of like, how can things feel a little bit deeper, richer, yummier, just a little bit more present. And if that's where it is, you're absolutely right. So it doesn't matter where you're at. There is always an opportunity for growth. And whether you're getting coaching or whether you're listening to podcasts or whether you're reading books or whatever it is, I am a true 100% believer and will back any day of the week that you need some sort of constant input of positive things that help. And I'm going to say, I'm going to say pull instead of push here that help pull you into a direction that helps you grow. So whatever that looks like for you, just all things good for you. So listening to this podcast, really appreciate it. Hopefully there's a pool for you to want to pull you into an energy of growth. Right. Whether it's somebody else's podcast or one on one coaching or group coaching or whatever, I am your cheerleader. So get. Go get it.
Absolutely. Go get it. Go get it. Let's go get our day. I know we both have stuff going on and I think we're gonna explain. Sprinkle in a lot more coaching coming up. It's not that we're not going to talk about little tools and actual physical things you can be doing for better health and better all things good for you being encompassing in a lot of things, but as we both kind of continue to grow into our coaching journeys, we want to share that we want to continue. Obviously, we both have a huge belief and passion for it. So all things good for you is going to encompass a lot of self development, personal growth and just our things and our experiences in the coaching realm. We will be talking a lot more about our approaches and our belief systems around what we're coaching and how we're coaching and making some offers that are going to be exciting for people. And we just want to ignite you to leap into that next level of who you are and what you want in your life and just bring more enjoyment and fullness.
Fullness, actually, next week we're doing one. Not that it's. It's going to give you some fun tools, immediate tools. 12 things you can do in three minutes. Three minute, three minute tactics. 12 different three minute tactics of health and wellness, of healthy things you can do in three minutes. Because health and wellness and things that are good for you don't have to take two days, they don't have to take one week. They can be done in three minutes. So I'm looking forward to that.
Overwhelming. Right? It doesn't have to be some big exhaustive process. It can be done in three minutes. It's consistency and impact and even. And we'll get into this. But yeah, the neuroscience supports it that you can make a huge impact in your overall belief system and your health by just last applying three minutes of focused processes. So I'm excited. I'm looking forward to that.
Love it. All right, everybody, go feel the day. Feel your day, everybody.
Go be awesome.
