A speaker at the Archibald Prize Exhibition discusses what draws people to painting: the technical pleasure of materials and color, the emotional depth that reveals something true about being human, and the patience required to let ideas develop.

Chapters

There's a lot to get excited about on the surface, so you can get really into the technical details and the beauty of the paint and how it works and the colours. But also there's a great psychological element or a great sense of pathos, so you've got a real sense of, you know, what it is to be a human being, what it feels like to be alive. The other thing is a kind of waiting that I've just had to get used to for an idea to emerge and to stick.
