Commentators break down a police traffic stop where an officer forcibly removes a woman from her car despite her repeated pleas not to be touched. They argue the officer's escalation creates the resistance he then uses to justify the force, turning her fear into a charge against her.
Right now you're not listening. I was listening. I got my registration.
Right now you're not listening comes off as like, you're not doing what I told you to do. She's like, no, I'm listening. I have my stuff. But she probably doesn't understand why she's being asked to step out the vehicle.
Yes, ma'am. Please don't rip me out. Can I?
Yes, ma'am. Please don't rip me out. Look at the language. Please don't yank me out the car. Please don't put hands on me. Right? But the officer is insisting, so she must have told her to step out and she didn't really want to get out. Officers tend to escalate situations more than a person getting pulled over.
No, sit there. No, you tell me to stop. Can you stop, please?
Hey, what's probably going to happen, and I bet you, is that that little move right there when she tries to grab her, she's like, come on, can you stop, please? She's going to say that's where the girl resisted arrest. And that justified the way that they treated her.
Stop! What the fuck? She's pulling my hair! What the fuck? What the fuck? Look at this! I am! What the fuck? I already am! I already am!
So now you done snatched this girl out the car, traumatized her. Again, I don't know what happened before the camera came on. I don't know why she got pulled over. But does that even matter when it comes to how we treat each other? And the reason why I'm launching the Be Civil movement, because I want us to get in the habit. I want set a behavioral standard for humanity that no matter what's going on, can we be civil? Because this is somebody's daughter, somebody's sister, somebody's niece, and I wonder how they would feel if this was happening to their people. Help me mobilize the movement and spread the messaging that no matter the situation, we all need to just be civil.
