Breaking down why you struggle to make $10k monthly

Devon Canup breaks down the mindset shifts needed to hit $10k monthly income. He walks through his own journey, challenges beliefs that hold people back from wealth, and argues that most people fail because they won't commit fully to the work required.
It's pretty obvious why you're not making money yet and why you're not rich. I've talked to thousands of people, and I've helped thousands of people make their first $10,000 a month. And I've also seen a lot of people that haven't been able to do it. And it's pretty obvious the people that aren't able to do it. And while I'm out here in my Jacuzzi just hanging out, I just feel like recording the video for you guys. And the main thing is just the people that aren't making $10,000 a month don't really want it bad enough. Maybe they do want it, you know, but they don't like, want it want it. They don't like, it's. Their entire existence is making money and being able to get to success. And that's totally fair. It makes sense. A lot of us grew up with these beliefs that making money is bad, that, you know, getting rich is, you know, for people that are assholes and selfish and rich people are assholes. And it's just. It's the belief and the mindset that we grow up with that you're not supposed to really make that much money. And that's okay to have that belief. If you don't want to get rich, if you don't want to make a ton of money, but if you do want to get rich and you do want to make a ton of money, then you have to decide, you have to decide that it's time to finally actually get rich. And it's time to go all in and to believe that you are worthy and to believe that, you know, this sounds kind of gay, I guess, worthy, but to believe that you are, you know, somebody that should actually be able to get rich and make a ton of money. And I, for me, the longest time, it took me a long time to make my first $10,000 a month. I dropped out of college. I was going to school for computer science, and I made some money like flipping houses and real estate. But I decided to go all in on. On myself and getting rich, and I dropped out of college. And when I dropped out of college, I started trying to build a. I started doing a YouTube channel, and I started trying to figure out how more real estate and how to flip more properties. And in that process, I took me a long time. I was like slamming my head against the desk just trying to figure it out. I think I got to where I was making like 3, $4,000 a month pretty consistently after I Think it was like six months or so of like consistently like full effort in on this, not in college. And I was making like 3, $4,000 a month. It was enough to, to pay my life expenses. I was living out in Idaho. Rent was I think like $1200 a month at the. So probably if I were to go live there now It'd be like $2,000 a month. So I was pretty lucky. You know, I think that time when I got into it, like things weren't as expensive as they were today. But you know, I probably would have. I wouldn't have lived with my parents. I probably would have gone and found roommates or just not lived in as nice of a place if you got a little one bedroom apartment somewhere. And I just spent all day trying to, trying to figure out how to, how to get rich. That's, that was like my whole life. Well, that's, that's what I dedicated myself to in my life and my being to. And I was gonna do whatever it took to become rich and whatever it took to become wealthy and to Ultimately at first it was just make my first $10,000 a month. You know, it wasn't to think to buy necessarily extravagant things away right away. You know, I had my dream cars, I had, you know, the lifestyle that I wanted to live in nice houses and be able to go travel the world. Like I wanted those things. But it was like first I just, you know, I wanted to unlock that. I wanted to lock the. Unlock the ability to do whatever. So for me I didn't have that much expenses at. Then I essentially just started just. I don't know, there's like a switch that happened. There was like something inside of my being that just like realized that it was like, it was like a confidence thing. It was like I deserve being able to be at this point and I don't see a lot of that for all of you guys. I think, I think some people, they haven't, you know, they haven't earned the right to you know, make their first 10, 20, $30,000 a month. To make $100,000 a month. For me to make a hundred thousand dollars a month, it was just I had to become the person that was worthy of making 100,000 DOL. You know, it's like the whole Charlie Munger quote. The world's not a crazy enough place to reward a bunch of undeserving people. And ultimately most people, they just don't deserve to have what they want. They want the thing, but they want the six pack. But they don't want to hit the gym, they just want to go get the, the surgery so they can have a six pack. And so the question is, is like, are you wanting to get rich without becoming the person or doing the things or doing the activities or the repetitions to become rich? And so to get a six pack, you need to get your business six pack. You need to get your financial six pack. What the financial six pack comes from is just doing the work to become somebody to have the means to be able to get rich. For me now, it's pretty effortless to make money, or at least it's pretty effortless to make $100,000 a month. I could do not a whole lot and still do $100,000 a month at this point, because I have become, you know, mentally or knowledge wise, leveraged and strong enough, you know, let's say, you know, mentally strong enough or knowledge wise, skill wise, strong enough to just easily be able to make $100,000 a month. And so now for me to make a million dollars a month, it's a lot of effort. I guess I have to, like, not a lot of effort, but I have to become the person that is a million dollar a month person. That's kind of what I'm trying to do right now. And then it's to become a 4 million dollar a month person, $100 million a month, $100 million person, you know, mindset. And so for you, you're just trying to make your first 5, 10,000, 20,000, $30,000 a month right now. You got to put in the work, you got to do the things. I've worked for six years to get to this point. And it's pretty, it's pretty effortless for me to make money. And I used to look at the people that were in this position that I'm in now, and I used to be like, what the, what the hell are they doing? Like, how are they doing it? You know, like, it just, it didn't even make sense. It didn't even register in my brain how that was all even possible. And what kind of changed that? What reshaped that thought or that belief or that understanding of it was that they just did the work. I started to meet a lot of these people that were making a ton of money. And the difference of them was they just were doing the work extremely consistently, more consistently than I was. Just for a much longer period. I would meet these people and be like, how the hell did they do it? But then as I would talk and they Would kind of. Their story would unfold. It always just. They did it. It for a lot longer than. Than I had, like, significantly longer. And so question is like, you know, have. Have you been doing it long enough? Are you doing the right reps? Are you in the right boat as well? Are you doing the right things? You know, there's enough business models out there. Whether you do, you know, Shopify or YouTube or, I don't know, Amazon or SMMA or, you know, you become like a growth consultant or whatever it is, growth operator everyone's talking about these days, or a writer, a copywriter or a influencer. You're doing TikTok or you're doing TikTok shops or whatever. You're trading crypto or day trading stocks. All these, you know, inevitably you'll get. You'll get to where you're making $10,000 a month. I have many friends and all of those things that are making a lot of money. And so you just got to pick something and just dedicate your being to that. And then you have to have the conviction and the confidence in yourself. What got me the conviction, and I'll give that, give this to you guys as a blessing here is I just would. I would meet these people where I would watch these people that were making money online. I just thought they were like, honestly, like, they weren't that smart. I thought they were just like pretty normal people. And I thought the only difference between me and them was just they have the right business model and they just put in the effort. And other than that, I felt like I was the same person as them, if not, like, I felt like I was more capable than they were. You know, I knew that I went to college. I was able to have, like, I knew computer smarts. Like, I remember, like, meeting some people and realizing that they just weren't that smart. Like, and I think that's the thing. We, we think that, like, everybody's at a certain level, but in reality they're not. It's like, it's like wealth, you know, it's like if, if you like. In this lifestyle I live, I just think, like, everybody's rich at this point because it's just my environment now. I don't fully believe that because it's like I grew up in the other side of things where I didn't have a whole lot of money to my name and grew up with parents that were, you know, pretty middle class. They've been anywhere between lower and upper middle class my entire life. And I've seen them Kind of go through these different cycles. And when I was growing up, it just seemed everybody was kind of that. And then the people that were wealthy or rich, they just seem kind of like select few and stuff. And then the rich, you know, they see it as just, oh, everybody is rich, everybody's wealthy. Everybody applies a private jet or whatever. And so it's the same thing with your knowledge and the, the things that you know. It's just like you think that everybody knows what you know, but when you start meeting a lot of these people, especially millionaires, you start to realize that they don't really know what you know. A lot of times they probably know less than what you know. They just know how to do business. That's what they're good at. And maybe you probably are smarter than them in a lot of other departments, but they're just smarter in financial literacy or when it comes to business and when it comes to experience and, and understanding, like, how money works and mental models. And so you just, you got to develop the same mental models. You just got to go through the, through the same blueprint that they did. It wasn't that they went to college. It wasn't that they were, you know, that smarter. You just have to realize that they're the same as you. So that is how you develop the conviction that you are somebody that should be able to make a ton of money and you should build, Become rich is by realizing, like I said, that these other people aren't that much different than you. They're basically the same person. They're basically doing, you know, they're. You just, they've put a little bit more time into the business world, and if you realize that it's just a bunch of skill sets and knowledge and just becoming good at things and you'll become rich. You'll realize they're like, oh, it's not that hard for you to, to do that. So you just have to like, you know, I know when someone's. Why someone's not making ten grand a month, typically it's because they don't believe that they're. It's possible. And if they do believe it's possible, they just haven't put in the work and they just aren't deserving of making that much. They just haven't put in the time. Not people that have like, you know, already kind of developed the skill sets and they're just like, just, they just need a little bit more time and kind of playing with the dynamics of variables a little bit. They become rich pretty Quickly. So that's the thing is asking yourself, you know, do I really fully believe that I can make ten grand a month? If not, what do I got to do to do that? What do I have to. What do I have to become to. To make ten grand a month? Like, what. What confidence do I have? What type of self talk? What, what beliefs do I have to have? What type of person do I have to become? And then once you are able to articulate that and you're able to break it down, now you just got to work towards it. Now you just got to work rigorously every single day to become that person with all of your core belief, like, all of, like all of your every ounce of yourself into this effort of becoming this thing and realizing that when you do this, you may have to let go of some of the things of some of the versions of yourself that are. Some of the beliefs that are some of the. Some of the aspects of yourself that are. That don't really serve you anymore. And some of those things might consist of, you know, thinking that, like I said, rich people are assholes. If you think that it's going to be really hard to become rich because you think the only way to become rich at this point is to be an asshole. And it's like, oh, you start telling yourself, oh, I don't want to be an asshole. You know, so either you have to. You have to let that go or just be okay with being an asshole. For me, that's what I had to do. I was always afraid of hurting people's feelings. I was always afraid of being a douchebag because I was the byproduct of douchebags. I felt like I was the person that. I felt like I was getting bullied, and I didn't like how I felt, and I didn't want other people to feel that way. And so growing up, I had a tough time of, like, overcoming some of these beliefs because I realized that I, you know, I started to form a belief that, oh, I didn't want to be this thing, and I was so afraid of it. And maybe you have. That maybe you had someone that you met that was an asshole, that was rich, you know, and you tied the. You tied the two together. Maybe you had a family member, maybe it was your dad. You have to ask yourself, what, who was it? What is it? And then from there ask yourself, are you willing to let go of some of these beliefs to do whatever it takes for the overall mission? And you have to really challenge what are your values? What Are your ethics and finding where that line is of really, where. What is it that serves you and what doesn't serve you? You know, there's some ethics and values that I think truly do serve us, but then I also. They're in beliefs, but then there are a lot of them that don't serve us. And it's the decision of, like, okay, I am going to become this person. So I know I'm kind of talking very, like, philosophical, like, you know, things that just, like, aren't actual tactical, but these are like this, you know, this. This. This kind of belief that I'm kind of trying to curate you guys towards here is what a lot unlocked everything for me, which was, do I, Devon. Do I, Devon, cannot believe that I can make $10,000 a month. Do I believe I can make $10,000 this month? Yeah, I can. Okay, cool. Then it was, what's the math behind it? What do I gotta do to make $10,000 a month on YouTube? It was, I had to get, you know, 2 million views a month. If I got 2 million views a month, and I was probably making 10 grand a month, okay, so what do I got to do to make 2, like, 2 million views a month? I had to find other people that were making 2 million views a month. And so it was like, I could. I could break it down like that, and I can just. And then the other aspect of it was I just went all in on this person. Like, I went all in on. I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get 2 million views a month and do whatever it takes to become, you know, that person that's making $10,000 a month. And I feel like a lot of you guys, you're not willing to do whatever it takes. You say you are, you know, you buy the courses, you buy the programs, you hire the mentors, but you don't do the things. You don't take the actions as to what it would take to become this. This, like, to become this person. So that's the other question. It's just like, are you willing to do whatever it takes? Are you willing to put in the work? Are you willing to take the steps? Are you willing to do the thing to become wealthy and to become rich and to. And to. And to make, you know, whatever it is, your first $10,000 a month? And then it's the same thing to. Then it becomes like, wait, it becomes steps. And Maybe it's like, $10,000 a month is, you know, a little bit distant. Maybe it's like, you Got to do your first dollar. You know, you got to make a first dollar online. And then it's like, okay, can I make my first hundred dollars? Can I make my first thousand dollars? Can I make my first two, $3,000? Can I make my first $10,000? And it's just going through that kind of escalation process. And a lot of you guys maybe already have a job, you've already made some money, or you're already making money continuously every single month. And now it's just, you have to take that security and that comfort and sacrifice it and build something for yourself off, like on your own and away from somebody else and from something else. And so then it's a matter of, are you willing to, like, how much comfort? Are you willing to sacrifice for your future self? You know, comfort is one of those drugs that it forces us into being a person that is a fractional of what we are entirely. Being comfortable robs our future self and robs our potential and what things can become. And so are you cool with that? Are you comfortable with that? If you are, that's cool. Good for you. Good luck. If something happens in your life. But if you're somebody that you know, you like, if you believe that you're made for something greater in this life, which, if you're watching this video and you've made it this far, at this point, I believe that you're made for something. If you're watching some dude shirtless in a hot tub his backyard with probably some pretty bad audio quality, talking about how to make your first $10,000 a month, then I believe that. I believe that you are somebody that's, that's capable of this. And I believe that you're made for something, like, way greater in this life. And so if you have that belief which I'm giving it, I'm bestowing it upon you at this point, then what you need to ask yourself is, why am I so comfortable? Why am I so okay with things not changing? Why am I, you know, why. Why am I sack? Why am I giving up this opportunity of this era that's in front of us for the legacy of our name, the legacy of our family, the safety of our future family, the safety like the, the gift of the future generations. Why am I being so comfortable? And why am I giving up what is made for those people? And that's a question for you to ask yourself, like, why are you so comfortable? Is it the fact that it's just easy? Is it the fact that you've never faced adversity in your life. Because if you're like me, you know, I face comfort. And I had a tough time with it, I'll be honest. But growing up, I played sports. My dad always believed that me and my siblings, we always had to play sports. And it didn't matter what we did, but we had to do something. We had to do some sort of sport. So for me, it was playing baseball. And for me, I tried, like, I had to always be great at whatever it was that I did. That was my one. That was my. Everyone's like around me is one rule, you know, if I was gonna be. If I was gonna play the trumpet, awesome, cool. I just gotta be the best trumpet player in the world. If it was gonna be baseball, which is what it was for me, I had to be the best baseball player in the world. That's what it. That's what it was. I had to. I had to be the best. And so if you had that belief, like, if you were taught that, then why aren't you applying that right now to your. To your financial career? Why aren't you becoming the best at whatever it is that you're doing the best at YouTube or becoming the best at, you know, making, like, just making your first $10,000 a month and whatever it is that you're doing your first agency or your e commerce store or whatever, your copywriting business? Why aren't you applying those same exact things that you grew, like you grew up with, with sports and what your parents told you, your family told you, your friends, your coaches told you. Why aren't you applying that to. To business and to your lifestyle? I think your future self would thank you if you did. If you did whatever it takes. Your current self might hate you a little bit, but fuck your current self. They're unhappy, they're dissatisfied, They're. They're tired of watching life just move on past without them. They're tired of not being anything in the world. They're tired of being nothing and not mattering. They want to matter. They. They want to have a purpose in this world. They want to have, like, a reason for being. Instead of just being some nothingness. And so if that's you, if that. That speaks to you and that resonates with you, the Myron should. Why aren't you doing something about it? And to. Furthermore, if you haven't been doing something about that and you haven't been applying that to. To the person that you're becoming and it's been getting in the way and you've been too comfortable. It's time to change. It's time to change that. It's time to change that direction that you're. That you're headed. It's time to ask yourself, I know it's kind of scary, like this person that I'm becoming, but would you rather be fearful of this greatness that you're becoming? Or would you rather be fearful of the dangers that come if you don't become the best version of yourself? And also the laying on the deathbed of regrets of knowing that you could have been so much more and not even tapping into a fraction of who that being or who that person is?
