Master of Locking In, Delusional Self Belief, Art of Shutting Up

Three mindsets for entrepreneurial success: locking in on high-leverage work, maintaining delusional self-belief through hardship, and shutting up to learn from mentors. The creator shares how he went from credit-card debt to half-million-dollar annual revenue using faceless YouTube channels, TikTok, and weekly webinars.

This video we're going to cover three things. Mastering the art of locking in, delusional self belief, and the art of shutting up. So I've been liking this video series today. Smoking a cigar and I'm building this Droid Lego set. Fun stuff. Okay? So I'm gonna be building some Legos while we're japping about this stuff. So you need to lock in, young fella. Sound like an old guy. I'm like 27. Locking in really is the secret to success. Someone's calling me right now. If. If we all know, like every single year we need to lock in, we need to like, go into Monk mode. We need to do these things that's going to allow us to finally do the work that we know we need to do to provide value to some society. So that way we can get paid in ridiculous proportions to the work that we put in, so that way we can ultimately live our dream life. And it's just like crazy cycle. All the self improvement gurus, they got like, monk mode, they got like, lock in, they got whatever, you know, grind it out. Dark mode, no fat mode. I don't know, they come up with some weird stuff these days. But the other day, it's no secret that you have to do. You have to work for long amounts of hours in order to achieve anything that's worthwhile. But at the end of the day, 95% of people have a tough time locking in like Gen Z. But it's not just Gen Z, it's everybody. You know, everybody has a tough time focusing and paying attention. You're on X right now. You're like, claude, but I gotta build a Claude butt or I need to. I need. Are you. Did you see what this new, like, AI update and you're listening to all these, like, different AI podcasts and stuff, it really is just a big, huge circle jerk of, of information of people like, yeah, I need to do, you know, be a part of this thing. And there's just wicked amounts of FOMO right now. And so our attention is just everywhere. It's just, it's just everywhere. There's so much dopamine, there's so many new things to jump into. And then in reality, people just are coming up with a bunch of reasons to do absolutely nothing and be insanely unproductive, trying to find things that are just, you know, they're hoping for it to be like a means to an end. When in reality, as soon as it starts getting hard after like two months, they then give up on it and then Move on to the next thing. And so there's four pillars, four steps to locking in and becoming somebody who's able to make tons of money. Like today I think I've made. Let's see, how much money have I made today so far? I don't know, probably more than a couple grand. And what did I do today? I did a drive. I drove for like two or three hours today along the beach and the highway. And then I had a couple calls real quick. And then here I am sitting down finally to enjoy a nice cigar and play with some Legos. Yeah, I made $7,000 today. Okay, so just today alone on one of my businesses, I made $7,000 this year. I've crossed a half a million dollars so far. We're finishing the second month and I don't necessarily have to stare at blue light and incandescent light bulbs all day in my parents basement trying to build some cloba. Like I don't have a Claude bot. I don't, I'm sorry, I. I don't have a clod bot. I just have the discipline of being able to learn, lock in on the things that actually matter, the things that are actually important. And so it allows me to make any amount of money that I want to make. Like I can play with Legos type of money. Right. And so it boils down to the four levels of mastering locking in, which first of all, the first stage of mastery is understanding that you don't know what you don't know. You don't know that you need to lock in. You don't know that, like you suck at locking in. And all of these things online are a distraction of the whole concept of like you need to lock in. Because in order to build anything meaningful right now, to ship anything meaningful, especially with all these new updates and all these new AI stuff for all these nerds right now you have to lock in to take advantage of it. There is a lot of use cases that are up and coming, there's a lot of money to be made, and there's a lot of distraction too at the same time. So how do you filter through the noise? Well, immediately you're gonna realize that you need to lock in and you need to like focus on something on one thing. Because if your attention is all over the place, you're never gonna build anything that's worthwhile. If I have like my attention on 50 different things, then I'm not gonna be able to build this LEGO set, you know, if I'm constantly smoking my cigar, whatever like you have to understand the rhythm of it. I could be doing five different things. I'm recording this video, I'm smoking a cigar, I'm taking notes, I'm building Legos, I'm doing things over here on my iPad all at the same time. It's because I know that flow, that state of unconscious mastery of being able to lock in on whatever it is. So you start to realize that you consciously suck at locking in. It's a second stage. You consciously suck at locking in on the things that you do. And so you realize that there's an improvement that needs to be made. And this is when you start watching maybe some self help videos. You start going down the pathway of like watching how to lock in and, and you're thinking of moving to Bali, Indonesia or something. So that way you can go do some sort of weird rent out Airbnb with 10 other dudes. So that way you guys can all lock in. But it's the first epiphany is that you suck at locking in. And then what happens? You start watching all these videos, you start watching all this different content and then you realize that, you know, there's, there's things you can do to actually improve your locking in, your ability to lock in. A lot of it's going on a dopamine detox. A lot of it's to stop watching the news, A lot of it's to eat healthier, A lot of it's to put yourself into better environments. And a lot of it's like neurochemical programming to make it so it's just inevitable that you're able to lock in on things. And then what happens is you get to a stage like me, where you've watched all the videos, you've tried trying to figure out all the different ways of locking in. And then what happens is you just realize all of its bs, all of it's stupid. You take all the cold showers, you wake up at 5am, you wake up at 6am and you realize all of like, it gets to a certain point where you're like spending three hours out of your day just doing all these things just to lock in, realizing they do actually nothing for you. And then you realize, like, I love Alex Ramosi's perspective. He's just like, dude, I literally just wake up, I get coffee and I sit down at my desk and I work. And then when I'm tired, I stop working, right? And that's kind of the phase that I'm at now, this point where it's just Like I, I work when I work and when I'm. When there's nothing else to work on, I stop working. Like, I only work on it unless it's like actually important. Like if it's actually necessary, if it's actually worthwhile to, to do the thing to, to put in the time. Otherwise I'm just like, why am I doing this thing? Is it going to make me more money? Is it going to like. And I don't even think about it that way anymore. It's like, is this necessary for growth or is it just redundant friction? And if anything, I just try to keep my plate as empty as possible. Like, literally, my calendar today was nothing. There was nothing on my calendar today. It's Monday. And what did I do? I went on a walk on a beach. Oh, I walked on the beach this morning too. I always try to keep my calendar as empty as possible. So that way, when something is actually important, like I need to go record a bunch of ads, I need to record a bunch of content, I need to take advantage of an opportunity that's just once in a lifetime that's right in front of me, I can actually go all in without even like having to sacrifice anything. Like, I just, I have the availability for it. So instead what I try to do is I leave my calendar as open as possible. I have a few disciplines. Like, I need to have a certain amount of output and then that's pretty much it. And that is what allows me to make 300 grand a month. The reason being the thing that these people don't tell you, all these quadbot people that can just drop 100 grand on a bunch, a bunch of Mac Minis is, that's how they are too, is most of these people, they sold a company for $10 million. They have a bunch of cash laying around or, and they can go mess around on all this stuff or they already have a business that's doing hundreds of thousands a month or millions of dollars a month. And this is just like a little side project for them to see if they can find efficiencies in their business. And it's kind of like their own personal endeavor for fun. Yet a lot of people are thinking this is the fix all to everything. Like this is going to finally, we can finally get rich. You know, there's a winter lock in boys. We can finally do all these things and stop wasting our time and finally to live this life that we want to live. So the goal really is, is to become unconsciously competent at locking in unconsciously good at doing the things that will achieve the result. And really what it boils down to is try all the hacks, watch all the videos, do all the different stuff, realize how meaningless it all is. You, there's only a few principles that really matter when it comes to locking in is doing hard things. When you do hard things regularly, you stop thinking about doing hard things. It just becomes your life. You just are a person that does hard things. When you're just normally used to just running all the time, going on 10 mile runs and jumping on meetings for five hours straight, or speaking live in front of a thousand people for twice a week for three to four hours at a time, you don't think about locking in. You don't think about all this work you have to do to lock in. It just is your life at a certain point where you just show up and you just make a ton of money and you just get results and you don't even really try to lock in. And that's really the goal is you just want to set it up so you have an environment around you that's able to lock in. So how do you do this? How do you lock in? You have to figure out the strategy to getting you there. What's the vehicle that actually will get you to the goals that you want? Okay, so for me, at the beginning, I'm always like, lock, like do whatever it takes to make 30k a month. Because as soon as you get to 30k a month, everything is unlocked. Life unlocks, you're able to go on those trips, you're able to stay at badass airbnbs, you're able to spend any amount of money without having to have a boss like breathe down your neck. You're not a wage slave anymore. Your life gets significantly better once you make 30k a month. So then the next step just becomes, how do you make 30k a month? Go find an actual strategy. Is there a mentor? Is there a blueprint? Is there a course you can buy? Is there a process that you can follow? Go do that. Okay, don't. I'm not trying to sell you guys anything in here. Okay? Like, I really don't, like, I'm just trying to document while I play with some Legos. Okay, how can you go ahead and basically like, what are the ways that people are making money out there? What's the strategies? What's the work? What's the thing that will make you the money? I'll tell you, because I made a bunch of money with building faceless YouTube channels. You need to hire good video ideas and freelancers. If you do those two things really well, you put 100 hours into each of those. You should have a Facebook YouTube channel that's printing you money. So you figure out what is the work that gives you the result with the way of making the money and then. Then figure out how to just do that thing really well every single day. You already talked to 50 freelancers today. Cool. Chill. You're done working today. Cool. That's it. You locked in. You already did your job. Sometimes it takes you one hour. Sometimes it takes you 30 minutes. Sometimes it takes you 10 hours. I never do anything based on time. It's a detachment. If you really want to lock in and achieve anything that you want in life, you don't attach a time into anything. I don't document how many hours I put into my time because no one pays for my time. No one gives a shit about how much time I put into things. All that people care about is how quality the product is. You guys care about this video being good in the sense that, like, does it deliver you value? And I try to strip everything away. Like, I have a beautiful ocean view in front of me and I just. I choose not to have it as the background because it just isn't really what I want this channel to be about. I don't really want it to be about pretty backgrounds or anything like that. I instead want it to be about what is this step? This is an interesting step of this doesn't make any sense. All right. Instead, I want it to be about how do we create worthwhile information, have information that's interesting, worthwhile stuff that like good ideas. And as long as I keep learning, the content inevitably is going to get better. As I keep watching the videos, the content's inevitably going to get better. As I keep making videos, the content is inevitably going to get better. And all you care about really is do you receive value at the end of this? Got a little thumbs up on screen. Do you. Do you really care about the value? Like does. Is. Is there something that you learned from this content? Yes. Cool. You'd find it valuable. The videos will get millions of views. If you guys don't find it valuable, the content won't give views. And that keeps it really simple. It keeps it really black and white. It keeps it really chill. Like it literally, it produces the result that we're looking for. So you have to figure out what's the thing that gets the value and then detach yourself from anything that isn't. Is Just a complete waste of your time. And so how to really articulate this? I spent like four months in Europe, and I actually just quit working for four months. You guys may have seen me a lot less than me lately. The reality is it's just like I quit, like, putting in so many hours into my businesses, and yet during those times, I actually ended up making more money than I've ever made before. And it made me realize it's just like, if you just put in time into the few things that make you the most amount of money, that's really all that matters. That's all that does. Like, all that matters at all, if you can focus on the few things that will actually get you the most outsized returns. So for me, it was making TikToks and it was to do webinars once a week. That was it. And if I locked in on those two things, I would be able to create generational wealth. And I did. So then it's just really all about, like, how do you find that thing once you find it? Mastering the art of the locking in. Try everything. Try everything out. Some of it will work, some of it won't work. Find out what's for you. Find out what's B.S. by the way. You know, I'm like eight, nine years into all this. Okay, so nine years into building businesses, you eventually kind of figure out what actually matters in business and what doesn't. And time will eventually turn you into a black belt. You'll probably have so many moments where you run out of money. You'll have so many times where it's like, really hard, it's really difficult. And those are the times where you get to really learn the skill sets. And then eventually, when you've gone through a lot of hardship, you'll find the things that work for you specifically. Does that make sense? Okay, I'm trying not to be too high in the sky, but I'm trying to really pass the essence over to you guys. Drop it in the comments. What think do you guessing. Okay, I want this to be interactive. I want this to feel like we're on some random FaceTime call with some dude playing the Legos, and he's really rich and he teaches you all of the the secrets to the universe. All right, so the next thing is the the art of delusional self belief. I love this formula to success, which is talent. Oh, let me actually pull it up. I don't want to ruin this. I just saw this. It is the success matrix. Is this luck times hard work? Equals success. So if you work really hard, you're really good at being able to lock in on the things that matter the most. And you put a lot of hours into it. Inevitably you'll capture luck. Inevitably you'll find the 80, the 20 that generates the 80. And then you find the 20 that generates the 80 of the 20 that generates the 80. So you find eventually like what's the 4% that generates the 96%? You have to try a bunch of stuff out. And here's the thing, it's like when you believe deep down to your core that you were meant to do whatever it is that you're pursuing, you will achieve it. That happens with every sort of like there was this, there's this thought that like the humans, if they ran faster than a 4 minute mile or if they ran a 4 minute mile, then their bodies would explode because nobody had ever done it before. For years people would get really close to that 4 minute mile and they thought that just humans would explode. Then there was one time there was this guy, his name was Roger Bannister, who I think he was like a medical student. He ended up like realizing that there is a possibility to run a four minute mile if you were just a little bit more efficient with how you ran. And he ended up breaking that 4 minute mile. He ran like a 3 minute and 59 second mile. And as soon as he broke it the 4 minute mile, then all of a sudden I think it was 23 other guys in the next month ran a four minute mile. And it all just came from this one person who believed that they could actually run a four minute mile. Ran a four minute mile. And it changed everything in the, in the, in the art of running. Now all these people believe that was possible. This guy that really shouldn't be able to run a four minute mile ran the four minute mile. And here was everybody now all of a sudden, because one guy did it running four minute miles, I did this backwards. All because one guy did it. It's the same with so many things in life. It's like it's the same with business success, it's the same with life success. It's the same with your own success is you're delusional enough to be able to go around the four minute mile to go make 30 grand a month to go change your life. You will do it. You will figure it out. You'll find the strategies that make it possible. You'll do the work that makes it possible. You'll block out the haters that Think it's not possible and inevitably you'll run your own four minute mile. And yet most people, they let society dictate their ability to go run the four minute mileage and they'll tell them it's not possible. So if you listen to the naysayers, if you listen to the haters, if you listen to the people who aren't even in the space to even know anything, you always just get a slew of bad advice, bad programming, and things that just hold you back. Ultimately in life, I delusionally believe that I could get rich. I'm not. You're gonna listen, you're gonna realize, like listening to me talk that I'm like, not necessarily that smart of a guy. Okay, I am smart in a lot of ways, but I'm also really dumb. And in a lot of ways. Oh, that's pretty cool. Check this out. It like you can move it cool. But in reality, all that I did is I just like just kept showing up. I kept showing up, I kept failing. I, I ran out of money. I think 100 times. I'm somebody. Like, I got to the point where I had $80,000 in credit card debt, I was negative $3,000 in my bank account, and I. Drove a $100,000 car and I lived in a four million dollar house. Not four million dollar house, sorry, two million dollar house. And I really had no idea what I was doing for many, many. Actually years. A couple of years I did this for. It was insanely stressful. There were so many times I went into the pantry and found that I had some ramen in there. All the while my business would make like 20, 30 grand a month. And I was just always on the edge of just like losing it all. But I always believed that it was possible. My parents thought I was crazy. My dad thought I was crazy. He's like, are you serious? You're just gonna keep going? Like every time I talk to you, you're always like, you think you figure it out and then you like run out of money. I was like, dad, I'm gonna figure this out. I just had this insane delusional every delusion, every thought. Everybody thought I was crazy. Everybody thought I was like clinically insane. But it's when you just keep showing up, even when everybody thinks that you're clinically insane, that's when the magic happens. That's when the thing like the results that you shouldn't be getting started resulting, and that's when your life entirely changes, is when you just keep going and you Just keep believing that you can do it. People are going to think you're crazy. But eventually something pays off. Eventually learn some new tactic that gives you some huge insane competitive advantage. Eventually you find eventually the tides become easier. Eventually luck just kind of catches up with you. And I knew that. I knew that like me pushing through all those hard times, eventually I'd get lucky. The worst is like, you see all these crypto bros, for the longest time, they make millions of dollars and they didn't know anything other than they just bought some Pooh Coin or something like that. And then they just think that they know like the, the strategies of how to make millions of dollars. A lot of those people are, are sadly in worse positions than before. They made the millions of dollars because they made a bunch of money. The worst thing is when you make a bunch of money and then you lose all that money, you make a bunch of money that you didn't deserve and then you lose all of it. And then now you have to live a lifestyle knowing what is possible and not making that amount of money anymore. So it's actually better to go through hard times. It's actually better to go through a bunch of trials and tribulations. It's actually better to have a bunch of setbacks in life because then when you achieve success, when you have some luck work on your side, you'll eventually be able to have that luck. And, and then you know how to maintain the luck. You know, know how to maintain the momentum. You know what to do, how to value that opportunity. You know that when Pooh coin is trading and you can make stupid amounts of money with it, you, you turn it into a even bigger return or you even take that money and invest it into a smart business that's able to then actually keep making you more and more money. And you take advantage of this luck that you were gifted in life because you worked hard for it and you feel like you deserve it. And when you feel like you deserve it, you take advantage of it more. I remember when I went viral on TikTok. Most people, they go viral on TikTok and don't make that much money. And they just think that they made it in life when in reality they can almost. People on TikTok and these different platforms really struggle to pay bills. When I blew up on TikTok, I knew that I had the opportunity of a lifetime. I knew that I could use that to go on a generational run. So what did I do? I ended up turning my tick tock blow up into I generated like I think now a million dollars off Tick Tock in the last like nine months, ten months. What do I talk about in the videos? You should get low key rich, bro. You should go make a ton of money, get low key rich and yeah, stuff like that. At that time I had a company that was already able to help people go completely change their lives. And so I was like, here you guys go, go sign up for this. What happened was I got more freaking sales than ever before and my life completely changed. Started making like half a million dollars a month because I had this opportunity that was very lined up already there. I already did all the hard work. Then when the luck came, I got to it. Actually take advantage of the opportunity. So do the hard thing. Be delusional. Know that eventually some random way it'll work out. That was the same when it came to YouTube channels. I would watch. I would watch YouTube every single day. I'd make YouTube videos every single day. I kind of was bad at it. But then eventually I was on YouTube one day I came across these Reddit videos that were making like $20,000 a month. And I started, I was like, wow, these look pretty easy to make. So I started making my own. And the third month of me doing it, I made $42,000 making these stupid Reddit videos. Just some random opportunity fell on my lap of making these Reddit YouTube videos. And I already knew how to make YouTube videos at that point. Like, at least I knew the basics, like only making like a couple grand a month. And my income literally shot from $3,000 a month to $42,000 a month. Because I was ready to take advantage of the opportunity. Because I knew delusionally one day those skills would serve me. I knew that eventually the opportunity would fall in my lap. You may not understand why you're doing what you're doing right now. You may not have a use case for everything that you're. But eventually you might. And when you're delusional of who you're going to become, the stars will align. You'll meet the people who are living that life that you want to live. You'll find the information that's applicable to you that will actually change your life and you'll actually take advantage of it. So be delusional, because you never know when your time is actually going to come. And you get to go on that generational run. And the next one is the art of shutting up. So a lot of you guys in the comments probably have all sorts of stuff to say Right now, some of you love me, some of you admire me, some of you think I'm sexy. Some of you really don't like me. And that's okay. But the main thing is, is if somebody is where you want to be in life and they're giving you the information you need to really learn how to shut up. I had this mentor that I called one time in this time when I was, like, really struggling to make payroll and run my businesses and companies. And I was just kind of really eating a lot of shit. And I called him and asked him for help. I don't have any money. I would tell him, like, I'm sure, like, I'm struggling and I don't know what I'm doing. And he would give me advice. He's like, devin, well, did you do this? What about this? I was like, I know. I know this. He would tell me a bunch of information that's like, I've heard before. Yet I was the one calling him about this situation I was in. And it got to the point. His name was Lincoln. Eventually got to the point where he's like, okay, cool. All right. Sounds like you got everything figured out. Good luck. I was like, no, that's why I'm calling you is because I don't have everything figured out. I'm trying to figure this out. He's like, well, every time I tell you anything you say, I know you don't listen to me. He's like, what's the point of giving you any advice or information if you already know everything and you're just not somebody who's willing to learn? And that's the day that I learned the lesson of shutting up. That's the day that I realized that I should stop trying to pretend like I know everything. But instead the reality of, like, if you're talking to somebody who's where you want to be, or they have the information, or you come to them for help, come with an empty cup, because they obviously know something you don't. Even if you've heard some of the information, it's like you don't actually know the information. If you're. If you're running into these problems, you're always going to run into the same problems over and over again until you actually figure it out. I believe that life will just keep running, giving you the same problems over and over and over again until you figure out how to solve those problems. And so if you can, then have the humility to listen to people who have overcome what you're going through. You will then finally get the answers that you're looking for and you will finally make the progress. And a lot of times the answers that you're looking for aren't what you're expecting. A lot of times we want financial advice or we want some sort of like specific game plan, but in reality, a lot of times we don't actually need that. Sometimes it's just our systems are broken. Sometimes our mental processes, like our mental models are broken. Sometimes the way that we think about money, sometimes the way that we think about a problem is what's broken. Maybe you're actually like pretty much 90% the way there. And sometimes it's just like there's just 10% of things that you're doing is wrong and is broken and is why you're not making the amount of money you want to make or the change that you want to have in life. And the amount of times I made like some little small tweak in how I do things, how I show up, how I talk to people, how I say hello, how I show up in my day to day life, that then the results change entirely. Now, instead of having a failing business, my business is insanely profitable and insanely successful because they just change up one little way of doing things. And a lot of times it's always the basics. It's always the basics that we're missing. It's always the things that we've probably heard a thousand times that we're just not fully implementing into our lives as to why we're not successful. And it's when we do the basics right once and for all, that then just everything comes in waves. Then all the results come, then all the fame comes and all the success comes, and all the money comes in droves because you finally figured out the basic things of how you're doing things right? So that's why you need to shut up. That's why when you ask for help or you ask for advice, or you ask a question to the universe, to God, or to a mentor, you just listen. And the power of listening is insane. So many people just don't know how to listen. And when you learn how to shut up and when you learn how to actually listen to people that have been where you want to be in life, that's when everything comes. That's when the life that you've been looking for this whole time finally falls into your lap. It's not from that, you know, special secret that you don't know a lot of times. It's just the simple stuff. It's a simple answer that is the answer to most of our problems, which sucks. You know, it's like we always want to be some special snowflake. We always want to have some sort of like it always be like something that's like nobody ever thought of. But in reality, most answers to our problems and the secrets in life just come from the simplistic answer. So learn how to shut up. Anyways, I think I got some good progress on this video. My laptop died or my iPad died for the LEGO set and I feel like we cover a good amount of ground. So I've been enjoying making these videos. This one was. It felt a little bit chaotic, but it's okay. We grow and we iterate and we learn from our, from our mistakes, from our failures, and from our day to day life. So let me know what you guys think. Sometimes I know what I'm talking about, sometimes I don't. I hope I want this to be a combination of like, what the hell is this? But also a combination of, damn, I can finally fully receive this information because this guy actually knows what he's talking about. It hits different. I hear some of the things that I've already heard a thousand times, but it just like totally registers in the brain different because I want to see you guys get richer.
