I'll never let social media waste my time again

A speaker calculates how much time they've lost to social media and measures whether it's worth the cost. They push back on mindless scrolling and ask what you're actually getting from the hours you spend on your phone.
So that we got, ladies and gentlemen, in our hands. A beautiful day out here in Puerto Rico. But in this video, I'm going to talk about one of the biggest waste of times that I ever had. The thing that made me a ton of money, that helped me make a ton of money and am now making multiple millions of dollars a year and honestly started to help me set up for success. Because if you're like me, I got to the point where I just had enough and my light's kind of getting in the camera here a little bit. I got to the point where I had enough. Like, I was sick and tired of my current life. I was sick and tired of letting life happen to me and being in the backseat of a car that's taking me to my destination in life and not getting into the driver's seat of my own life and not having any control and just letting life happen to me. And so once I understood this concept, I never used social media again. I decided to never waste my time ever again. And I decided to start really building my own life and to start becoming, taking control of my life again. Instead of becoming actor number, you know, whatever, Chef number three in my own the story of my movie of my life, instead I became the main character of my own life and I took back control. And so what I want you to do is I want you to do a couple of things with me inside this video. I wanted to, you guys love actionable advice. You guys loved hearing me. But I also, I'm going to give you guys some actionable advice. So I want you to on your phone, I want you to go into the settings of it and then kind of cheating there a little bit. But go into the settings and then there'll be this thing called screen time. So go to this thing called screen time and I want you to open that up. And so what you will do is you will see the amount of screen time that you've had on your device. So for me, the daily average is about four, like just a little bit under four hours. And I was looking at this, it looks like, you know, the week before four hours. The week before four hours. Four hours. They say like the average Gen Z, it's pretty bad. I think it's like six or eight hours or something like that you watched on this video might be kind of embarrassing but, you know, so you want to figure out what is that amount of time and then what you want to do is you want to do the math. So if we do the math on that, if we're doing, let's say we'll do an easy one like four hours. So if we do four hours times 365, which is the amount of days in the year, that brings us to about 1500. So multiply this by let's say the average life expectancy is 72. Let's say that you start. You know what I would do is just take the age that you have left minus 72, so I'm 25. If 72, like if I subtract 72 minus 70, 75, then let me do that real quick. 72 minus 25. So that's 47 years. So multiply 47 times 1460. So if I were to keep spending four hours a day on my phone, then that brings me to about 70,000 hours that I'm going to spend on my life on my phone. And then if you divide that by the amount of years, so then what we would do is divide like to find out how much of our life that is. If we divide that by 24, which is 24 hours in a day divided by 365 days in a year. So I'm going to spend about eight years of my life on this planet out of the next, the rest of my life, the next 47 years, eight years of it is going to be on my phone, on my mobile device, just my phone, that's not including my laptop or anything like that. So then the question you want to ask yourself, which especially if you're an eight hour person, yours is going to be double that. So that's going to be like 16 years of the 47 years of your life if you're an 8 hour a day person on my device. And so the question I need to ask myself is, are those, are those hours worth it? When I am 70 years old and I reflect, this is a question I want you to ask yourself is if my 70 year old version was here right now and he knew that I was spending seven years or whatever it comes out to seven years, eight years of my life on my phone, would he want to strangle me and choke me and be like, no, you idiot, or would be like, okay, cool, that was worth it. Like that was worth the time. That's the question. Is that 70 year old version of myself, what would they think of that? And especially you want to ask yourself, what are the apps that you're using? For me, let's say like this week I have used out of The however many 22 hours on my phone, it was like five and a half hours on Twitter, it was four and a half hours. On YouTube, it was two hours just checking the results on my YouTube channels. So that was, you know, a good amount of that. And then it was an hour on slack and an hour on notes. So actually, my. And then, like, on Instagram, it was only like 45 minutes out of the 20 hours. So. So my stats, besides the. The Twitter and the YouTube stats, I would say it's like, not too bad. Like, I'm not bad. I used to my. I used to look at mine, and it used to have, like, eight hours a day on it. But if I do the math, like, I have this app that actually, that tracks how much money I make off of, like, each of these apps that I use. So let's see. I'm pulling this up right here. If I look at whatever the last year. So off of. Let's just say Twitter alone, I have generated. Let's see. It's right here. No, that's the math. Okay, so just off of Twitter alone, I've made whatever $330,000 off Twitter, and then off of YouTube, I made 250,000. So I'm throwing a curveball here. You guys probably expect that. So for me, I can kind of justify that. I can justify that. Like, if I can continually make. I don't know, I was, on average making, like, when I was really on it, like, $50,000 a month. Let's just average, like $20,000 a month, then I would do the math there. So if inst. Like, if YouTube, like, what did I say? Five and a half hours. So if I'm on Twitter, let me look at last week, because this week I was kind of busy. Last week, I was on Twitter for eight hours. So if I do the math there eight times, whatever it is, like, 4.5 weeks a month. So that comes out to 36 hours a month on Twitter. So if I take the math of if I'm making, you know, let's say 20. Let's say 25,000. I like that number. So if I do $25,000 a month off of Twitter, divide that by 36. So me spending my time on Twitter is worth about $700 an hour. So then the question I have to ask myself is, is that worth it? So then you have to ask yourself, how much are you making from Twitter? If Your number is 0, why the fuck are you on the app? Like, what's the point of being on this thing? It doesn't make any sense. You know, like this at least. Okay, 700 do dollars an hour. The question I have to ask myself is like, is that worth it? To me, is seven. Like, is it worth 700 an hour to be on Twitter? And I would say at this current stage of my life, you know, I want to be above a thousand dollars an hour. I haven't, like, actually done the math in a little bit of, like, what my time is worth. I could do that really quickly. So I don't know how many business days there are a year, but it's ultimately just doing the math. And I'm kind of doing this with you guys. I'm going through this exercise with you. This is just raw, like, doing the math with you. So 250 times 8. So there's like, let's say 2000 working hours normally a year. So if I'm making $3 million a year divided by the 2000 working hours, so my time is worth about $1500 an hour is kind of like that calculate time. So either I got to figure out how to become more effective on Twitter or, like, be more productive. So there are some, like, inefficiencies there essentially, or I need to find a way to put my. My time into something else, you know. So that would be kind of the math. If I'm worth fifteen hundred dollars an hour, then the question is, is, does that, like, does that thing produce the result that is worthwhile or is it actually taking more time out of the day than it is? But I will say that, you know, there is definitely, like, maybe the last couple of months on Twitter, I haven't been as, like, effective on the strategy. I've been trying different things out. So the number is kind of like a lot less than normal. I would say. Normally it's at that $50,000 a month range. So in that, in that sense, it, you know, I'd be making whatever double 700. So I'd be right around like 1500 dollars an hour, 1400 dollars an hour if I put in that amount of time. So then as soon as I realize that is, like, what is the actual ROI of me getting from this thing? Is it worth my time? Now, obviously, I wasn't always making money off of social media, and I had to kind of get to that place. But then what I had to start doing was then start calculating, you know, what is my time worth? It wasn't always whatever, you know, a thousand dollars an hour, 15 hours, $700 an hour. In reality, at the beginning, it was like I would make, let's say, a hundred. Like I would make $100 in a month. And then I would do the math of how much time I actually put into it. And I was making like 30 cents an hour when it actually came down to it. But then if I just looked at, okay, I'm making 30 cents an hour here, but then I could go get paid $20 an hour ago working over here, I, I would be missing out on the opportunity cost of said thing. So if, you know, I may get paid 30 cents an hour right now we're doing YouTube channels, but there's no really income ceiling on it. I can go make a hundred thousand dollars a month and which at that point then my time is worth whatever that comes out to $500 an hour. And so if my time can become worth $500 an hour, yeah, maybe you might be getting paid 30 cents an hour at the moment, but you have the ability to get there. So that's kind of like a mathematical process there. What I will say is, as soon as I like just applying logic to the thing and asking myself is, does this make sense? Am I getting an ROI on my time or am I just scrolling and just wasting time? And then the question is, which is fine? Like I think it's okay to watch shows on Netflix, I think it's okay to watch Hulu, I think it's okay to watch sports, I think it's okay to do brain numbing things that just like make it so you don't have to think. I think that's good. I think all of us need that. But the question then is, is that worth it to me? Like, is it, is it healthy for me to do the brain numbing? You know, is like, am I just ending? Am I spending whatever it is, let's say like 20 hours a week on social media. And at that point I'd start to question, is that, does that align with your goals? Does it align with that volume of time? Like I get like scrolling through for like, you know, 20 minutes a day or 30 minutes a day or so. But to spend that much time, does it really make that much sense to, to invest, you know, that much time into said thing? Then the question is, is like, you know, what do you want to make? And like, what are you worth to yourself? And is it, is this thing getting me closer to that goal? If it's not, then why the hell are you doing the thing? So this is a very logical way, maybe another video, like I'm just very based on logic right now, currently watching this video. It was maybe just some of the conversations I had before this. And I just wanted to shoot this real quick for you, which is, are you gonna let social media dictate your life? If it's not really giving you an ROI or you don't have a vision of this roi, of this thing? Because I get it. It's one thing if it's like, okay, three months, six months you know, from now, you know, I plan on seeing an roi. And right now it's an investment into the future. But then the question is, is are we heading towards that, or am I just mindlessly wasting all of this amount of time? And if you have procrastination as an issue, if you have. If you just doom scroll all day and you just like habitually do that, and, you know, you constantly keep getting to that and you have a tough time with productivity, drop it in the comments down below. I'll make a future video on something like that because that's a different conversation if it's like an actual emotional, like, trauma response or something like that, and how I was able to overcome that. But quit wasting your time on social media. Quit not making money off of it. And that's what I got. Deuces, my friends. See you in the next one.
